On the importance of being who you are.

Well, I’ve had a busy week, somewhat emotionally draining, actually, but also important. Spending the week with some of my distant family has been kind of hard because they don’t exactly approve of my sexuality, but I’ve learned to look past the bad and only see the good. My sexuality is my sexuality, it’s personal, it’s not something that should affect anyone else but me and whomever mutually agrees in pursuing a relationship with me.

I guess I just wanted to say that coming out is hard, and sometimes, you feel like the world is against you, but it does get easier, and there will always be people who love you no matter what. My family does care about me, and I know they’re just concerned for me, but I just kindly told them that we shouldn’t discuss it anymore and, because they love me, they dropped it. Sometimes that’s the best you can hope for!

This goes for more than just sexuality too. There are always going to be things about you that other people don’t agree with, but you needn’t be ashamed of them, you just need to know how to react and help people see past them. Come out with those things too, don’t pretend that they’re some scary, forbidden secret; because then they’ll only give you anxiety. Even if people react negatively to whatever it is, remember that it isn’t the only thing that makes you who you are! Believe it or not, there’s always going to be something people like about you too. ;)
