Congratulations! You're witnessing the debut of Bloodied But Unbowed (aka The Punk Movie) on Tumblr.
BBU is a documentary film originally released in 2010 by Susanne Tabata about Vancouver, Canada's first punk rock scene, which lasted from the summer of 1977 to about 1982.
Though not as famous as their contemporaries in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York or London, the first wave of Vancouver punk made an indelible mark on Canada, the West Coast, and the punk movement itself.
The scene was incredibly diverse and included the thrashing protest songs of D.O.A.,the biting sing-a-long social commentary of the Subhumans and the Young Canadians, the teenage pop anthems of The Pointed Sticks and The Modernettes, and the art-school ramblings of UJ3RK5 (pronounced you jerk) and Wasted Lives--not to mention one of Canada's first all-girl punk bands, The Dishrags.
The film features interviews with numerous musicians, writers, photographers, filmmakers and fans who were active in the scene, as well as the outsiders who crossed their paths; Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys, Henry Rollins and Ron Reyes of Black Flag, Keith Morris of Circle Jerks and OFF!, Penelope Houston of The Avengers, Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses, and award-winning record producer Bob Rock.
Director Susanne Tabata, who experienced the scene for herself back in the day, weaves new interviews together with archival footage, photos and narration by Billy Hopeless (not to mention lots of great music) to tell an extremely intimate and human story of an often overlooked music community.
