A Dutch church has been conducting religious services for 27 days to protect a refugee family

"It's impossible to express how special it feels when so many people help you."

For the past 27 days, a small Protestant church in The Hague has been conducting round-the-clock religious services to protect an Armenian refugee family from deportation.

By law, police officers in The Netherlands are not allowed to enter places of worship during religious services. So, reverends from around the country have taken turns holding services at Bethel Church to prevent officials from arresting the Tamrazyan family, who have been in The Netherlands for nine years. 

“By giving hospitality to this family, we could give them time and place to [demonstrate] to the secretary of state the … urgency of their situation,” Theo Hettema, chairman of the General Council of Protestant Ministers says.

Concept: a good natured wish granting spirit who has got your back, like if you wish “I want a million bucks” they are like “to quickly clarify, you mean one million American dollars that are legitimate currency, aren’t fraudulent, and won’t make the police suspicious”

Spirits that go even further and ignore wishes like “I wish I were dead” because they understand you’re not being literal and if you are well they Aren’t Gonna Help With That Buddy Let’s Get You Some Help

Spirits that hear wishes like “I just wish I was happier” and start pulling out charts and diagrams about what happiness means for you and how we can get you there together

Spirits that straight up tell you “there’s nothing wrong with that wish but it’s really stupid so think over whether you actually need one million literal bucks, again are you SURE that is what you mean”

I kinda feel like most of the jerk genies you hear about probably got that way from people abusing their wishes after being generously given them and then they start being immoral and greedy and suspicious.

I mean If I agreed to do someone a favor and they say “the favor I want done is infinite favors forever”, I would tell them to shove it but magical beings can’t always break an agreement once made even if the other party broke the spirit of the agreement.  so it is complacently understandable why someone breaking the spirit of the wish granting might not like how the words they used could be twisted,  but it does not mean that the Wish granting entity would not have gone above and beyond if you had been nice to them.
