Against the standard norm, silence didn't come along with the night in the atelier. In fact, long after the sun had set, chatter, laughter and sometimes bickering could still be heard throughout the place.
As much as he criticized Qifrey for his decisions regarding more students, Olruggio had to admit that he, too, grew accustomed to the girls' presences and their little demands â even the silliest of them. While it bothered him during their first nights at the atelier, he could barely be bothered by the noise that persisted through the night now.
Olruggio rolled onto his side, tiredness slowly but steadily sweeping him into slumber. His eyelids grew heavier by the second and he sighed, arms and legs relaxed as he pressed his head into his pillow. Today had been hectic â or productive, as Qifrey would tell his students â and this felt like a much needed rest.
Or so he thought.
Before Olruggio could doze off, he heard his bedroom door creak. The sound was gentle, unlike when the girls tiptoed their way inside or when someone slammed it open in an emergency. Olruggio sat up and looked at its source, his eyes only half open as he tried to recognize the figure in the dim light.
"Qifrey?"
"Olly?" The witch answered, not greeting him, but seemingly just as confused. Qifrey looked around the place and chuckled. "It seems⌠this is not my room," Qifrey said, holding a finger up to scratch at his cheek.
"It's not, indeed," Olruggio mumbled, his tone a tad lower than usual. "Do you need something? Is there a problem?"
"Oh, no! Not at all!" Qifrey quickly waved his hands in front of his chest, as if to dismiss the eerie options. "The girls just headed to their beds and I thought of doing the same."
Olruggio frowned, that explanation gave him more questions than answers. "Is that so?" He continued, looking at Qifrey from head to toe. He didn't look ready for bed, Olruggio thought. "And how did you end up in my room?"
Qifrey smiled and let silence linger for a second too long. The witch tilted his head slightly and held his hands behind his back. "I guess my body just moved on its own. You could say I'm more used to this path than the one to my own room. Weird, isn't it?"
He couldn't argue back to that and Qifrey knew it too. Olruggio groaned, already flustered just by the request implied in that comment. He should've known better than leaving his door unlocked. "Tsk, fine," he huffed, "I'll pretend I believe you."
"You're too kind, Olly," Qifrey mused, "but I can swear this is the most honest I can be with you."
"You're being too loud," Olruggio retorted as he laid his head back into his pillow, but a little more to the corner this time to make room for the other man. "Aren't you worried the chatter will wake the girls up?"
"They are probably having their own right now, we'll be fine."
Despite the lack of an invitation, Qifrey made his way to Olruggio's side. He shed himself of anything that could disrupt his rest and promptly claimed the space next to the other man as his.
"Thank you," Qifrey hummed, his voice making Olruggio shiver.
"G-go to sleep, Qifrey," Olruggio coughed to hide the tremble in his voice, though he knew Qifrey would still be able to read through him. He turned on his back on Qifrey and pressed his face into their shared pillow. "How are you going to lead your apprentices if you can't find the way to your own bed?"
"I suppose you're right," Qifrey giggled. "I just⌠miss spending the night with you like this."
"Mhm."
"Pfft⌠Are you sleeping already?"
"Hm."
He wished he was. Olruggio felt like his heart was going to break through his bones with how hard it beat. Their relationship had warmer days, for sure, but neither of them had ever let go of the feelings for each other â duty just happened to demand more from them than their love did.
Despite all the time and trouble they went through, for example, Qifrey managed to get Olruggio feeling shy, giddy like a young apprentice after their first successful spell.
"Olly ~" Qifrey purred, his hand slowly sliding through the curve of Olruggio's waist and then over his stomach. He pressed his face into the other's back as he hugged him, nuzzling the tip of his nose against the cloth of Olruggio's shirt. "Won't you hold me back? I feel cold."
"Use the snugstone if you're cold," he hissed, but his words came out softer than he wanted. Olruggio felt his skin prickle with goosebumps, a shiver running over his tense body as Qifrey held him oh-so-tenderly tight.
However, even when Qifrey could perfectly see the truth under that attempt of an act, he still wanted to hear it, to have his desired answer explicitly stated out loud. His hands, that were resting still until now, moved again â gentler, but with more intent this time. His fingers wiggled slowly, just enough to alarm his partner. "Don't be this harsh on me, please," Qifrey cooed, "you're the only one I can rely on for support. Please?"
"Q-Qifrey!" Olruggio coughed, sucking in his stomach as he tried to avoid Qifrey's hand. His lips trembled and were forcefully curled into a panicked smile, the ticklish feeling quickly spreading through his body like a wildfire. Before he knew it, Olruggio tugged at Qifrey's wrists and tried to push the offending hands away. "S-stop it, this is nohot the tihimeâ agh, Qihifrey!"
"Please, Olly," Qifrey whined, leaning closer to rest his chin on top of Olruggio's shoulder. He dug at the other man's stomach with both hands, tickling him the best he could without letting Olruggio go out of his embrace. "Don't be difficult now, it's so rare we get to spend the night together ~"
"Y-yohohou're the dihifficult one! S-stohop tihihickling me!"
"Only if you hug me back," Qifrey pouted, but barely bothered in hiding the playful giggle that followed along with his words. He moved his hands before Olruggio could start getting used to the feeling and prodded at the dip of his waist, tickling the soft spots just above his hipbones. "You're going to startle the girls like this."
Olruggio groaned, he could barely squirm or flail his limbs without taking the risk of hitting Qifrey once or twice â this was so unfair! "T-thehen stohohop it, you mahadman!" He insisted, hoping to appeal to Qifrey's reason somehow.
"You can keep making a fuss," Qifrey teased, pinching one of Olruggio's hips, "or be a nice partner, Olly. I've already made up my mind, it's up to you to decide how we spend the night now."
"I d-dohohon'tâ aHAh, f-fihihine! I s-said 'fihine'! J-just stohop it!"
Despite how clear Olruggio's answer was, Qifrey still took his sweet time before finally stopping. His hands remained in place and poised in a way that had Olruggio tensing up with anticipation. "Ah, you mean it? I'm glad to hear it."
"L-let me go, Qifrey."
"Of course," Qifrey said and chuckled at how fast Olruggio moved, probably scared he would change his terms and start tickling him again.
With no more complaints, Olruggio turned back around and obliged to Qifrey's requests. They wrapped their arms around each other, their bodies impossibly close. Qifrey could feel Olruggio's heat, scent and presence all around him â now this would help him rest, he thought.
"Good night, Olly," he muttered, burying his face into the crook of the other's neck, "and thank you."

So far, it seems Lahai-Roi has been a rather exciting adventure. Then again, any adventure would be exciting when your first introduction to the new land is being hit by a chick on a motorcycle. Not that it hurt Rover, by any means, but it certainly was an interesting opening to the adventure for him.
However, after the latest encounter, fighting the Voidworm that had seemingly been corrupted by Aleph-1, Rover had been rather exhausted⌠Luckily, Lynae was there to distract the worm so Rover could take care of the protective barriers⌠but his frequency had still been drained pretty harshly, and after everything, he still had to push himself to pull the finishing blow to the Voidworm.
Lynae, luckily, was mostly protected by the motorbikeâs protective forcefield, and only had a few minor bruises and scratches, which N.A.N.A. had tended to in the meantime. Rover, however, having already been previously drained of some of his frequency, was rather exhausted after all of it, and found himself practically falling asleep as soon as his sore body hit the medical cot.
After a long while, Rover woke up to the faint hum and buzz of various equipment and lighting, which had been dimmed due to it being late. As soon as Rover stirred, there was a soft rustling of fabric in the corner. With a soft hum, Dr. Herssen stood up and stepped in, his eyes widening softly as he saw Rover awake, before giving a soft smile.
âAh, youâre awake, Rover⌠Did you sleep well?â Luuk asked, pulling up his tablet and checking the information on there once again. âN.A.N.A. and I decided to let you rest and sleep after checking that your vitals were stable. You werenât in any danger, you were merely overexhausted. However, upon the shift ending, I simply decided to stay behind and let you rest here, so we didnât have to wake you.â
Rover winced slightly as he tried to sit up, to which Luuk softly placed a hand atop his chest to give him a soft push back onto the bed.
âAhâ Canât have you doing that⌠You may not have sustained any major injuries, but you still exerted a good portion of your energy. Your frequencies are still recovering⌠Plus,â He added, a teasing grin on his face, âyou havenât had a proper check-up yet since you started your new life here at Startorch Academy.â
He had a bit of a teasing grin to his expression. Clearly, he was being more playful than anything, trying to add at least some sort of normalcy to the situation.
âWhat about the Voidworm? The Academy, the barriersâ Lynaeâ!â Rover raised an eyebrow, thinking there were bigger things to tend toâ but Luuk simply chuckled in response.
âRelax,â he spoke. âLynae had her expulsion lifted since she helped you fight off the Voidworm. Sheâs back in her dorm now. Sheâll need to retake the entry exams, but sheâs a bright girl. Sheâll surely have no issue getting settled back in.â Luuk stepped to the side of the medical bed Rover was laid in, before grabbing a stethoscope, placing in the earpieces as he helped Rover sit upright.
âNow, take some deep, steady breathsâŚâ He gently instructed, as he placed the stethoscope at Roverâs chest, sliding it and placing it in different areas to try to listen for the heartbeat.
Rover felt a bit oddâ not negatively, by any means, just⌠Flustered. Luukâs touch felt soft, almost intimate, as he slid the stethoscope over his chest. Rover kept his breath as steady as he could, but Luuk still chuckled slightly.
âYour heart rate seems just a tiny bit elevated. Are you still recovering? Or is there something else you want to address~?â
Rover felt his breath catch ever so slightly. Of course Luuk would tease him about this. He already knew he had some sort of past with Luuk before coming to Lahai-Roi, and he knew that even if he didnât remember it entirely, they had definitely beenâŚ. Close.
âAhâ Itâs nothing. Just a bit distracted, is aâ allâ Ah, heyââ
He felt the stethoscope press to his back, the cold metal placed against his tight turtleneck. His jacket was folded beside him, something Luuk had likely helped him take off before he settled into sleep, so that heâd be more comfortable.
Luuk still simply chuckled, though there was a tiny bit of a grin on his face. âApologies. Iâll try to let you know before I move anything.â
However, Rover wasnât really paying attention. He felt the stethoscope slide against his back, seemingly still checking for any abnormalities. It sent a slight shiver up his spine, which Luuk had definitely noticed, even if he pretended not to.
Rover couldnât stop himself from shuddering, though. The light sensation of the stethoscope moving against his back, placing down, only to move again made his knee twitch slightly, keeping him on edge. The sensation was almost ticklish, in a way, and Luuk definitely seemed to be picking it up, because he seemed to be stopping and chuckling every time the man shivered.
âHm⌠Results are a bitâŚ. inconclusive. I think we better check some reflexesâŚâ He murmured, rolling his stool over towards the foot of the medical bed. âLetâs see if you can feel thisâŚâ He grabbed a pen from the pocket of his coat, slowly tracing it up Roverâs foot through the cotton-like material of his sock, causing Rover to straight up flinch, letting out a quick little yelp. Finally, Luuk grinned, bigger than before.
âOh? Now that was a rather interesting reaction⌠Maybe an indication of nerve damage~ I think we should try againâŚâ
Luuk had that smug look, the one that clearly said he was just toying with Rover at this point. He quickly moved the capped end of the pen up his foot again, as Rover quickly tried to move his leg.
âPffâ Luuk..! C-Come on, quit itâŚâ His face had been a tiny bit red, from his embarrassment. He was the Rover, after all. The man who saved Jinzhou, and Rinascita. He had killed a Threnodian with his own blade⌠and here he was, squirming under the tip of a writing utensilâŚ
âQuite the stubborn patient, you are. Here I thought you had trusted me~â Luuk still had that mischievous grin on his face, the same one he always seemed to be wearing when he was interacting with Rover. âNow, enough of that squirming. This seems to be some sort of medical anomaly⌠HmâŚâ
He pretended to be deep in thought, as one hand gently held Roverâs ankle, while the other hand gently traced the flat end of the pen up and down his foot, finding certain spots and places that seemed to make Rover squirm or yelp just a little moreâŚ
Rover, meanwhile, had broken into those first few bits of laughter. He felt Luukâs hand on his ankle, holding his leg still while the ticklish sensations on his foot spread around, all pinpointed under that damned pen. Luuk was rather thorough with his explorations, too, which only served to make Rover a little more squirmy.
But Luuk simply chuckled, and shook his head. âOh, no,â he started, âI really think this needs to be looked further into⌠This shouldnât seem to cause this bold of a reaction. I think you might have some sort of issue on your hands, that we need to fix⌠Nerve damage, or⌠Maybe youâre overclocking..âHe paused for a moment, before looking at Rover, his red eyes narrowing softly, looking into his very mind, as his lips curled up into that same smirk. âUnless you have some other sort of explanation~?â
Of course, Rover wasnât one to just admit that something was tickling him. So instead of saying anything at all, he simply bit his lip, trying to hold back the soft laughter and giggles that inevitably ended up escaping his lips. Luuk let out a faux sigh, before rolling his eyes.
âYou know, Rover, you donât seem very concerned⌠This could be a serious issue, you know! I think we need to play arouâ I mean, ahem.. I think we need to test a few more things. For safety. We canât risk our Rover pushing too hard and overclocking~â
With that, he playfully flicked the pen at Rover, catching him off guard and earning a slight yelpâ which immediately changed into soft laughter as Luuk began using his hands this time, softly scribbling his fingers up and down Roverâs socked soles.
âAhâ Hahahaha! Aahâ Luukâ! N-
nohohoo~! I- Itâs not thahahat-! You know itâs not- Pfft-!!â
He had tried pulling his foot away again, to which Luuk responded by simply clamping his hand down over the black-haired manâs ankle, letting out a tiny chuckle. Hearing Rover laugh, seeing him smile⌠It had been just like old times. Of course Luuk wouldnât give in now.
âYou still havenât given me any other answers⌠We can never be too sure.â
Rover tried sitting up, but was still a little bit too sore to get up on his own. Hearing the slight groan as the man tried to sit up, Luuk slowed down a little bitâ not stopping entirely, but slowing his tickling down to slow, teasing strokes of his fingertips right up and down his sole.
Rover let out soft fits of whiny laughter, trying to cover his slightly reddened face with the back of his hand. He then tried lightly prying Luukâs hand off of his ankle using his other foot, to which Luuk simply adjusted his positioning, wrapping his arm around both ankles, and using his hand to go for both feet at once.
Rover immediately broke into laughter again, grabbing the edges of the bed to try to give himself something to hold onto, as he tried his best to squirm out of Luukâs hold. However, it seemed that the man was pretty strongâ a lot stronger than just any doctor would have an excuse forâŚ
Of course, that thought never got the chance to cross Roverâs mind, considering he was too busy laughing and trying to kick free. He tossed his head back in light laughter, his hips arching and rolling side to side as he desperately tried to pry away from the doctors hands.
âPlehehehease~! Luukâ! Luuk, itâs nâ nohohot nerve damage~! And Iâm notâ overclocking!â He yelped, his face red, from both embarrassment and from the heat of the moment. âIâ It just tickles~! C-Cut it out~!â
Luuk, being the oh-so-generous doctor he is, chuckled softly, leaning back in the rolling chair and crossing his arms, finally giving Rover a break from the relentless tickling. âOh? Now you offer other solutions? Where was this five minutes ago~?â Luuk leaned down close, his hand placed atop Roverâs leg, right above the knee.
âYou know, some doctors would charge extra for wasting their time and resources like this~ Running unnecessary tests has its prices, you know~â
And with that, Luuk gave that spot a good squeeze, kneading his fingertips into the muscle of his leg. Rover had immediately burst into laughterâ now that Luuk had shed off the playful disguise of this being an âexamination,â there was seemingly a lot less mercy than what had previously been there.
Roverâs hands immediately darted down to try to stop Luuk, letting out his laughter as he tried to pry his hand off of his leg. Luuk, however, doubled down, placing both hands onto his thigh now, and squeezing the muscle there in short, uneven intervals. He avoided giving any sort of rhythm to his touch, not wanting it to be something Rover could settle into, otherwise it would be less effective.
âLâ Luuk~! Ahahâ Nohohohot the thighs~! Plehehehease~!â Rover squealedâ yes, squealed, certainly not a sound anyone expected from the traveling Hero⌠but something Luuk seemed to take great pride in coaxing out.
ââNot the thighs,â you say⌠I donât know, I really think this spot gets quite the reaction⌠If not your thighs, where else would you suggest, hm~?â
Rover once again tried pulling away, still to no avail, as he continued laughing, trying hard to move Luukâs hands off of his thigh. But before he even got a chance to try to answer the sly doctorâs question, he felt the mattress sink under added weight, as Luuk quickly climbed over, his knees planted firmly on either side of Roverâs hips.
All of Luukâs weight was in his knees, and none of it was actually applied directly on Rover⌠After all, he was still recovering, and while Luuk was a little playful, he wasnât going to let the man get hurt. This sympathy didnât stop him from holding down the manâs hands, though, both of Roverâs wrists within one of Luukâs gloved hands, while his other hand gently tipped Roverâs chin, so that they made proper eye contact.
Luuk adored the color deep within the manâs irises. Of course, he was rather biased, given that other colors all appeared dull and gray to him⌠But, then again, that was truly all the more reason to find himself lost in them. They were gorgeous golden orbs, a faint orangish tinge to them, comparable to that of an Amber, or a pool of honeyâŚ
Meanwhile, Rover, staring into the doctor's red gaze, only felt himself getting flustered from being suddenly forced to make direct eye contact, not to mention the new position he had been in, as well as the way he was practically restrained under Luukâs hold.
At no point, however, did Rover genuinely try to push Luuk away. If this were anyone else, heâd have thought this was weird behavior, or feel a tiny bit off. But somehow, with Luuk, this all felt natural. Normal⌠Like two old friends roughhousing after being apart for a little while.
The thought didn't last long, however, as Luuk quickly began pinching and squeezing at Roverâs side and ribs through the fabric of his compression shirt. He immediately broke into laughter once more, turning his head away and trying once again to squirm, his hips arching off the bed, and unintentionally directly into Luuk. This, of course, only added to the flustered blush creeping across Roverâs face, as he desperately tried to stop his squirming and laughter.
Luuk didnât let up, though, and he even began trying to find new spots to go for. Originally starting at his side, he made sure to try out every spot he couldâ from his toned stomach, to his underarms⌠Hell, he even managed to get a nice squeaky laugh out of the man when his fingers quickly darted across the manâs chest. Of course, Luuk would deny how intentional it was, but if he managed to tweak his nipple a couple times just to see Roverâs back arch again? It wouldnât be the end of the world, that was for sure⌠even if Rover would beg to differ.
âPlâ PleheHEhehehase~! Luuk~! Iâ Cahahanât take it~!â He squealed, as he tried to pull his arms down to defend his helpless body, but to seemingly no avail. Eventually, Luuk finally slowed down his touch, still holding Roverâs hands down, but instead of tickling or teasing, his free hand gently placed itself on the side of Roverâs face, his palm against the manâs cheek, just looking into his eyes for a moment.
Rover stared back, his breath hitching for just a moment, as he let out a soft exhale. Not a sigh, no⌠more so just a relieved breath, after allowing himself to be vulnerable with someone for the first time in a while.
âYou still havenât changed, golden boy.â Luuk grinned, as he then ruffled Roverâs hair, before beginning to climb off of the man. Rover, however, used his now free hands to gently grab Luukâs arm, shaking his head lightly.
âYouâ You can put a little more weight down, you knowâŚâ He chuckled softly, referring to how Luuk hadnât put any pressure against Roverâs body in fear of hurting him more than his sore muscles would take. âIâm not going to shatter.â
For a very split second, Luuk hesitated. Luuk never hesitated⌠And after that second was over, he simply nodded, gently adjusting their positioning, draping his body over Rover like an oversized cat. Rovers arms quickly found their way around the manâs body, closing his eyes as he laid on the hospital cot, a faint smile peacefully plastered onto his face.
He was happy, content⌠It just felt right to him. As he cuddled up to the doctor, he couldnât help himself as he slowly began to doze off. They both were, at this point. It was late, and it had been a long dayâŚ
Before they could fall asleep completely, though, Rover had to get one last word in:
hello followers. food for today: I lift the lid off a platter and present this to you. unnamed boyfriends and tickles. tomorrow? ,, same thing . unfortunately im deranged

WC: 2165
At The Breaker Box, you decide that you want to join the talent show and tell jokes. Volt and Eddie are the only two in attendance while youâre practicing. Volt encourages you with some light chuckles, but Eddie claims that the jokes and puns are terrible. Itâs clear that he wants to laugh though, so Volt innocently suggests a way to get his partner laughing that definitely makes some sparks fly.
âWhy did the outlet start a podcast?â
The microphone amplified your voice in the Breaker Box, and you smiled a hopeful smile. Volt was cleaning some glasses behind the bar. Eddie, standing on a ladder, was making some small repairs and adjustments that he insisted on doing himself. The former looked up from his ministrations and smirked.Â
âDo tell, live wire,â Volt chuckled. He didnât even have to look at Eddie to know that there was a high chance he pinched his eyes shut. Your smile brightened.Â
âFor current events!â
Volt chuckled louder and affectionately shook his head. âOf course they did, why else?â
âDonât encourage them, Volt,â Eddie groaned. âThat was terrible.â
You made a show of crossing your arms and giving him a light huff. âTheyâre supposed to be terrible, thatâs part of the charm. Here, let me try another one..â
There was the sound of pages turning as you flipped through your book of self-curated jokes and puns. You muttered to yourself, thinking out loud, searching for one that even Eddie may like. Your finger grazed over one a few times and you visibly perked up.Â
âDid you hear that the Devil is going bald?â
Eddie was hammering a nail into a loose ceiling tile while you spoke. Volt, while putting away the clean glasses, shook his head.Â
âOh dear,â he hummed with faux sympathy. âI canât say that I have.âÂ
A light snort escaped you, though you did your best to keep it together. You hadnât even said the punchline yet.Â
âYeah,â you continued, nodding. âThereâs gonna be hell toupee.â
Okay, that one wasnât too bad. Eddie coughed to conceal his chuckle. He made his way down the ladder, pretending to swat away a cloud of dust.Â
âDamn tiles are dusty again,â he grumbled. There wasnât an ounce of annoyance in his voice though. The corners of his lips were turned upwards ever so slightly. âI thought you said youâd already done a deep clean.â
âI have,â Volt answered. He arched a brow at his partner and hummed with interest. âOh my, is that a smile I see, darling? Did you find that joke humorous?â
âNo,â Eddie grunted. âI told you the tiles are dusty.â
A small smirk played on the taller manâs lips. He reached above his head and swiped one finger along a tile closest to the bar. When he turned it around, it was clean.Â
âWell, would you look at that?â Volt grinned. âNot a speck of dust in sight. Come now, indulge our little spark. You enjoyed that joke.â
You eyed the two of them with a little smile. It tugged at Eddieâs heart strings, or whatever was the electrical equivalent, but he was nothing if not stubborn. Volt could definitely attest to that.
âI did not,â Eddie argued. âLook, Iâm not saying youâre bad at this or anything. Just that the jokes are justâŚI donât know, cheesy? Donât you have any others?â
âI do,â you nodded. âBut none that youâll like apparently. I mean honestly, do you ever find anything funny?â
âI-â
âWell,â Volt interjected with a sudden spark in his eye. His smile turned sharper. Mischievous. âNow that I think about it, live wire, there is something that would put a smile on our loverâs faceâŚâ
âWhat are you-â
Eddie could feel a shift in the room, both literally and figuratively, and then the metaphorical light bulb went off in his head. The way Volt was casually but also knowingly grinning at him helped him have a clearer picture of what he was hinting at.Â
Oh no. No, no, no. Thatâd only happened one time, and Eddie swore he didnât even react.Â
Volt remembers it differently though.Â
âOh no, Volt donât you dare.â
âWhat?â Your head turned from one man to the other, eyes wide with curiosity. âWhatâs he talking about, Eddie?â
âNothing-â
âItâs a charming little detail really,â Volt pressed on, rounding the bar and striding over to you. The clamor of Eddieâs footsteps echoed after his. âWhy, our Eddie is quite ticklish.â
There it was.Â
There was a beat of silence. The lights above hummed as if waiting for something. Then, you squealed.Â
âHe is?âÂ
With a confirming chuckle from the taller of the two, you met Eddie half way. âYou are? Aw, I didnât know that! Thatâs so cute.â
âFirst off, Iâm not cute,â Eddie again grunted, though his cheeks looked rosier compared to a moment ago. âSecond, I donât know what the hell heâs talking about. Iâm not ticklish.â
Volt followed you over to him, laughing softly. âAre you lying again? Mm-mm, that just wonât do. Whatever shall we do, live wire? I will follow your lead.â
âWeeeelll,â you sang sweetly, closing in on your grumpy lover. âIf he really wonât laugh at my jokesâŚâ
You were approaching him from the right, which meant that Volt took the left side. Eddieâs cheeks reddened and backed up even further.
âB-Back off,â he warned. His arms instinctively dropped towards his sides. This only encouraged you. You ran towards him, but you didnât get far.Â
Your foot got caught on one of the floorboards, and you went down with a surprised squeal. You werenât hurt, but it still caused Eddie to hurry toward you with alarm.Â
âOh shit, you okay?â
You groaned from your reclined position on the floor. You landed chest first, butt in the air, but still managed a thumbs-up. âYeah yeah, Iâm fine. My shoe got caught.â
âYeah, wellâŚthatâs what you get,â Eddie, relieved, snorted before he could stop himself. A series of deep chuckles came right after. âTold you to back off.âÂ
Your head snapped up to his. You regarded him with shock before a sudden grin overtook you. âOh, thatâs whatâs funny to you? Get him, Volt!â
Volt was already two steps ahead of you. Literally. He interrupted his partnerâs giggling to gently grab his arms and pull him into his chest.Â
âYou would laugh at our sparkâs stumble? How dare you,â Volt pretended to growl as he tried to bring the man down to the floor with him. Eddie wasnât going down without a fight; there was a mini battle of arms and elbows right in the middle of the bar.Â
âWh-o-a, hey! Let go of me!â Eddie managed to pull out of his grip, but Volt was persistent, and never had his hands off of him for very long. He yelled when Volt used one of his long legs to sweep his own from underneath him, and he kicked as he was guided down on the floor.Â
You would be the one thatâd sway the metaphorical cards in Voltâs favor. After picking yourself up off of the ground, you strolled over to the feuding men with a small smile. âYou know,â you hummed. âYou are struggling a lot for someone who claims that they arenât ticklish.â
âBecause Iâm not,â Eddie retorted, as if that response made perfect sense. He had Voltâs hands in a firm grip, but Volt was using his legs to pin his partnerâs down. He then gathered his hands in one so that he could half-heartedly swat at you as you knelt beside them. âSpark, if you tickle me, Iâm gonna-â
Tap, tap, tap.Â
You curiously poked at the manâs rib cage with your index finger. You kept your touch light, occasionally giving a rib a gentle scritch, and Eddie tensed. He pinched his lips shut and leaned to the side, inadvertently pushing closer into Voltâs chest. He moved to grab your hand, but Volt used the distraction to finally pin his wrists above his head.Â
âGah! Volt!â
âThere we are, much better,â Volt kissed Eddieâs forehead and smirked. You gave him a grateful look and switched to wriggling your fingers into his sides. Eddie squirmed, battling between pulling his wrists free and dodging your ticklish touches, only to lose on both fronts.Â
 âLetâsp-spark..psshtâŚâ
Eddie pinched his lips shut again to trap the incoming snicker. You perked up and giggled lightly.Â
âWhat was that?â
Eddie didnât answer. Instead, he shook his head, a wobbly smile just barely tugging at the corner of his lips. You scritched up his torso, lightly clawing at his ribs before burrowing your fingers into the softness of his armpits. Eddie jolted upwards and tried to pull his arms down, but Volt kept them up.
You looked to Volt for a bit of guidance. âWhereâs he most ticklish?â
âOh no, darling. I canât make it that easy,â he chuckled. He trailed his light kisses down the manâs forehead, to his cheek, and ending at his neck. Each kiss left a ticklish tingle that ran across his skin. Eddieâs shoulders shook with restrained chuckles. âYouâll have to figure it out yourself.â
Fair enough, you thought. You alternated between gently scritching at the hollows of his armpits and circling the area with your fingertips and nails.Â
Eddie couldnât hold it back anymore. Gruff, breathy chuckles escaped him before he could try to reel them back in, and Voltâs ticklish kisses were not helping. He tried to growl in between chuckles, but that just added to the cuteness factor.Â
âF-Faahahahaha! Spahahahahahark!â
You made a big show of gasping and, wanting to chase the sound, you returned to his ribs. You used the pads of your fingers to lightly pinch and knead over the spot. This made Eddie jump and laugh louder.Â
âHmhm, ânot ticklishâ, huh?â You grinned. âI dunno, seems like youâre ticklish to me.â
Volt couldnât help himself. He nuzzled into his partnerâs neck to blow quick, electric raspberries into it. Literal sparks jumped off of his lips. Eddieâs laugh took on a more frantic, giggly note. He swiveled his head from one side to the other, but all Volt had to do was move to the opposite side that he couldnât protect.Â
âHmmm?â Volt hummed against his skin. He took a breath and ducked his head down to blow a raspberry into Eddieâs collarbone. The resulting yelp and harder laughter made him smile. âAm I not allowed to kiss you?â
âNohoht like thahaht!â Eddieâs legs drummed against the floor as he tried to curl in on himself. Volt chuckled and pressed teasing kisses back up the manâs neck. He waited a bit, watching him shiver and jump, before blowing a series of raspberries on his neck that made Eddie swear and howl.Â
For a moment, youâd stopped tickling Eddie and watched the two of them. If there was a way for you to have heart eyes, youâd definitely have them. It was so nice to see them laughing after the power scare not too long ago.Â
Your curious hands found their way to Eddieâs stomach. You clawed over it, keeping your touch light, and Eddie bucked. It was so sudden that youâd almost fallen off of him.Â
âWahahahahahit!â Eddieâs laughter deepened as he squirmed underneath you. âOahahahaha! Nohohohot thehehere!â
Volt looked up from what he was doing, chuckling. âWell done, live wire,â he praised. âHis stomach is definitely one of his more ticklish spots. And, youâre only getting warmer..â
Feeling encouraged, you switched to quick pinches along his tummy, squealing as the man bucked around even more. You steadied yourself by straddling his waist. His usually tucked in shirt had come undone and gave you access to the skin underneath. The moment your fingertips made contact, he threw his head back with laughter.Â
âOHOHOAHAHA! NOHOHOHO!â
âOh my gohosh,â you giggled. âIâm shocked at how sensitive you are.â
Volt snorted. You didnât really mean to make the pun, but there it was, front and center. There was a groan somewhere amidst Eddieâs loud, deep laughter.Â
âSHUHUHT UHUHUP!â
âAh, ah. Manners, Eddie..â He gathered the other manâs wrists in one hand so that he could better join the fray. Sparks danced along his fingertips as he poked and prodded down the manâs torso. Each of his touches delivered a ticklish shock that had Eddie howling. He bucked again, and this time you steadied yourself by holding onto his hips.
Eddie snorted and, ironically, jumped as if he was electrocuted. You curiously kneaded your thumbs into the spot, and Eddieâs deep laughter jumped to hysterics. He bucked and twisted and you had to make more of a concerted effort to not fall off. He laughed silently, especially when Voltâs ticklish shocks found their way to his waist, and that was both of your cues to let up.Â
You slid off of his waist and Volt released his hands. Eddie breathed deeply, still chuckling, and wiped the tears from his eyes.Â
âUgh, both of you suck..â He breathed. He sat up with Voltâs help, who pulled both him and you into his lap. You chuckled.Â
âYou love us,â You blinked up at him with a sweet smile. Eddieâs eyes flicked to you, then Volt, and then he sighed. He was going to get both of you back, especially Volt, but for now?
âYeah. I guess I do.â
(I'm not sure how I feel about the ending cause I definitely rushed it, but I hope you like it.)
Summary: Dororo can't accept the fact that she couldn't introduce Hyakkimaru to the feeling of fun. So she decides to do it in a roundabout way, finally finding his soft spots.
Word Count: 1,3k
The night in the mountains turned out to be cold. The travelers who had found shelter in a run-down hunter's hut were lucky to at least have a roof over their heads and a hearth that Dororo managed to light with some old kindling.
Dororo couldn't fall asleep: the crackling of the fire reminded her of food and made her stomach growl, but without it, it would have been too cold.
She propped up herself on her elbow and looked at Hyakkimaru, who was lying against the wall across from her. Moonlight streamed through the small window, illuminating his pale face. His eyes were open and he was simply lying peacefully on his side, staring into nothingness.
"Big bro?" she called out in a whisper, "are you asleep?"
After a silent pause, Dororo resigned herself to putting off conversation until morning, but Hyakkimaru finally shook his head slightly. Sometimes she didn't understand why it was so hard for him to answer, be it a simple "yes" or "no." It was as if he was doing it on purpose!
"Hey, have you ever thought about how many of those demons are even left?" she asked, staring into the darkness.
Hyakkimaru turned his head slightly in her direction but said nothing.
"I'm just counting," Dororo continued. "If you think about it, each demon is a part of you. You're like a puzzle." She hummed at her own thoughts. "I wonder what you'll feel when you get it all back? When you become an ordinary person? Will you laugh? Cry? Get angry over little things? What will you even do next?"
Dororo didn't expect an answer to her barrage of questions; they were more rhetorical. It was foolish to try and pry a purpose out of someone who knew nothing about the world. Traveling with him, in a way, she felt responsible for showing Hyakkimaru the better side of this world. Even if it rarely worked out.
"Don't know." The answer came like it was cut off with a rough edge.
The girl sighed and sat up, wrapping her arms around her knees. He spoke so little that each word felt precious.
"Oi, Aniki, you know..." after a long pause, she suddenly came to a thought, "it's really unfair that in all these years, you've never really had fun. Do you even know how?"
No answer followed.
Annoying. At moments like this, Dororo wanted to shake some voice into him, but Hyakkimaru probably wouldn't even get an idea why she was shaking him. Somehow she remembered her failed attempt to tickle him. Seemed like the most effective way to get a reaction out of all the ones Dororo knew. But even that hadn't gotten through to him! The thought stuck with her for a while.
"There's no way you don't have a single weak spot. I refuse to believe it," she muttered, crawling closer and closer to him until her hand plopped down onto the side of the oblivious Hyakkimaru.
"You're still a human, after all.. You are, right? All humans are ticklish, I'm sure of it."
The girl kept persistently poking at his sides, grabbing here and there, like a cat chasing skittish mouse. Hyakkimaru clearly didn't mind the touch, but the absence of any reaction showed his confusion. It seemed his body hadn't learned to process this kind of information yet. Dororo scratched her chin and decided to change tactics.
First, she glanced at his feet but quickly waved them off â Hyakkimaru traveled barefoot, so he most likely wouldn't feel anything there. But then her gaze moved higher.
Dororo carefully pushed aside the edge of his well-worn kimono, exposing his slightly bent legs. She touched his knee feather-lightly, checking for any signs of objection. But of course, there was no reaction at all, which only made Dororo more determined.
Her hand slid to the back of his knee. She pressed a little more firmly and began rapidly moving her fingers back and forth over that secluded spot, lightly scratching with her nails.
And then it happened: Hyakkimaru flinched, trying to pull his leg away! Dororo froze, unable to believe her luck. She lifted her head and looked at his face. It was no longer peaceful. Hyakkimaru's eyebrows were slightly furrowed, and his mouth was partly open, as if he was trying to inhale.
"Whoa!" Dororo breathed out, and a spark of excitement lit up in her eyes. "It worked!"
She slipped her fingers under his knees again, this time attacking both hollows. And now Hyakkimaru flinched even harder. His legs reflexively curled up, trying to shield themselves from the strange, unknown sensation. Vibrations spread through his body with each wiggle of her fingers, the muscles in his stomach tensed involuntarily, and goosebumps ran down his spine.
"Do... roro..." His voice came out raspy and uncertain, his expression extremely surprised.
"Aha! Gotcha!" Dororo was on a roll now, tickling her way up from his knees along his whole thigh.
Hyakkimaru tried to sit up, but Dororo wouldn't let him, grabbing his legs and blocking his attempts to roll over or crawl away. His body wouldn't obey. The sensation was too new and foreign for his recently regained nervous system. He knew pain, but this... What the hell was this?
Hyakkimaru opened his mouth to breathe, and suddenly a short, choked sound escaped from his chest.
"Hh... ha..."
It didn't sound like laughter. More like a gasp. But Dororo's eyes widened with delight.
"Finally laughing?!"
Laughter? So this is what she meant? Could laughter really feel like a demon possessing you, leaving you powerless? The corners of his lips trembled under the assault of these unfamiliar electric jolts. Finally, he grabbed Dororo by the wrists.
"S-Stop..." he tried to catch his breath, staring somewhere past the top of Dororo's head. "Strange."
"Strange is good! Still human, hehe. I finally found where your laughter lies," Dororo beamed. "And this means my hands can match big bro's power."
Hyakkimaru lowered his head, looking at the faint aura of Dororo's tiny hands. In his wooden ones, they just felt like soft lumps, but to the patches of his living skin, they brought incredible warmth.
"This is called 'ticklish,'" Dororo didn't miss the chance to teach him, while he spread her fingers apart, studying them like some kind of tool.
Hyakkimaru lifted his face towards her and reached his prosthetic hand toward her head. Dororo squinted, but then felt him scratching her. Hyakkimaru slowly and clumsily moved his fingers through her hair, like he was petting some small animal. Dororo couldn't help but find it endearing.
"Ticklish," Hyakkimaru announced.
"Haha, bro, this is nice!"
"...Nice."
Hyakkimaru was slightly confused, hearing her joyful giggles. Did this mean "ticklish" and "nice" were the same thing?
While the samurai was diligently pondering this new logical connection, Dororo seized the chance and dove her hands toward his stomach, starting to tickle him rapidly there.
"H-hhah... Hahahah!" Hyakkimaru was taken aback and curled up sharply, trying to escape. But this time, his attempts to evade her grasping hands were accompanied by long-awaited laughter.
The feeling was barely tolerable! But still... Dororo's hands weren't something to truly want to run away from. Now it all clicked for him. It was ticklish. And nice.
Hyakkimaru found a way out: he suddenly grabbed Dororo and pulled her close like a human-pillow, effectively immobilizing. The girl squirmed in embarrassment.
"Hey, bro, come on, I get it! Too much for the first time. Let go, I won't tickle you."
"Dororo..."
She froze, as she did every rare time he addressed her.
"You're warm."
Well, that's was good way to refocus. He looked happy, which meant Dororo had finally accomplished her goal. And she couldn't deny that Aniki, in fact, was warm too. Now it would be easier for both of them to fall asleep.
