The truth is out there.
A show that runs for 9 seasons through the glorious 90′s and a smidgen into the millennium must be on to something. If you’ve never heard of the x-files than you must be nowhere near a nineties child (it’s okay we all have our flaws).
Now what more can there be said about such an infamous show...well, it’s great!?
Besides it being bound to the specific genre of sci-fi, it does tend to be not so futuristic as one might think. The great strength of this show relies solely on their amazing casting and the chemistry (not necessarily meant romantically) between the two leads Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) en Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson).
Mulder being the witty (almost a prelude to Horatio crane) of the two, Dana provides a more rational side to the equation. The duo go through tremendous trials and tribulations working side by side on illustrious cases labeled x-files. These files are usually unsolved mysteries who may or may not find their source in the extra-terrestrial. Nine long season of 45 minute episodes that take you into the deep dark secrets of the US government and will most surely leave you paranoid at some points. It plays around with different notions of corruption and views on what could be considered “alien”. Every single time you think you know the truth, you don’t!
I find it truly a masterpiece in writing. The way they manage to string you along for the ride is frustrating but exciting. At every turn your entire believe system can be overturned and friends become enemies as enemies become friends. I have yet to come across a show that could excite me for 9 whole seasons.
In other words start binge-watching if you like aliens, witty comebacks, strong female leads (Gillian Anderson people!!!), guest rolls from now A-listers (Jack black, Seth green, ... ) and a villain that could be a poster boy for cigarette’s.
