Love isn’t safe. And whoever you love will hurt you. It’s part of the human experience. No-one is perfect … people make mistakes. The secret is to focus on what they do right and decide what quirks you can live with.
Kristin Billerbeck (via purplebuddhaquotes)
I MEAN THAT’S ESSENTIALLY IT
Soulmates are not your ~other half~, that’s just nonsense. You are a whole person already, not half a person. A soulmate isn’t even inherently romantic. A soulmate is just the other sock in a matched set. You’re still a whole, complete sock on your own, you are perfectly functional paired with any other sock, it’s just that it’s even better when you match. A soulmate is literally just the person who makes your soul go “!!! Same hat!!!” and wave excitedly.
i love this
this is literally the only interpretation of “soulmate” that I can tolerate or accept

I believe a strong woman may be stronger than a man, particularly if she happens to have love in her heart. I guess a loving woman is indestructible.

So here’s a more “in-depth” version of my life the past few days. I’m writing this in the library, which is really a room with like two bookshelves and then a tooonnnn of chairs and couches. They have a fancy grate thing instead of a wall so you can see through to the outside, which is very helpful for claustrophobes (me).
We arrived yesterday to the port in Ensenada- the drive was beautiful, right along the coast the entire time. Crossing the border was kind of wild…The actual immigration process was simple and uneventful. I guess I knew in the abstract that there was a wall already there between the two countries but I didn’t realize that it stretches literally the entire border even though it’s just cutting through desert, and it topped by razor wire. Something just felt so strange about it. But it was really pretty going through between the country and the cities, especially when the road was built into the side of a mountain, so we were winding up a mountain with a cliff to our right and the ocean at the bottom of it.
When we got to Ensenada, the city wasn’t huge and there was a giant Mexican flag flying next to the port. The port was tiny (I think…I haven’t seen many ports). We could see the ship from up on this mountain the road was built into as we came down into the city. There was a carnival cruise ship docked at the port as well as our boat…kind of a weird place for a carnival cruise to park, there’s not much in that city it seems. We had to go through an airport security type thing when we got off the bus before we could get to the ship- I had my spire on and set off the metal detector but the guy just looked at me and let me go. I was expecting this big elaborate walkway on to the boat like you see in movies but we walked over to a tent to pick up our IDs and then just walked straight onto a boat from a little wooden ramp...a little anticlimactic but I took a video! There were like 10 faculty and staff standing in the entrance where we walked in, and they all started clapping every time a student walked in the door, so that was sweet. We got on at the 4th deck, which I guess was ground level with the port and had to climb two flights to the huge meeting room they call Kaisershal (sp?). It’s big enough to accommodate all 900 people on the ship and its decorated really fancy with gold accents and pretty chairs, and a big stage. They set it up so that you walked from table to table collecting everything you needed- papers, itineraries, dropping off medical forms, picking up schedules, all that- and then the last stop you got your room key. So, I headed down to my room, which is very nice. It’s set up so that the two (very small) closets are on your right immediately when you walk in, and the bathroom is on the left. Bathroom is bigger than I expected, and I hear the water pressure isn’t bad at all (I need to shower tonight..). After you walk part those, the wall goes out a bit and there’s a desk on the right immediately followed by my bed. I have a weird couch bed thing, where the bottom cushion folds up to hang against the wall and gives me a weird nook thing but I kind of like it. On joy’s side, there is a table built into the wall with a fridge underneath and a tv on top. Theres a side table with drawers in between our beds, and a little circle table that just floats around and doesn’t belong anywhere and we both hate it. We’ve been unpacking the past two days and I think im pretty much done now. I feel like I brought the right amount of stuff, but mom is shipping my pillow to japan because it’s cheaper than buying a new one and the one they gave me is horrible.
They had us in all sorts of orientation meetings yesterday, mostly about ship safety and stuff like that. Honestly it was 24 hours ago and already feels like a blur cause I was so exhausted and kind of out of it from the Dramamine. After I said goodbye to you, Dinner was pasta with Bolognese sauce which was surprisingly delicious. I tried to eat outside with two girls I met and the wind picked up so much as we left the coast that we had to go inside- one of the huge heavy duty umbrellas actually turned inside out! I pretty much crashed after dinner and slept like a baby- the waves really help to rock you to sleep.
We had meetings all day today too so we got up early. It was a pretty boring day. I ate something at lunch that made me really sick, enough that I left in the middle of one of my meeting lecture things cause I thought I was going to be sick. My stomach still isn’t great but it’s much better than it was earlier. I have no idea why but ive just been hungry all the time since getting on the boat (I would’ve thought it would be the opposite). Maybe it’s all the stair climbing ;) I’ve eaten meals with a different person every time and have been making an effort to put myself out there. I haven’t found anyone I really click with yet, but I’m trying. It’s a little disheartening just because I am really so introverted at heart, so it feels like so much effort to make small talk with someone only to know that we’re probably not going to talk again much. But I know I just need to keep going until I find my people and then it will be better. I was hoping that joy and I would kinda do stuff together to make meeting other people easier, but she is actually having a really hard time I think. Shes been sleeping a lot, and I think it is really hard for her to adjust to sharing a space with someone. I know she is missing her cat a lot too. I left the room to write this so she could call her parents. Turns out the little phones built into our wall can make calls to shore- you have to buy a calling card for like $20 but it gives you 50 minutes of call time and doesn’t cost the person on land anything, so im definitely going to be doing that. It just makes it a little harder and a little lonelier cause im trying to give her space to get it together, but shes the only person I really have right now. but im not feeling sad, im really excited for classes to start tomorrow!
I wasn’t sure how helpful this would be but then I saw that Die Hard is on here so this flow chart is definitely legit
