I'm going to be using verses, that way I can add on without needing a separate page for arcs and verses. I will not be using customized arcs, I'll only be changing verses for specific divergences drastic enough to warrant their own explanation page. That should be less confusing than having the same situations, just in a different arc tailored to a specific muse.

I've redone my tags to be less generic, and I also won't be using the fancy O because it's annoying to copy/paste that constantly. I'll be using the silent U, since by technicality, that's how it would be in romanji without the contraction. "Hanyou" not "Hanyo" with a fancy O. The exception is my about page on the new blog.

I also updated my rules some more on the new blog

All threads will be dropped, unless you explicitly request they be continued. There are four right now I plan on writing as though they were plotted starters based on the last reply. I'll be wording them as though they're their own starter, rather than a continuation.

"Right here."

It's not like he had a lot to work with here, which was why he'd lowered his hand into the sleeve of his suikan, the fabric being used to wipe off yōkai blood. The scent was overwhelming. Disgusting, but overly familiar. This was a smell he could breathe through, even in such high quantities.

He'd seen too much of it.

"I think ya killed it about five or six slashes ago."

It would be left at that. He'd been taken over by both sides of his own blood. Neither he could truly control, it was dependent on circumstance, and controlling himself when his own yōkai blood took over was a complex thing all by itself. For someone so much younger, it came as no surprise if it couldn't be controlled at all.

After all, his first time was only years ago, and he was over two hundred. Most didn't understand the difficulty in even understanding what it meant to have mixed blood, let alone what it felt like for one side to take over.

With the blood cleaned, the hand resting on North's cheek lowered, until the hanyō's arms were back at his sides.

"Got ahold of yourself now?"

Well... that wasn't the reaction she'd been banking on. He seemed prepared to doubt her, and for that, she had wanted to shock some sense into him. The lightning still sputtered and sparked above head, and Nami's mouth twisted, momentarily perplexed. He was relaxing. She'd sent a storm cloud out to bully him, and he was relaxing.

"You're gonna..." She began to speak, an attempt to warn him of the lightning that would inevitably strike. Her desire to strike him had lessened, now that he was in such awe. It was actually sort of sweet.

She also couldn't deny the joy in being asked about her science. Most people didn't take an interest in her skill and how she accomplished it. It wasn't that nobody cared --- it was simply that it was easy to be outshined on a crew like hers.

"Well. You never asked."

Simple as that, really. Most people didn't.

"You could do it. Anyone can."

She wasn't special, really. Not gifted by any deities or cursed by any witches, not a chosen one by any means. She had simply studied and learned, and mastered the science, with a weapon built to specialize in honing those techniques.

"Anyone with basic science knowledge can do it. That's all I have. Oh, and patience," she admitted, with a tilt of her head towards the sky. Weatheria, where she had apprenticed for two years, was high in the clouds. She wondered what those old men were up to these days.

"The wizards who taught me are... annoying, but they mean well. Doesn't make it any easier to deal with them, sometimes. They about lost their minds when I told them I'd be using their weather science as a weapon."

Those were things that told him he'd never be able to do it. These days, he had plenty of patience. As for scientific knowledge, that was something he'd never get. He was sure of it. Inuyasha could only predict weather patterns by scent, no science about it. Over a century traveling alone, a guy learned to pick up on the moisture levels in the air. Water had a scent, whether humans noticed it or not. A scent that strengthened, or weakened depending on how much of it there was, and its contents. A scent that changed depending on what season it was.

So many things.

The choice was made to sit up, though the hanyō made no effort to get out from under the personal storm cloud. Didn't even know it would follow him if he did, didn't care. The warmth of a storm's rain felt good on his skin, in his hair. He'd be paying for it later, when the warmth was gone, when he was left with nothing more than soaked clothes. But you had to take moments like these where you could get them, you didn't get warm rain like this in any season other than summer, and that was another year away.

"Nah, I couldn't do it." Stated as a fact, as Inuyasha brushed wet, silver bangs from his eyes. "I got all the time in the world, but I can't read. Science is somethin' I'm never gonna know anything about. I'll leave stuff like this to the experts, like you. I know when it's gonna rain, how intense it's gonna be, hours before it happens." A light shrug. "But it has nothin' to do with science."

He had his own areas of expertise. Magic wasn't and never would be one of them. Swordsmanship was where he shined. Running, leaping so high into the air you could almost touch the clouds. Not magic. Golden eyes slipped closed,though he was no less paying attention to every word spoken.

"If I didn't know any better, I'd say they didn't have much mind to begin with. You fight with what ya got. Magic, a weapon, even just your fists. Ya do whatever it takes." Eyes opening partway, gaze on the cloud above him. "'Specially somethin' like this. Been caught out in a lotta typhoons over the past two centuries, shit like that can level entire villages."

Little change in expression, Inuyasha's head shifted, eyes now focused on her.

"Why wouldn't ya use somethin' like that as a weapon?"

Ears are going absolutely wild.

Apples were his favorite fruit, and this was an explosion of flavor unlike anything he'd ever experienced. Good didn't begin to describe it, that was why he'd been so quiet (though as much as they were twitching in response to the taste, he was listening to every word), he was taking a moment to let himself experience it all.

"...No. Never even heard of a place like that."

Admittedly, he hadn't seen much of Japan at a ll in this era. Travel wasn't as easy, there were so many differences. Differences that were detrimental to someone like him, unrelated to the way he looked. Construction, people painting buildings, sometimes even something like cars could have him struggling to breathe. At least here, those things weren't prevalent.

Didn't help that, unbeknownst to him, Aomari wasn't founded for another three hundred years or so after the year he lived in these days. Just a reminder he was no more than a visitor to this era.

"I've heard of makin' alcohol with a lot of things, but apples ain't one of 'em."

Raising the glass again, he allowed himself to get lost for another moment. The alcohol itself, this was hardly enough to affect him. A whole gallon of the stuff probably wouldn't have. Rare as it was for Inuyasha to partake in anything alcoholic, yōkai blood had a way of neutralizing that factor, just like most poisons that affected humans.

Now, things like that made with yōkai in mind? He was a lightweight.

"Can't even tell what half of the stuff in this is." Was he ever going to be able to drink any of it without his ears twitching madly with enjoyment? "It's really good though. Never had anything like it."

Today is a read, icon, and color day I think

Thanks to Jess I have incredible quality to make icons out of for coloring later, and the translation is more polished, and given the method I'm not scrolling for twenty four years just to get through 20 pages. I'm a fast reader, with no distractions I'll be caught up within less than two hours to where I was chronologically, just that I can icon really smoothly (how I got icons before is an ocean of an experience in and of itself)

But I'll be looking at things here and there/probably sending memes if something catches my eye

He was just getting comfortable, too.

Kohaku looked over as Inuyasha was speaking about the heat which was understandable given the season about summer, he looked at his map as he drew some locations in mind to see as he would reply.

“Sorry there Inuyasha as I didn’t mean to bring you out in this heat, I guess I should be careful too given I’m wearing my demon slayer outfit.

I was seeking out this super cool rock formation that makes the shape of a bird, it sounded unique the way the villagers described it so I figured I would seek it out with you. I hope you didn’t mind, didn’t want to force you to assist.”

He replies as he rubs the back of his head, sheepishly grinning at the half dog hanyōu he has come to call his big brother.

He was glad that Naraku was no more and that the Shikon Jewel was gone as well, though, for some unknown reason, he still had the enhancement from the shard he possessed as it must’ve infused within his blood. In a way, this enhancement in his skills comes in handy given dire situations.

"Cut that out. You know I wouldn't be here if I didn't wanna come."

It wasn't even a lie. There were some instances where he pushed himself to do something for someone else's sake, whether he wanted to or not. When things came to Kohaku, 'forced' was never a term at all. Never would be, no matter how old the teenager got. If Kohaku wanted to do something, he'd do it with him. If that meant taking a walk? Done.

...If it meant being in a field under the blistering sun and potentially combusting into flames on the spot.

"Be careful?"

A golden eye opened partway.

"You sayin' ya don't even feel how hot it is?" A quirk of an eyebrow. "How the hell are you not sweatin' your ass off?"

At least he had an excuse. Dogs didn't sweat. Made heat all the worse for them. Inuyasha's human blood didn't make up for that trait of being half dog yōkai. Summers were brutal, there wasn't anything he could do. Granted, it might help if he didn't wear so many layers on a regular basis, but even then, a guy couldn't take off his skin or anything.

Stretching his arms out to his sides, an ear flicked in irritation, no attempt made to hide his audible groan.

"Sleepin' on a riverbed sounds pretty good right about now. Sun can't hit ya as hard through water." A short huff through the nose. "Gimme a minute, we'll find your bird rock soon."

Astaria rolled her eyes.

“And what do you suggest then? That I feed on animal blood for the rest of my days?” A scoff. “Honestly…”

There was no way for Inuyasha to have known about her past, Astaria wasn’t exactly an open door to it. But it was a past covered in filth and humiliation. Rats, insects… whatever squirmed in the dark was the only thing she could sink her fangs into. Her master wouldn’t have allowed her any other meals.

It was a daily reminder of what a vermin she was.

Never again.

Even now, Astaria’s skin still crawled with those vile memories, rancid and alive, and it made her lips wry in disgust. Ever since she’s broken free of those shackles, Astaria had sworn she would never taste that kind of misery again.

Especially not after savouring the exquisite ambrosia of human blood.

“If you love humans so much, why don’t you run off with one instead of wasting your time babysitting someone who clearly isn’t human in the first place?” A sigh ensued, and she walked up to the mouth of the cave, stalking a grazing deer with those blood red eyes. “Look, my way of keeping you good souls from getting all moral and indignant about my meals was simple enough—I’ve only been drinking from the wretched ones. Murderers, thieves…” A pause, and her eyes shifted to their corner, glancing at Inuyasha. “...Rapists.”

Love humans? That was a really strong word to use. Even 'like' was debatable. As far as humans went, he accepted them, and he'd learned to accept the humanity within himself. He wouldn't kill a human. Wouldn't stop him from a fist to the top of the skull if he felt it was needed (which he often did), but he'd never kill a human. Just try to ignore the feeling of every single eye on him, even when there weren't any eyes at all.

Inuyasha's personal struggles that persisted to this day had nothing to do with any of this. His words came from understanding what it meant to be pushed into doing something. There were some pretty shitty people in the world, but shitty people weren't born. They were formed. It wasn't an excuse, that was why he tolerated her killing them. Meant they couldn't hurt anyone else. Meant they could be put out of whatever hell they must have gone through to turn to that.

"Stop twisting my fucking words. I said things aren't that simple. Open those god damn ears."

He wasn't an actual human either. Not right now, she'd see soon enough when that happened. The month was only progressing, any hanyō had an innate sense of when their night was approaching. Inuyasha's night was coming too soon. It was always too soon, and never fast enough for it to end. Accepting his humanity didn't mean enjoying that he had to be so physically weak compared to his usual self once a month.

...Then her pause ended.

His heart could have stopped then and there.

That wasn't the same as any of the others. Bandits, thieves. They took material possessions, caused injury. Those were things that could be replaced, and most of the time, treated. Murderers... their victims didn't suffer, at least. He didn't have a place to talk about them. Any of them. He'd injured, he'd taken lives, and in the utmost desperation of his younger days, he'd even stolen.

But that last one...

The very thought made his blood boil.

That was something that had a deep impact on a living person. That was something that couldn't even have a reason. Nothing could happen in your life to excuse doing something that fucked up. He knew what it was, and he knew it happened. But knowing it was going on so close that Astaria could kill them for their blood? Not a chance of him hiding an anger so deep, his own blood was outwardly present.

Fists so tight, Inuyasha's own claws had pierced his skin. Palms were bloody, and he didn't feel a hint of it.

"...Just tell me one thing."

He couldn't even yell. Sometimes rage was so powerful the hatred in your voice was louder. When was the last time his tone had been so dark?

"One fucking thing Astaria.

Tell me those worthless bastards died painfully."

There was no telling Inosuke'a actual age. In fact, the boar himself wouldn't be able to answer that question accurately. He could tell that he had lived more winters than he could count on his fingers, and that his stature hadn't changed much for a while... but that was about it.

As far as he was concerned, he was already in the prime of his adulthood. His temper and behavior told a much different story - evidenced by the temper that he was about to throw.

"...HAH? If you want me to shut up, then make me! Why are you putting your sword away?! Are you scared?!!"

He staggered across the field, following the trail that his rolling body had left behind. The winds were picking up, the low rumble of thunder reminding the two brawlers of the coming storm. Inosuke no longer seemed to care about it.

"I've never faced an opponent like you! This is my chance to... to surpass you... and reach even greater heights!" Inosuke's speech was interrupted with heavy breaths. "I'm gonna make a move... just like yours... and use it to kill everyone who stands in my way!"

Inosuke planted his feet firm into the ground, his jagged blades brought above his shoulders. He meant to try and replicate Inuyasha's own move, eyes glaring daggers at his sitting opponent, but the attack didn't have a chance to land. Inosuke's hair stood on end all across his body, as he suddenly rolled to the ground and remained curled up.

There was a blinding flash, followed by the immediate crack of defeaning thunder. Lightning had struck a tree just a few meters away.

...This was reaching very uncomfortable levels.

Inosuke was too familiar. Not in any sense of having ever met him. It was like looking into a mirror of who he'd been himself years ago. All this, and Inosuke thought he was a yōkai? This guy was just kidding himself if he thought he had any hope of using The Wind's Scar. It was the Tessaiga's most explosive power, and it hadn't been easy to memorize how to use it. Onlookers, they saw it and thought anything they wanted.

It was impossible to show someone who to see what made it possible to use so much power at all. That just wasn't how it worked. There was definitely something special about those weapons Inosuke was working with, or maybe it was a raw strength Inuyasha didn't have himself. Made sense, a boar was stronger than any dog.

Trying (and failing) to hide the irritation, the hanyō stood, sighing very audibly on purpose.

"Idiot. You overexerted yourself."

...

...What the hell?

Head jerking, sensitive ears were twitching wildly. If it were a stronger sense, it'd be more than just the pain of the loud noise. The ringing echoing through his hearing. Silent footsteps, even as water began to pour from the sky. He would have taken Inosuke to shelter anyway, but someone passing out from overexertion didn't curl up like that. Inuyasha knelt, instead.

"Hey. Are you gonna listen to me now? 'Cause you've got a lot to learn, and I'm not leaving until I've said everything I wanna say." A hand lowered, lightly shaking the other's body by touch of his shoulder. "You're not scared of a little thunder, are you?"

kagome winced at the insult. it didn't matter who it was directed—himself or her—the effect was the same; it hurt. her attempt to spin the narrative into a more positive perspective was thwarted at the root. when she began this conversation, she never imagined it would turn out like this. who knew he would be so stubborn even at the expense of his self-image. just when she thought she knew the ins and outs of inuyasha, he revealed a deeper, complicated layer of himself. he was right about one thing: she wasn't going to drop it. enough was enough. she stepped in front of him, intent on garnering his attention so he could see how serious she truly was.

❝ i'm thankful for that. ❞ she paused for an extended period to allow her words to linger in the air. she prayed her gratitude would be conveyed properly with the additional time. they had a way of talking past one another; it often consisted of only hearing the last bit the other had to say versus the full message. she didn't want her words to be misconstrued, not this time.

❝ i'm not going anywhere... but we can talk about something else if that's what you want. i don't want to push the subject. i just hope you think about what i said too. you're worth more than you realize. ❞

Thankful...? That wasn't what he expected to hear. Even if by some chance she stubbornly refused to leave for some reason she chose to be stubborn, try to force him to change his feelings about the world. About himself, he hadn't in his wildest imagination expected her to be thankful for something that must have made him sound like a whiny kid. Inuyasha wasn't a kid anymore, hadn't been for over a century. He'd reached adulthood years before he'd even met Kikyō.

Eyebrows were furrowed. Kagome was trying to get at something with this, wasn't she? What did she want now? Why was she trying to be nice... like this...?

❝ i'm not going anywhere...❞

Was it instinct that made his gaze reach such an intensity?

No, instinct didn't work that way. Instinct was how you survived. Survive, and kill whatever challenged you. Knock some sense into whatever stood in your way. Inuyasha had spoken of himself as naturally as breathing. This was the first glimpse he'd yet given of what fear lurked in the depths of those golden eyes.

❝i just hope you think about what i said too. you're worth more than you realize. ❞

Crushing pain, that lacked any physical wound to show for it. This was where instinct screamed to kick in. Raise his voice, yell at her, say every cruel word he knew. That anger was likely evident on his face, too. Ears were raised, alert, arms stiff at his sides.

And then he took a deep inhale through his nose.

Kagome's scent alone calmed that rage. Even if she hadn't spoken so gently, her scent would have been enough right now. That was why Inuyasha's face held an uncharacter softness. Eyes locked, for what felt like an eternity to him, even though it was mere seconds.

"...I'll think about it." Glance shifted downwards. ""What you said."

A few more seconds, before that silver hair of his whipped around with the rest of his body. The hanyō was walking away again. This time, Inuyasha was fully expecting to be followed. It wasn't to get away, she'd calmed the storm for now. The words that followed with each soft footstep, it came out in his usual blunt nature.

"Keh." Without pausing in movement, arms settled in the sleeves of his suikan. "But only 'çause I'm so hungry right now. I don't feel like arguing. I know ya brought the good stuff, been smellin' it in your bag all day."

Ears swiveled subtly. Listening, to make sure she really was coming with.

She's made her choice. She said she wasn't going anywhere.

And maybe someday he'd have it in him to tell her that meant way more than anything else.

She smiled. The knight's duty was to engage in battle, and she was ready to fight—not only with her sword but also with her presence, her decisions, and her unyielding determination. Even when fatigue threatened to pull her down, she would remain steadfast. 

Even when her body cried out for rest, she would heed the call. This was her essence, beneath the strength, beneath the divine shields: a guardian shaped by service. She met Inuyasha's intense gaze without flinching, her own blue eyes unwavering. 

"Then we fight together." She stated simply, her words heavy with the promise of an oath. "I may feel exhausted, but I am not without purpose. And I will not step aside while others put themselves in danger."

She adjusted her stance, rising gracefully from her knees despite the persistent ache in her limbs. The brown skirt swirled around her boots as she turned to confront the encroaching shadows of the forest.

 Her senses, honed by countless confrontations, strained against the eerie stillness. The birds had gone quiet; even the rustling leaves seemed subdued, as if the forest itself was holding its breath. Adelheid took a deep breath, catching the faint, sickly-sweet odor of decay beneath the crisp autumn air—a telltale sign of the White Whale's approach. 

It was nearer than she had expected. Nightfall would arrive too late; the hunt had already commenced.

As she tilted her head back, letting the fading afternoon light wash over her face. The fiery red ponytail brushed against the green vest as she studied the cloudless expanse. A small, genuine smile touched her lips—not of triumph, but of profound relief. 

“Then I have no reason to pretend before someone like you, filled with such confidence. I guess I don’t have to pretend anymore.”

For so long, she’d clenched her power like a fist, holding back the torrent of divine energy that could shatter mountains or level cities with a thought. Every step as she had been a study in restraint, a deliberate softening of the Sword Saint’s world-shaking presence. But this? 

This looming monstrosity demanded no such gentleness. Here, at the edge of the nameless forest, against a beast that devoured hope itself, she could finally unclench. The smile widened, almost imperceptibly. For the first time in months, the weight of suppression lifted. She wouldn’t hold back. Not for this.

“I won’t let anyone die, you have my word, just be careful when the fight begins.”

The irritated sigh wasn't hidden. He didn't even try.

Yet... it was difficult to find it in himself to argue. Torn between asserting the stupidity in her fighting when she was so physically exhausted. Too easy for someone to get killed that way. To have a purpose, that was another matter entirely, a sense of meaning he couldn't argue with at all. Inuyasha's manner steadied, silent agreement as the hanyō rose to his feet in turn. No opportunity to speak, before the scent hit him. Hard.

A few quiet coughs, this smell wasn't faint to him. A combination he wasn't accustomed to, but both of those things, decay especially, Inuyasha was more familiar with than any other scent in the world. A hand raised, temporary cover for his nose, as he turned to watch the same direction she'd been facing.

"Don't tell me to be careful when you're the one who's exhausted."

Having adjusted to the scent, the look on his face was as sturdy as his stance. Consistent experience, learning combative techniques, all of it blended together to make a hardened warrior, rather than just some fighter slashing with claws and throwing punches. All the more better he hadn't brought his friends to find what had been the scent of winter, long gone from current moment. They didn't need to be in whatever danger this was.

"We can talk about whatever you're hiding when that thing's dead."

His coughing was as quiet as before. It would take a few more seconds to prepare himself all over again to handle the intensifying scent of death. Even worse, how clear it was to him that this was neither human, nor was he familiar with it as any yōkai he'd ever come across.
