The Rise of the Black Creative Class

SEGREGATION IN SOCIAL MEDIA
There's an article on AdAge.com today. It's a reminder that even on the "great equalizer" of the internet, you can't be all things to all people. Was written by one of our super fabulous moderators here at Arnold NYC, Ms. Pepper Miller! She just did some great work with us on St. Ives. We love you Pepper!

Pretty wonderful use of animation mapping at the flagship Ralph Lauren store in NYC.
WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST HUMAN MEMORY?
Being about 7 years old in my pink frilly bedroom and staring at a painting of 5 cats that was framed in a decorative gold frame above my antique dresser. I loved cats but I was severely allergic to them.
ONE AD MAN'S TAKE ON BLACK HISTORY MONTH IN ADVERTISING
Back in February of 2000 (that's right, about 11 years ago when certain members of your Planning Pit were a mere 17 years old) Mr. Clifford Franklin had an intiguing opinion perice in AdAge. He was talking about how Black History Month feels like a special "section of the media plan" where blacks can get a little attention.
Quotes to think on from the article: "Major advertisers, aware of the tremendous buying power of African-Americans, continue to ignore building relationships with the African-American consumer beyond token appreciation of our now glorious past."
"The best way to honor Martin Luther King's dream is not to produce an ad with an excerpt from his speech. Honor Dr. King and great African-Americans who participated in the struggle for equality by treating the African-American consumer as you do other consumers. Speak to us as people -- not some group labeled minority. That would be a great salute to Black History Month."
