I imagine Arthur Langtry has this big folder on his desk that just gives him a year’s worth of disaster reports, and they’re all listed according to location. Or, at least, most of them are. Most of them are spread out far enough to be isolated incidents. Morocco here, Calcutta here, France here. Basically everywhere there’s been a disaster meriting his attention.

And then, at the far end of the corner, is an ever-increasing, ever-expanding black binder that just says ‘McCoy-Dresden.’

And it just keeps getting bigger every year.

Question for Ancient Mai: What can you tell me about Eastern magic and the elemental concepts of metal, wood, earth, water, and fire. How is your elemental magic different compared to Western wizards' elemental magic?

For one, perish the idea that there is such a thing as ‘Eastern’ magic. East Asia had a long culture of magic long before the White Council made first contact. If you ask a Chinese wizard, you will get a different answer from a Japanese, Indian, Burmese or Korean wizard.

But to explain the Chinese elements, once again, it comes down to understanding these elements and what they represent. For one, there are five ‘elements’ instead of four, and they are commonly called the five stages rather than the five elements. These all represent various aspects of nature and personality, some internalized by the wizard before they even start their training, molded by their personality and conceptions of self. Others must be taught, as with the classical elements.

It is different in the same way water and alcohol is different - on the surface, there is little difference between a Chinese wizard dancing with fire and a Western wizard doing the same. But a multitude of subtle factors, many of them cultural, contribute to the two being fundamentally different.
