“She never allowed herself to really know how deeply she loved him”, but that love was still shining through, quietly and subtly: - In the way she reaches for him in moments of vulnerability;

- In the way she CAN be vulnerable with him and share her fears, worries and burdens, because she trusts him to have her back;

- In the way her voice softens when she is talking to him;

- In the way her hand is on his arm while he is sleeping next to her (pretty good visual storytelling here, as she is holding on to him with one hand and doing her job with another, trying to balance both lives);

- In the way he is the only one able to get through to her when no one else can, and she actually listens;

- In the way she sometimes forgets, even for a moment, that they are having an intimate moment in public, even though they are not supposed to;

- In the way she melts into his touch;

- In the way she chooses to be with him regardless of how much it could cost her if anyone got the word of their relationship, of how big of a risk it is and how it breaks every single rule of her own organization. Normal relationship is an unaffordable luxury, and this one especially is a dangerous line to cross due to the nature of their job. But she still takes that chance at life together, albeit in secret, simply because she LOVES him.

The ocean is so fucking weird. Imagine if you were just living your life and then all of the sudden here comes one of these.

Here on land there are only so many ways a creature can move, and by the time you're six or so, you've seen pretty much all of them that you're ever likely to.

Down there in the ocean they can just do anything. You could see a new weird animal every week for your whole life, and then when you're 80 this guy rocks up to you.

So I started a series forever and a half ago (November 2025) about Serena Campbell and Charlotte Dunn (though she's always a Wolfe to me) hooking up/dating when it was believed that Bernie was dead, but I never promoted/shared the link of it here because I know it's very...niche, to put it mildly. Their story and lives and the aftermath since the first story is just...all consuming in my brain and it's something I've stuck with on a regular basis, so I thought I'd finally give it a chance here because I do actually enjoy contributing to it. It isn't perfect, but I hope someone else might like it too. Please be aware that this is a soap opera and the sections of this story do not all feature a primary focus on the hospital, but instead the interactions between the characters. I don't want anyone disappointed or having the wrong idea. If you don't wish to read it at AO3, the story is also available on Sunset.

The bed is warm, Serena’s in her arms, and Bernie can’t dredge up even a shred of motivation to get up.

“Rise and shine,” Serena mumbles into Bernie’s skin. “Shift starts in an hour.”

Humming non-committally, Bernie presses a kiss to Serena’s head. “Can’t we skive off today?” she asks, only half joking.

Serena raises her head to look at Bernie. “I thought you were a morning person.”

“I was trained to behave like one,” Bernie disagrees. “Doesn’t mean I enjoy it.”

“Come on, soldier.” Serena throws off the duvet, allowing cold air to wash over them. “l’ll make coffee.”

What people don't realize about this as well is that he would just do this on his own. Like, without the BBC demanding/requesting so for marketing purposes or anything like that. Tom would just visit schools and children's hospitals just to make them smile.
