been thinking about how brilliant el is. she knew how to play chess at eight years old. she was able to find a way out of the lab after the gate opened despite how scared she was of all the chaos around her. she was the one who figured out the situation with heather in billy in season 3. she discovered the truth about her mother and figured out her home address and how to visit her in person with the limited world knowledge she had in season 2. she is SO smart and it’s overlooked constantly both in the show and by the fandom at large and that’s such a disservice to her as a character

like i just dont care if people are mad the version of the show they made up in their head isnt the consensus among all fans. will isnt el’s twin, he was barely her friend. he was meaner to her than lucas was in s1, and at least lucas had a reason to distrust her and eventually apologized. disregarding anything involving ships, will called her stupid, and a season later stood by and let her get bullied, then tried to frame her as a liar for keeping the bullying a secret, and never apologized for anything. with a twin like that, who needs enemies

i really cant believe the government just let them all walk. they werent even concerned about that box of evidence in the cabin about the experiments. like im actually confused why no one even attempted to use some kind of blackmail to get the government to leave el alone.

“Mike isn’t the person who understands El the most, it makes no sense that she said that and pulled him into the void”, okay, and who does? Will who called her his sister and then tried to flirt with her boyfriend? Max, who she was realistically friends with for like…2 months before moving to california and then we never see them interact again basically unless it’s life or death. Dustin who hasn’t had a real conversation with El since season 2? Hopper who basically treats her like a replacement Sarah and she already had a conversation with earlier in the episode? Kali who wanted her to go along with her and her friends on a revenge murder spree at 13? Lucas who we also haven’t seen have basically any conversations with El since season 2/3? Joyce and Jonathan who either don’t know she’s being bullied or just aren’t doing anything about it season 4?

And I love all those characters. This isn’t hate to any of them. but it was always going to be Mike. Mike is the one who’s given her hope. he’s the first person to be kind to her, to give her safety, to show her love. Is he perfect? absolutely not. but neither are any of those other characters and yet it’s never doubted that they love El. It’s only ever Mike who’s expected to be perfect. He messes up consistently, and it’s not just with El. It’s with Lucas, it’s with Will, it’s with everyone because for most of the series he’s not even in high school. But to pretend like he doesn’t love for El so genuinely and deeply in the ways he knows how, and to act like any other characters know her better than him is a lie.
