Ultron and the MCU
TL;DR - I enjoyed the movie and then ranted for 30 minutes about the MCU.
So I just finished Age of Ultron. If you are fan of the marvel movies the simply review is go see it. It was highly enjoyable, had its wit, comedy, drama, romance, action and everything in between. Everything you have come to expect from from Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon.
As it stands right now I really can't even find plot holes in choices or actions in the story line or characters. I'm sure people will be able to pick every frame apart in the weeks and months to come to find something that was wrong, but on first viewing I simply can't. But I do have an issue with the Marvel Universe as a whole.
I'm not one to drown myself in previews and trailers, I do not like digging through forums to attempt to find the next leaked photo or even watching audio cut B-rolls that have been released by the studio. I enjoy seeing the movies with a small amount of knowledge such as the premise, a few of the actors behind the characters and whatever basic backstory of the characters I have from the comics. I do not expect the character on screen to fit into the small box my mind has crafted for them since they are not my characters, but I do enjoy seeing where someone else can bring these characters.
That being said, we know that a new Captain America is in the works, A 2 part avenger movie, doctor strange, Gaurdians 2, thor 3, black panther, captain marvel, inhumans, etc etc etc ETC!
The list grows and grows and this is not a bad thing. The bad part (and if you have made it this far into the rant it's honestly what you have been waiting for) is that we know these movies are coming, which means that the world is not ending, certain people have to survive, regardless of if they get shot, blown up, fuck they could be atomized and there would be a way to bring them back simply because the future is partially known. Simply going into the movie theater with the knowledge that the movies are even being thought about means that you know the outcome of the current movie. I whole heartedly believe that the journey is what matters, but there need to be some surprises along the way.
I left the theater and started analyzing why this epic movie simply didn't shake me to the core like it should have and the reason was that I knew most, if not all of the cast were going to survive regardless of the events that took place. Yes, you put them impossible situations that they should not have any way out of and you watch it unfold. But knowing that the next half of a decade is currently planned out for the most part pulls away from the story right in front of us.
It's hard to find a balance between story and media hype. Currently the hype had already begun to drown out the story.
Sorry for the long rant, the run on sentences, grammatical and spelling errors. It's hard to unbreak a dam.
