reiterating on this because i feel compelled to. these are all valid literary exercises. you can do whatever you want. but there is a point where once you change something that fundamental, you are engaging in an act of outright subversion rather than transformative adaptation. and you can do that. again, you can do whatever you want, but at that point it becomes facetious to call it the odyssey and say your main character is Odysseus. and people are allowed to frame their engagement with the film around “this isn’t the odyssey and that isn’t Odysseus.

sorry im seeing posts that are making me mad about this again. the problem isn’t that she’s complicated or does fucked up shit, the problem is that her stupid fucking backstory ate up like half the fucking finale’s runtime. and all it did was tell us shit we already knew, that she engages in toxic unhealthy behaviors, in particular towards women, out of jealous resentment. sick. this is an ensemble show with six other prominent characters in it. what’s up with them? are they allowed to exist in the finale narrative in any way that isn’t about jax?

elaborating on lrb i think its totally reasonable to come away from something especially something opaque with a limited or incomplete understanding. and its good to seek out elaborations and others’ views to expand your knowledge and understanding. the thing is there’s a limit wherein it becomes like, were you even paying enough attention to engage. were you trying.
