Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

where’s the body of christ?
Tucker, the cat behind Lady Normalgirl’s noble eunuch, passed away on Tuesday morning.
From about the time I could talk, I dreamed of having a pet cat — and when I was ten, that dream finally came true. But in all my tiny child dreaming, I don’t think I could have imagined a cat better than Tucker. He’s been my constant companion for the last thirteen years, through all the best and worst bits of my life and as much as I know it’s good he’s no longer in pain, it seems very wrong that I have to do this next worst bit without him.
I’m thankful that we were able to spend so long together (even if it doesn’t feel quite long enough) and I’m so very grateful that over the last year and a bit I was able to share him with all of you. Knowing that he will be remembered so far and wide means more than I can really express. He definitely knew how insanely much I loved him (and I know how much he loved me back), but I’d like to think he knew how much so many of you loved him and how much joy his noble likeness’s comics brought so many people. While I know I will never stop missing him and that my sadness might never truly go away, it will always be a comfort to know my little cat has left behind such a grand legacy of love and happiness.

Anyone who does embroidery accepts that occasionally this hobby comes with stabbing yourself with a needle by accident. I have to wonder how many times Milena has stabbed herself only for Lambert to freak out over the smell of blood while she tries not to laugh about how worried he is because it was a single drop of blood and she can't even see the mark she made anymore because it was so tiny.
Oh, Lambert is much more distressed about minor needle pricks than Milena is. Poor overwrought Wolf.
(Milena eventually tells him about the old human tradition of Kissing It Better. Lambert likes this tradition very much.)
no but i'm still thinking about how much boromir would fucking LOVE the shire
it is beautiful rolling hills just stuffed to the GILLS with hobbits
including BABY HOBBITS
HOBBITS BUT SOMEHOW IMPOSSIBLY EVEN SMALLER
and yeah the adults might be fairly wary, but we see in the first movie that the kids come running immediately to see gandalf in hopes of seeing something magic
and now??? here is LARGE PERSON??? who can play swords and toSS THEM REAL HIGH UP IN THE AIR AND CATCH THEM???
boromir deserved to retire as the grandpa of endless waves of hobbits, and i will cry forever that he never got to live his destiny
weeping on the floor about
the idea of a hobbit mama scolding her faunts not to get too rough with "nice mr. boromir" as this man is exactly where he wants to be being dogpiled by giggly bb hobbits who absolutely "defeated" him in "combat"
warrior hands that have seen so much violence SO gently holding a TEENY TINY baby hobbit he was handed to let a papa hobbit track down his wayward toddler
(boromir fighting back tears because THEY COME THIS SMALL??? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE???? THE BABY FITS IN ONE OF HIS HANDS???) (baby yawns and snuggles their lil cheek against his thumb and this man is nearly brought to his knees)
Official Manager Of Lifting Big Things
boromir accidentally joining a hobbit stitch and bitch club because someone's gammer asked him to carry her yarn for her to the meeting and he didn't know how to leave after he was greeted and handed food and tea
the club is actually fun, and the hobbit grannies respond to his tales of politics and battle with the same sympathetic clucking that they do to rivals stealing recipes, including his hand being patted sympathetically
boromir gets his own special big cup that moves from house to house for meetings so he can get an acceptable amount of tea for gossip time
there is So Much Lap for bb hobbits to claim
the concept of bb hobbits making him a flower crown for the spring festival so he can match everyone but having to adjust it twice because it's the first one they've made so big before
the idea of bb hobbits who heard stories (mostly from pippin and merry) who now yell out "GONDOR >:D" when charging into a playfight (they don't know what a gondor is) (they're not interested in learning)
(five of them are holding up boromir's shield and can't see past it) (they will charge headfirst into a tree) (they will learn nothing from this experience)
boromir having to learn how to do the cat owner shuffle because there are always faunts underfoot (usually trying to catch a lift on his feet because he can step SO high :D)
gandalf being lowkey salty because HE still gets side glances??? but boromir??? is basically seen as everyone's relative who just happens to be very large??? yes he is Big Folk, but above and beyond that, he is hobbit ✊😔
@milady-bugg oh my god great pyrenees boromir
@little---furnace
oh my god cultural misunderstanding of
in gondor: constantly at war, awareness of supply use, the polite thing to do is to ask for more if you want it but to always have finished what's on your plate when you're done.
in the shire: with hobbit appetites, a fully empty plate means a guest needs more. no one wastes a bunch (leavings will be fed to the pigs), but good manners to show you've had enough involves leaving just a bit to show you were well-satisfied and completely full. an empty plate means you need more to fill up the corners.
so boromir is trying to be done, but the hobbits just keep putting more on his plate, and it turns into a feedback loop of politeness that ends with boromir eating more than he ever has and still being stuck at this tea party two hours past when he first tried to leave.
the comedy of this poor man trying SO hard to eat fast enough that he can put his plate down and escape versus hobbit granny watching him like a hawk with serving tongs in one hand and a tray of mini quiche in another.
At least five people have sent or tagged me in this post and I DON'T KNOW WHY
TIL that sandhill cranes love babies so much, they will even adopt them across species - often enough that it isA Thing.
And I had this sudden vision of the crane witchers realizing that they are pretty good at raising their chicks actually. They need to be emotional invested, but when they are its over. They will raise their weird child, and they will raise them good!
Awwwww!
...Now I am imagining Cranes just coming home with so many orphans. So many. Where are we going to put all these orphans. Are you sure this one is an orphan? That one has loving parents! Put them back!
I discovered horses can have what's called bonnets that are just thin cloth that covers their ears to protect them from flies the same way you cover their eyes.
I see they can be in different colors and the part that goes over the horse forehead can have symbols.
As Geralt goes on progress would the horses have each school symbol on the bonnet to show that it is a Witcher horse, what school that horse belongs to, a way of showing off "wealth" and of course keeping the horses ears safe?
It doesn't hurt the horse of limit their hearing or movement and i just loved the idea of Roach having one that has a fish instead of a wolves head because she obviously is the most special horse and Geralt is a horse girl.
Awww, Roach in a bonnet with a little fish embroidered on it!
Everyone they visit will be so confused that the Warlord's mare has a fish emblem, not, y'know, a wolf.
I missed these two
they look. so goddamn soft
like they’re just resting in a little area, just barely big enough for the two of them. They probably decided to take a break from walking to whatever town they’re headed to, it’s the beginning of fall. The ground isn’t too hard, or dry, so they can sit comfortably (or nap, in geralt’s case)
Geralt doesn’t really need to nap, but he knows that there’s no monsters nearby and that he can trust Dandelion to alert him if need be. Dandelion saw how stiffly Geralt was sitting and encouraged him to lie down, the horses are fine, they all can afford a bit of a rest.
Dandelion has, of course, been working on a song for a couple of weeks now. The rhythmic, lulling strumming helps Geralt fall from an easy meditation into a light doze.
Maybe he and Dandelion haven’t been traveling together for very long, a few years at most. Still longer than Geralt has ever traveled with anyone in the past.
After a few minutes, Dandelion hears Geralt’s soft snores. Maybe this is a first, for them. Maybe Geralt hadn’t trusted Dandelion enough to let himself fall asleep with only the bard around. Against his better judgement, Dandelion feels his affection for Geralt making a him for itself in his heart. He leans over, just a bit, as quietly as he can manage to see the witcher’s lovely, loose expression.
He keeps careful track of time, and begins to set up camp, letting Geralt sleep as long as possible.
I wrote flash fic! Boundless and Bare, in which Geralt accidentally ends up somewhere very far from home.
I wrote flash fic! The Audience That Matters, in which Jaskier saves Oxenfurt from a dragon.
Dearest Inex,
I'm on my nth reread of your wonderful Accidental Warlord AU and wanted to ask if you have any plans to delve deeper into the Wolflaw, how it's received by the people and how it changed/changes the society and culture of the continent. I know you already touched upon this a bit in the fic with Alderman Gustaw (Lady Lucja in charge!) and some of the big things like non-humans having equal rights come up several times, but I was wondering about the more bureaucratic side. Things like electing aldermen or inheritance and divorce laws, especially for peasant women! I assume the Witchers didn't change *all* the laws since they had neither the training nor the people to idk, rework an entire country's system of landownership. Presumably a lot was simply adjusting existing laws by making it so they apply to everyone, not just wealthy men, but while they talk about this in terms of nobles/peasants I don't think there was any mention specifically on whether women are equal to men under the new laws. Based on 'why wouldn't Lady Lucja be in charge and why tf would she need to marry' I'm kind of assuming they are, but it can't have gone over well everywhere when, say, a peasant's eldest daughter suddenly has more legal claim to the family farm than her brother. And if witchers are acting as judges due to being able to tell if someone's lying...well, it's going to get harder to claim a kid isn't yours, so how about some child support?? Can we get some insights for the future historians studying the evolution of women's rights during the reign of King Gerald the First, also known as the Silver Age? :D (The Golden Age of course being the reign of Empress Cirilla)
(My personal headcanon is that the Witchers based a lot of the Wolflaw on Skelliger laws, which I imagine as a comparatively equitable viking-ish society. Skelliger women are definitely allowed to divorce)
I don't know how deeply I'm going to delve into the bureaucratic details, honestly. But since Geralt sees no reason daughters shouldn't inherit, there may well be a trend towards more evenhanded primogeniture at the very least.
Basing the laws on those of Skellige is a fascinating idea. They may also pull from Zerrikania.
I also love the Silver Age for Geralt's reign. He'd be so discombobulated.
