“Ya sure know how to flatter me, love.”
“The best, I know.”
“Aye, but I’m yer big oaf.”
“I think that’s the smartest thing I’ve heard you say yet, husband.”
@thequeenofiron
“Yer proud of me?!”
“I said no such thing, you big oaf.”
remember that time dain left his beloved home in the iron hills to do his duty and take over as king under the mountain after his cousins died and he was a wise and fair and wonderful king for almost 80 years
He smiled brightly at her and couldn’t resist going back to her to press a firm kiss upon her brow. He stared almost dreaminly into her eyes as he stroked her cheek with his thumb. “Every living soul shall know of our joy. Our child will be strong and wonderful as you are, my dear.”
Again, he lingered longer than he should’ve before moving back to the door. “Thorin will have no excuse not to visit if we named our child after him.” He was definitely an admirer of his cousin, but it was the same the other way around. Sometimes, it was like those two were brothers. It had been that way since he vowed to fill the brother position when Thorin lost Frerin.
After a moment of just staring at her, did he finally depart from her. He would not falter in his training to anyone today, he rarely did anyways. Today, he would be a force to be reckoned with, for he was filled with overwhelming emotions.
“I have no doubt you’ll scream it on the highest hill of our home.”
She watched him go, eyes lingering on the door even after he left. The entire place would know by noon, she was sure. Dain was the kind of dwarf to keep such news to himself. If she knew him as well as she thought, he’d tell the help as he passed him.
Finishing dressing, she left her hair plan. The only braid she had in her hair now was her marriage braid that Dain did every morning. Wrapping herself in a cloak, she made her way towards the training grounds.
Dain was there and already in the mist of a fight. Finding a good spot, she watched with sharp eyes, wishing she could join in this days sparring.
He frowned at that a bit as but then captured her in another round of kisses. Really, all he wanted to do was stay with her and be alone with his love. Still, he never missed his training, especially since the day they were wedded. He knew his wife did enjoy watching him train, it took him some time to figure that out. There had to be a reason Solveig was so adamant about him training regularly.
“Can I tell everyone after?” He asked if he were a giddy child with a secret he could not contain. “I want to send word to my cousin right away.” Dáin lingered with her for a moment longer, trying to prolong their time together before he finally started to prep himself to go to training. All in his mind, he thought of everyone’s reactions to their news of a child. He wished he could tell Thorin is person, knowing his dear cousin would have the best reaction to his news.
“Thorin.” He stated as he paused at the door. “Would you consider the name Thorin if we have a son?” It didn’t matter if it were a daughter or son to Dáin, but he wasn’t as good at naming lasses as his wife probably was.
His frown was adorable, but she’d never tell him that. Rubbing the slight bump on her stomach, she watched him closely. Still in her night clothes, she figured she’d better get dressed. She couldn’t wonder about in just Dain’s shirt, after all.
“Before, after, while you’re winning - tell who you wish, when you wish.”
Tilting her head back as she picked out a dress for the day, she gave a snort.
“I had the same thought when I was told. Thorin II is a perfect name, my love.”
Solveig held the same love and respect for Thorin as her husband did. A way to honor their King and great friend. She herself would love to tell Thorin in person, but he had left the Iron Hills just a month before - he wouldn’t be back for a few more months or even years.
A letter, though, might get him here by the time the child is born.
It never even crossed her mind that they may have a girl.
Dáin has to take a deep breath through his nose and cover his face for a moment, but his other hand still remained on her stomach. A baby! Their baby! Their own child. He couldn’t believe it, for it was something he always desired since he came of age, but never knew if he’d have the time for a child. Now that he had been lord of the Ironhills for some years, the thought of raising a dwarfling was more a plausible goal.
He removed his hand and was grinning his like a fool as he took his wife’s face in his hands and kissed her for a long while. When he broke away he pressed his forehead to her’s and gave a delighted laugh.
“I love you.” Dáin huffed out as his hands went back down to rest upon her stomach, his forehead still pressed to Solveig’s. “I love you and our child. I love you so much.” He kept repeating those words like some lovesick fool.
“You fool.”
Her hands reached up to tangle into his hair, letting him drag her into as many kisses as he wished. It was a wonderful day, for she knew he would tell any who would listen. She could image him writing to his cousin and sharing the news.
“I love you as well, you great oaf.”
She did, greatly. More than thought she could love him. But she did and she couldn’t image another being the father to any children she bore. One of her thumbs crossed over his hair and ear to rub on his rough cheek.
“Very, very much. But if you linger here, you’ll miss your training.”
@thequeenofiron
“W-what?” Dáin stammered before knocking over a shelving in their quarters, a clatter of books and other items hitting the floor. Not caring for the things he knocked over his is surprise, he took a few quick strides over to his wife and clasped both of her hands within his own.
“Y-you’re?” He trailed off, unable to form a proper sentence. “You’re not bluffing, right? I mean, why would you bluff. I-” The dwarven lord searched Solveig’s eyes. “You are with child? Truly?”
His eyes had brightened, greatly so. Solveig never doubted he would want a child - he was like one himself, most days. She pulled him closer, a sly smile on her face.
“You speak as if I would bluff, my Lord. I’m almost offended.”
Lifting one of her hands from his, she placed it on her stomach.
“But to answer your question, yes, I am.”
once upon a wardrobe appreciation: 56/??
Dain is not cooperating with me tonight so have this sketch for now. I’ll make a serious one later.
Dain with baby Thorin Stonehelm for determamfidd ‘s birthday!
Happy Birthday again and best of wishes~ I wanted to draw you something more detailed and nice but sadly I’ve got a nasty eye infection and I can’t look at the screen for too long so this is all I could manage ;A;
I hope you had a wonderful time and may your year be amazing! <
casual reminder to stop dismissing the women of middle-earth
A bashful look and an embarrassed chuckle came from Dain after he was given the “kiss.” Of course, he should always know better. “It’s a good thing I have you to remind me of my faults. To be honest, I’m not certain I’d survive without your wisdom.” He laughed again, but this time a bit more happily.
The young lord gently took the hand that had pressed against his lips a moment ago. He brushed his lips over her fingers and then placed a kiss to her palm. As he turned her hand to brush a ghost of a kiss against her knuckles, he met Solveig’s gaze. “I think you’ll have to constantly remind me I’m a grown dwarf for the rest of my days.”
"Hmmm, I'm surprised you made it this far without me, my Lord." She paused a moment, trying to shake the heat from her cheeks at his own kiss. Mentally scolding herself, she flicked his nose lightly. But she couldn't help her slight smile, letting her hand lay gently on his.
"That shouldn't be too hard." Her tone lowered, a wink attached to her words as she pulled away. Her laid themselves on her hips, titling her head.
"It would have been a lot more romantic if you de-thorned the rose before you put it in your mouth…" { thequeenofiron }
VALENTINE’S INSPIRED MEMES (x)
"Aye, but you take ridiculous risks for love." Of course he forgotten to have the roses de-thorned, but Dain tried to play it off. The young lord should’ve read those elvish romance novels more closely. "Sorry, m’love." He a sheepish grin as he licked his cut lips of the blood.
Her eyes rolled, reaching up to press her lips against three of her fingers. Moving closer to him, she put them to his lips. "There, a kiss to make it up. Not a full kiss because honestly, you're a full grown dwarf. You should know better." She snorted.
Best representation of Dáin II Ironfoot’s relationship with his wife, Solveig.
