I’ve been in constant mourning since I joined this fandom
+Someone asked why he was in a jet, I don’t know too 😭
“don’t you have a hair dryer” does an angel clip its own wings

girl to GIRL one thing they do not tell you about joining the workforce is the women older than you will HAAATE your ass just because you're happy and don't hate everything and don't act like your job is your sole reason for living and baby girl do not let them suck the life out of you
when i was 13 i was on pinterest looking for tumblr whump prompts and now i’m back to use my skillset for evil
here you go, fun medical things you should be writing about
source: me, bitches
also for the love of God this is not any type of real medical advice pls don’t take me serious pls don’t put that on me
leaving a knife in is old news now, what about you have to take the knife out to save their life? airway compromise + blood everywhere + characters arguing about whether or not to remove it
sedated patients experiencing pain cry reflexively. this is so underutilized. no matter who you are, if your body is out of your control and you are still in pain, you will cry. you won’t remember it, probably, but everybody else will
lateral canthotomy. google it because i’m a little coward about eyeballs. but the possibilities. your guy gets hit in the face and now you have to hurt them Worse
actually everything about being hit in the head is underutilized aside from “character hit in the head is now angry all the time.” character hit in the head can’t see in the sunlight. character hit in the head passes out during high stress situations. character hit in the head is told to lay still in a dark room for a week. omg
i don’t think i’ve ever seen real sepsis play out in fiction. youre hot. you’re cold. you’re passing out. undertrained character is running fluids nonstop and your blood pressure isn’t coming up. does your story world have vasopressors? oh you don’t know? neither does your character. now you’ve got fluid in the lungs and still no shot with the blood pressure
oh but your world does have vasopressors!! now you’re alive and you’re healing and you’re losing your hands!
i can’t stop writing characters with tension pneumothorax. send tweet.
sedation delirium. send tweet.
hi also may i introduce my one true love, characters with heart defects who keep pushing themselves a little too hard? characters who are okay, really, promise, they just need a second because their heart is pounding out of their chest. kids who are fine until they can’t breathe for a couple minutes. in-world internal defibrillators. characters whose hands are blue sometimes but really it doesn’t affect them that badly i swear i swear. give me all the cardiac characters. give me so many more cardiac characters. and dammit give me cardiac characters with superpowers that make it worse
do you know leeches are still a thing? yeah, for wound healing? and the hyperbaric chamber where they put you in a room with enough oxygen to start a small explosion and hope it gets enough blood to your wounds that they heal? which they also use for decompression sickness aka the bends aka pockets of bad gases inside your body?
omg omg omg speaking of bad gases nobody on earth is writing about cyanide as much as they could be (hi freddie i’m so sorry iykyk)
yeah ppl write hallucinations a lot but it’s never quite Right. i want less lifelike hallucinations. i want overexposed looming figments of inanimate objects. i want eyes just out of sight where they disappear when you look at them.
do you know why you’re supposed to draw back when injecting topical anesthetics? would you like to find out? would you like to give your perfectly healthy character a heart attack?
and finally i have not ever seen bell’s palsy in fiction. i was the coolest person in the er at two in the morning. i think i cried. i couldn’t blink. i could taste metal and nothing else. i love being told i’m fucked up and they will never know why, and so will your character
i may come back with more later but this is a good starting list right okay very good
I just can't get over how perfectly fitting the name "Nicholas" is for Wolfwood in Trigun. For a priest who dedicates his life to providing for children — a Christian name associated with Nicholas of Myra, famously the patron saint of children.
Perhaps the most widely known story about Saint Nicholas is the one where he gives money to a family with three young girls who were about to be forced into prostitution due to poverty. And I just ... can't help thinking about how Wolfwood also "sold his body", in a sense. Out of need for money, he let the Eye of Michael own him body and soul. To do painful, unethical procedures to him that altered his body permanently. To force him into horrible acts he couldn't say no to, which made him feel sinful, guilty, stained. And, eventually, to even kill him too.
This is a Nicholas for whom the act of protecting and providing for children is deeply personal; he takes care of the Hopeland kids in order to prevent them from having to suffer like he did. And because of the violating effects of that suffering, he is as self-effacing in his role of breadwinner and protector as he is emotionally invested and personally identified with it; in Trigun Maximum he literally thinks to himself "it seems I no longer have the right to hold you" with regards to the Hopeland children, as he sees his hands literally and metaphorically stained with blood.
...on a less depressing note. The name also means "victory of the people" at its Greek origins (nike – victory + laos – people). Which is every bit as beautifully appropriate in its symbolism, I think. Wolfwood's character represents all of humanity's charm and its guilt; its desperation to survive as well as its capacity for self-sacrifice. For love. Wolfwood is Vash's "reason enough to fight", isn't he? And Vash is victorious in his fight for the people of No Man's Land — thinking of that strong and selfless priest up until the very end.
