On the term, “Woke”

Sometimes it’s confusing to understand what conservatives mean when they deride something as “woke,” and lately many people claim it’s used to mean anything that conservatives don’t like. But it does have a conservative definition. In fact, Ron DeSantis’s lawyers were asked by a judge to clearly define the term while defending his Stop Woke Act in court.

This far-right conservative team, representing one of the most “anti-woke” governors in the US, defined it as “The belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them.”

I’ll take their word for it, because that’s basically what it’s always meant. Adding in, of course, the awareness of those systemic injustices as an equally important part.

Just ask yourself who would oppose that belief, besides outright fascists. No one.
