New chapter with the demigods! Hope you guys enjoy. I had to restart the chapter, like, three times, but I think I finally got it. XD
... Huh.
So today I learned something deeply unsettling.
I blocked and shaded this entire drawing in about 90 minutes using: – a Ticonderoga pencil – four Crayola pencils – and my finger for blending
The only reference I used was the original image of the OC I was trying to draw.
When I mentioned this to a friend, he stared at me and went, “You did what?”
Apparently most people… cannot do that.
We ended up going through a bunch of my older work together and I realized that I default to anatomy-first construction, even when I’m drawing soft-bodied plush characters, and that I tend to approach creature anatomy because it’s more expressive.
Which makes sense, because I’ve been drawing monsters since I was nine with the same kind of school pencil while working through Sandra Staple’s Drawing Dragons.
I’ve tried “fancier” art tools before, but I hated them because I couldn’t get the same consistency I’ve spent years building muscle memory for — so I always went back to Ticonderogas.
Which means I didn’t just get lucky.
Which means I accidentally taught myself structural art skills because I wanted to make cool monster characters that wouldn’t snap their own spines if they moved.
Which means this is a process.
Which means I can probably do it again.
Which means—
Oh no.
I’m an artist.

This is the Story Snake Archive — a slow, thoughtful space for storycraft and worldbuilding, somewhere between a lamplit desk and a rainy window. I don’t write your story for you; I help you learn how to build it, with clearer questions, stronger structure, and a kinder process.
If you’d rather have me step into your framework and give your characters breath and movement, I also offer writing commissions.
Mostly, though, this is a place to sit quietly together while stories grow. I’ll be sharing bits of my own projects too — drafts, sketches, and the wobbly in-between stages. (There’s a game I’m slowly honing my skills for; I hope you’ll enjoy watching it take shape.)

some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.
I couldn't remember the word "doorknob" ten minutes ago.

In a world of gods and guardians, it would be expected that some would fall for mortals, and inevitable in such cases that demigods would result. Killer and Cross are two such beings, half god and half mortal. With abilities mortals shouldn't have, but also not quite as durable as full deities, they reside somewhere in the middle, and unfortunately certain people would take advantage of that. Without parents around who would protect them, they must fend for themselves as they run to escape the prison they were trapped in, and this was how they ended up inside a tentacled skeleton's mansion without knowing what they were getting into. While the brothers now must figure out who they can trust, Nightmare and his friends have to discover these two teenagers' past before what or whoever they are running from finds and drags them back into their personal hell. Hopefully these two can warm up to the guardians and gods despite what they've been told...
