don’t ask me how the bow tie stays on
Role swap au where Zuko was the Avatar who got frozen for a hundred years, so when he’s rescued from the ice instead of a goofy twelve year old Katara catches this mysterious teenager with long hair and a cool scar and a fucking DRAGON
Katara: BOY???? HOT BOY?????? HOT TEENAGE BOY?????????
Zuko: *speaks*
Katara: nevermind I hate him
How does Aang factor into this? I ask because the more I think about it the more I want him to somehow be trying to capture the Avatar.
Aang is 112 years old, decided he was going to be Zuko’s airbending teacher, and refuses to take no for an answer
Aang: Aw, the new Avatar doesn’t want me. Aang: *gets out a weighted net* Time for Plan B then.
JDJSHJABDBFJSH
Look, you know how you keep a net from falling on you? YOU AIRBEND IT, SUCKA. Air comes right after fire in the cycle so it’s not like the guy has any other options. Do you want a flaming net falling on you? No? Then learn to airbend. Or this tiny old man will cart you away like a trussed turkey and lecture you about the power of laughter, going with the flow, opening your chakras, and other hippie shit.
Sokka, slouching against a fence, not moving: Oh nooooooo, that creepy old man stole the Avataaaaaaaaaar. Sokka, sitting down on the ground: We should dooooo something. Sokka, pulling out his lunch: Otherwise he might actually learn something. That would be teeeerrible. Katara, indignant rage coursing through her body: Sokka!!!!!!!! We have to go look for him!!!! Sokka: Might! Actually! Learn! Something! Katara! Katara: *wavers* Katara, also sitting down: We have to go look for him…. *gets out her own sandwich* But, maybe after lunch.
I love that this transforms Aang’s role in the full Team Avatar familial situation from the baby of the family to the Grandpa with weird hobbies
My brain, immediately after the “Aang won’t take no for an answer” post:
Aang: I’m gonna ride him! *jumps on Zuko’s shoulders*
Actually, I thought a bit more about this: If Aang is “grandpa figure who won’t fucking stop teaching Zuko to be a better and more spiritually fulfilled person,” then what is Iroh doing?
And then it hit me.
Iroh: *sitting in a teahouse at a paisho table* Iroh, deadpan: I must capture the last airbender. Iroh: It is the only way to make sure the powe rof the Avatar won’t be turned on the Fire Nation. Iroh: Only then will I be redeemed in the eyes of the Fire Lord for my failure at Ba Sing Se. Iroh: … Iroh: Anyway, it’s your turn.
About half of the B plots are just Iroh finding new ways to feign incompetence and bad luck so that his political watchdog can’t prove that he’s letting Aang - and by extension Zuko - get away.
@ray10k
Sometimes Iroh plays paisho with Aang, whose entire disguise during these games consists of a painfully fake mustache.
AANG WAS THE OTHER PLAYER IN THAT SCENE OF COURSE IT’S PERFECT (the moustache is just a bit of Appa’s fur tied in a string)
i think about this post all the time and if i may, i would like to suggest keeping the banished royalty angle for zuko.
he was the eldest son of fire lord sozin, who knew the avatar was the greatest threat to the fire nation, but also knew the new one would be a firebender and he couldn’t exactly merc his own people, now could he? but he always planned to order a convenient little assassination on whoever the new avatar turned out to be and in the meantime took out the air temples so that avatar couldn’t learn the next element in the cycle. of course, when it turns out to be his son, sozin, stellar dad that he is, thinks “if you want something done right” and shoots a fire blast at his firstborn.
zuko enters the avatar state, blows up half the palace, etc etc as one does, gets a nasty scar for his trouble, and escapes, hence why he was hanging out far enough south to necessitate katara and sokka cracking open a cold boy a century later.
all this is to say 1. i think it’s a good way to maintain zuko’s background and characterization in an au like this and 2. it leads to a secret second roleswap
because this makes zuko iroh’s uncle.
Reblogging again for Katara and Sokka cracking open a cold boy.
real nuance perverts when it depends
I loved when “Drift Compatible” entered pop lexicon cause we were in DESPERATE need for a way to platonically express “one of us to the other is as a limb to a body; we are a left and right feet of a dancer; we do not need to speak because any one word inspires an exchange of unspoken words that conveys a full conversation in which a mutual conclusion is determined in an instant”. Huge win for the QPRs out here
I also really love that the movie explicitly shows that drift compatibility can be any form of relationship. Two brothers, three brothers, husband and wife, father and son, two friends who have lost everything to the same enemy. It isn’t about the way you connect, it’s about the connection itself. And of course, that connection lets you put boots to asses and kill alien monsters together. Because the power of human connection can change the world or something.
TLDR: this white queer person tried to hold other white queer people accountable for their racism and they DID NOT LIKE THAT
[ Video transcript: two tiktoks by daniyalisbae (daniyal is bae) of them close up to/talking to their phone camera.
First part is them staring at the camera in exasperation. Caption says: "white transmascs appropriating black culture after transitioning because they associate blackness with masculinity." Theres music playing and they mouth along the words "that is not the baby!"
Second part is a response to the first. Slow piano music plays in the background. Caption says: "white queers have a weaponized incompetence problem."
The filmer says the following:
"The other day, I made a video talking about how white transmascs appropriate black culture in order to feel more masculine because they associate blackness with masculinity. And never before in my life, or posting videos about trans discourse, have I gotten so many comment from people acting completely oblivious or confused to the issue, even though the issue is a very simple statement.
I think this reflects the fact that a lot of white queer people are just incapable of thinking about issues if it is not personally affecting them.
And I think this reveals a weaponized incompetence issue in the larger white queer community when it comes to racial issues. When someone brings attention to intercommunal issues not about race, I never get these comments. I never get comments acting confused, or acting like what im talking about is so incomprehensible, or saying things like, 'well, I've never seen this happen,' because people accept 'maybe this has happened, just not to me.'
But the second someone brings up a racial issues, suddenly it's incredibly confusing and complex, and people need to explain to them five million different ways to where they get it. And obviously other people call bullshit to this, and they say, 'This is very clearly just you refusing to understand this, not you being unable to understand.'
And a lot of people in the comment seem to be resorting to the fact they theyre neuro divergent to excuse the fact that theyre not aware of racial dynamics in the queer community. And I think this is a larger problem. People like to flee into marginalized identity and talk about how theyre queer, or theyre neurodivergent, in order to get away from complex critiques about the way they ignore racism in their own community.
There are two possibilities. Either 1: these people are aware of this issue, and are pretending not to know about it because it allows them to escape accountability; or 2: theyre just generally not aware of it. But both of these things reveal a problem, because it means that white queer people either do not notice, or do not care, about the racism happening in their own community. Because the problem identified is not a niche issue, it happens all the time. But the refusal to use critical thinking —or even just look in the comments for other explanations, before jumping to acting confused and acting ignorant of the issue— is a bigger problem that white queer people need to examine in themselves.
Remaining ignorant on issues of race and acting like you've never seen this happen, or you've never heard this before, is a result of you ignoring it, not as a result of it not happening.
The fact that tons of people in the comments who are Black queer people are saying this happens all the time, but white queer people are saying they've never seen it happen, suggests that it's not that it doesn't happen, its that white queer people dont recognize it happening because they dont actually pay attention to racial issues in their community. Which is why when it gets called out, they act so confused about it.

Grace and Rocky, giving a tour of the Hail Mary to fascinated Eridian scientists and diplomats.
Pointing at things and explaining what they are and how the ship works, lots of awed and appreciative noises are made.
Until one of the visiting Eridians points out a specific item. “And that?”
It’s a strange, circular thing, a xenonite disk mounted upright on some sort of pivot so it can spin freely, but around the edges it has… spokes? Pegs? Sticking out of it, that hit against a stiff flap that would slow down the spinning.
It is also separated into sections decorated with crude etchings of a human and an Eridian.
“Ah,” Grace says.
“That,” Rocky says.
“That’s. Um.” Grace seems somewhat embarrassed. “That’s the sacrifice wheel.”
