Book Analysis Final Blog Post
The two books, Twitterville, and Media Convergence both have their differences and similarities and both play a big role in helping to understand what's behind the meaning of social media and how we can use it to our personal benefit. The two books worked out better than I had expect due to the fact that the book Media Convergence talked about the uprising and advances in social media today as opposed to social media in the 20th century and then twitterville mainly focused on the social networking site Twitter and how we can use it to our benefit.
The first book, Media Convergence: Networked Digital Media and Everyday Life, started off a little slow which didn't keep my attention at first but as I continued reading, I found it to be very truthful and interesting. It mainly focused on the difference between social media in the 20th century to social media in the 21st century, which is something we have discussed throughout the semester. I thought it was very interesting how it compared social media because it made me look back to when social media wasn't as big and how it was used for different purposes as opposed to how useful it can be in today's society. It discribed how privacy has changed due to the fact that now anyone can become a part of a social network and because so many people are on it today, privacy has decreased and more and more people are available to view your private or public information.
The second book entitled Twitterville: How Businesses Can Thrive in the New Global Neighborhoods,
focused differently on Twitter and the business aspect of it. The author, Shel Israel described why businesses should all adopt twitter due to it being, fast, easy and inexpensive, which I agree, because I use twitter almost everyday. Israel described twitter as a small town and explained how twitter is the closet form we have of face to face interaction without actually being face-to-face. It allows users to carry out conversations as they would in real life. I found this book to be very usefull and true. For the most part i agreed with the author and think that her claims were true and businesses can benefit if they use twitter correctly.
I found both these books to be very similar and different at the same time. They were similar because one talked about the up roaring of social media, and twitter is a perfect example of this. Twitter is being used by companies to promote their businesses and to attract consumers and I believe this is the best way to do so because its fast and inexpensive. The books differed because Media Convergence focused on the changes in social media and how it is today, while Twitterville talked more about the business aspects of social media and how twitter can help business. Overall i was satisfied with my books and would recommend them to others.
My analysis provides readers with an in depth analysis on how each of these books relate to social media and our lives. It shows how social media has changed in our everyday lives and how far social media has come throughout the years. It shows how to effectively use social media, especially in businesses to thrive when the economy is tough and how users are able to do that. It answer's the questions, how far have we come in social media? And how can we effectively use it to our advantage?
