Anti-Consumption/Consumerist list (reading edition) part 1
Kinda just done with how broken the system, thought someone might get a use out of these. If there is anything to add or if someone needs piracy assistance or anything I'm free to help.
also this is all hypothetical so don't do illegal stuff ;)
Now you don't need to go buy hundreds of books at the store to never read them.
you're quite likely to have a local library in your area (states at least) if not ones near you most likely your state has an online program where you can get one for free If you search for it is here but you could probably just look that up.
with this you get access to free borrowing books, audio-books, movies, magazines, comics, and more depending on local area. Either digital or physical depending on preference/availability. They also have other programs like job assistance or tutoring usually so just check their website.
Also High schools and collages usually get free or discounted cards to local libraries in addition to their own collections that usually more stuff than You'd expect (I use my academic libraries stuff for x-men comics so try looking at that)
I also found website called the queer liberation library. It's a free library card for anyone to read LGBTQIA+ or other books like ones about disiblities or BIPOC and so much more. It's a nice collection of books overall and literally took 3 minutes to sign up.
also many public domain books are just free to download if you google them. I often use this to get class books digitally and adjust the text all for free
also for more public domain books try Project Gutenberg or The internet archive.
Public domain books are all legal to download free since the copyright expired. Library books sometimes have royalties to support authors so always try their first for just reading a book (unless it's like JK rolling or somthing)
For book ownership digitally there are tons of downloading sites that you should totally never use
like don't use anna's archive where you can directly download basically any book you can think of. Without directly needing a vpn (always good to be safe but it's not required).
But in such a hypothetical scenario you should always download the Epub because they Literally can't have a virus and it's good to be safe
for physical books they are tons of little free libraries all around that you can use to swap books with people. Or if you can't afford any books just take one and don't beat yourself up or others over it, but otherwise try to swap.
otherwise try looking for used copies at thrift stores, library sales, or small bookshops that are locally owned. Or mabye try borrowing a book from a friend, people should do that more rather than a copy of somthing that will eventually be unused or ignored possibly
if there is a certain popular book just try googling or looking on tumblr for "book title google drive" or "book title pdf" its probably out there
try looking up youtube audiobooks if the book is public domain like there are tons of great gatsby audiobooks all for free.
if you have a kindle consider jail-breaking it so amazon can't steal your books
web comics are offen posted online before being put in volumes like you can read heartstopper on webtoons
also for more just look under FMHY for books and other things, substitute download links can be used because things offen change. Just know what you're doing an use a vpn if torrenting. (in a scenerio)
