It's the Royal Academy of Art Young Artist's Summer Show. One of my favourite exhibitions of the year. Like. Not only are the older kids insanely talented, the younger ones' artist statements will just punch you right in the face.
Okay so I made a list of 30 (well, 29 actually) prompts I am releasing into the wild. The point of this is that at least one of the participants are not having a good time.
It has 30 prompts for November but feel free to write and post whenever, but please add the tag #No one nuts November or #NoonenutsNovember wherever you post. You do not have to @ or credit this blog if you use any of these prompts.

"warm, shallow seas" is one of the most beautiful phrases in paleontology and it's everywhere... these mollusks lived in warm, shallow seas... scientists think that photosynthetic life evolved in warm, shallow seas... in that era the Earth was covered by warm, shallow seas...
I wish I was resting by an antediluvian warm, shallow sea
to anyone in the areas impacted by the wildfire smoke, my #1 biggest piece of advice as someone whos been dealing with wildfire smoke in the NW united states for years, is build yourself a Corsi-Rosenthal Cube
they perform as well as expensive HEPA air cleaners, and are comparatively VERY inexpensive. all you need is a box fan, 4 air filters, a piece of cardboard, and some duct tape!!!!
i think it took us maybe a half hour to put ours together, if that, and we replace the filters every 3 months. it's really made a HUGE difference, both when the air quality is bad, but also with our allergies
Also just a handy, DIY air filter in general, if a bit bulky. For a less bulky and cheaper (but also less effective) solution, you can simply tape one filter to the fan, cut a shroud if you'd like.
just FYI, this is quite literally what the climate scientists at my work who specialized in wildfire smoke impacts recommend. it works great, it's cheap to make, and it will make a noticeable impact on your air quality.
i have asthma & keep one of these running in my room perpetually. after I set it up the difference in my sleep quality was pretty much night and day. Dont waste your time on proprietary air filters; SIMPLY bust out the duct tape
"Artist, Catherine Opie: My name is Catherine Opie. I'm an artist who lives in Los Angeles, California.
Dyke is a portrait of my friend Steakhouse, who's a filmmaker. She had tattooed âDYKEâ on the back of her neck in 1992. I thought it was like one of the bravest acts that I had seen. Now everybody is tattooed and pierced. But this was what my community was doing at the time period in which I was documenting. Those are markers of queer culture and our ability to to identify each other, as well as to put out in the world a different vision of our bodies.
This is the first time that I chose a fabric background and that was definitely in relationship to a history of painting. Those portraits of the royals had artifacts to describe what the royals did. The artifact is worn on the body here, not within the things surrounding the portrait, but it's actually on the body. Dyke is the subject. Dyke is the title.
Skin is really important. That's why the detail. I want you to feel it. I want the presence. For me, that work is really political. It was about creating visibility."
Yes but none of it is processed yet because of budget cuts that havenât been addressed for over a decade. So thereâs no finding aid, but youâre still supposed to have it all digitized and on a very user friendly website. Good luck!! đ
Hi, its me. The warmest creature in the world. I love you. Im the warmest creature in the world and I love you so much and I need to be in your lap right now. Yes, I know about the heat wave. That's okay though because I was already the warmest creature in the world so I don't mind. I love you and you need to let me sleep in your lap right now. I'm soooo warm and I love you sooo much. If you say no you'll be saying no to a thing that love you. Let me sleep in your lap. When I fall asleep I get warmer. I love you
Iâm seeing a lot of people saying this post changed their brain chemistry, and as a neuroscientist I wanted to say yes!!! Yes it does!
Wanting something requires dopamine signaling, but liking something doesnât.
If you have a mental illness/disorder that affects dopamine, you might feel that you donât want to do the things that you like. You do still like them. You will appreciate having done them.
Let your likes guide you.
(If you want to read more, hereâs one experimental paper about it. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5171207/ This theory called the incentive-sensitization theory was originally created to explain behaviors in addiction but can be applied elsewhere as well)
Rewards are both âlikedâ and âwantedâ, and those two words seem almost interchangeable. However, the brain circuitry that mediates the psych
