Warnings: None, this is just college au domestic fluff.
Summary: College is leaving you way too overworked, so Wanda uses her magic to distract you until you give yourself a break.
Word count: 963
A/N: I didnât proof read, so thereâs probably some mistakes. This is my first Wanda fic, I hope you enjoy!
Masterlist
If you had to choose one word to describe your semester, you would probably pick âchaosâ. College had never been a calm experience, but, this time, it seemed like all of your professors had come together in a twisted deal to drown you in deadlines and tests. After finishing a paper that was due in a few hours, you were trying to catch up on the readings for a test the next morning. All you wanted was to relax for a minute, maybe take a quick nap, but there was just no time.
Surrounded by books, loose papers and colorful markers, you sat at the dining table in the apartment you shared with your girlfriend. She would be home any minute now, and you could already anticipate her rant. You needed to sleep, to take it easy, to give yourself a break. This routine wasnât good for your body or your mind and that unhealthy cycle had to be broken. Of course, Wanda was right, but you were too anxious and stubborn to give in, no matter how much you would like to.
You shook those thoughts away and tried to focus on your work. You managed to pay attention to the subject, highlighting and annotating the main points, but that didnât last for long. Soon, the door was opened silently, a red glow making the doorknob move as Wanda entered the room with her arms full of groceries.
âHey, sweetheart. How is that paper going?â The bags of groceries flew to the table and Wanda walked to you, giving you a small kiss before checking what you were reading.
âI finished it, finally! Iâm not even halfway through the readings for Johnsonâs test tomorrow, though. I donât know how Iâm going to finish this in time.â You pouted, trying to reorganize the sources in front of you.
âMaybe you should try to get some rest before you continue. It would be easier to focus if you had had a break in the last five days, you know.â She smiled, running her hands over your hair. You both knew that you werenât that easy to convince, but Wanda would always give it a try just in case.
âI will get a break, I promise. In three days.â You offered, hoping that Wanda would recognize a lost case and let it go.
For a few minutes, it looked like she had. The redhead took the groceries to the small kitchen, and you could hear cabinets opening and closing while each item was put in place. You reread the last paragraph of the page, trying to decode the words. And then, you felt a kiss at the back of your neck, right where Wanda always kissed you, and you turned around, looking for her.
There was nothing there. From the kitchen, still came the sounds of cans and boxes being placed, and Wandaâs light footsteps hadnât stopped. You turned back to the page and read the paragraph once more. And then you got a vivid image in your head, but it wasnât at all related to the subject you were studying. It was an image of Wandaâs hair spread over your arm as you two cuddled in bed, a mess of blankets and limbs and you and her. You could almost smell her shampoo as she moved, hugging you closer. You could feel her touch in your arms, the movement of her hands against your skin. The sensation was so clear in your mind, just as ifâŠ
Oh.
âThat is very much not fair, Wan. I had almost finished this page. Not fair at all.â You said, not bothering to look around. You knew she was still in the kitchen, but she was definitely listening.
Her laughter came floating in the air, making you smile despite how tired and stressed you were. All cabinets were closed at the same time and Wanda walked out of the kitchen, running her hands over your arms just like she did in the vision she gave you. You gave up and turned around to look at her. Studying wasnât going very well anyway.
âIf you wonât take care of yourself, sweetheart, I gotta take this into my own hands. With whatever weapons I find available.â She reinforced her point by bending down to kiss you, holding you close.
âJust a nap, then.â You got up, giving her your best puppy eyes, and allowing her to lead you to the bedroom.
âA nap and then dinner. Iâm cooking.â There was no point in arguing with her. Instead, you just kissed her shoulder and pulled her to bed.
âOkay, Wan. And if I donât pass that test, can you mind wipe the professor to give me a good grade?â You joked, getting comfortable as Wanda passed her arms around you, covering you both in blankets.
âItâs very unethical to get inside someoneâs mind without an invitation, honey. I could get my magical license suspended.â She looked so cute pretending to be serious that you couldnât even be mad.
âLetâs keep that in mind when I have my finals, okay?â You sighed, burying your face in her shoulder and already feeling sleepy. You werenât sure if it was Wandaâs magic or if you were just that tired.
âNo promises. I forget the rules when you forget to be kind to yourself.â She whispered, kissing your hair and holding you close. Your heart shattered at how much she cared, at how dedicated she was to making sure you were well.
âOh, WanâŠâ You tried to speak, but you felt her shaking her head.
âSleep now, sweetheart. We got this. You just need to rest.â You nodded, letting her warmth surround you and breathing in her perfume. In five minutes, you were both asleep.
I absolutely love your CR writing (you encapsulate them so well) and am sending in a request for Caleb Widogast x fem!reader!
My idea was that the reader has a crush on Caleb and gets all flustered when he speaks in zemnian cuz she finds it really attractive. He notices and likes her too and starts to speak it more to get her reactions and flirt with her. In the end theyâre together/kiss/up to you!
Thank you so much for considering my request! đđ
They Speak Another Language to Fluster S/O
Fandom: Critical Role
Character(s): Caleb Widogast
Type of Request: Headcanons
Note(s): Thank you so much! Also, very cute request, I'm happy to write it!
Caleb
At first, he didn't even realize. He would speak and sometimes slip Zemnian into his common when the words came easier.
And then he was reading a Zemnian book aloud and saw you scout a tad closer. He was mostly trying to annoy Beau, but his focus changed to your expression and how much you hung on to his every words, despite not knowing what he was saying.
Caleb probably didn't even realize he was flirting. He pieced together that you enjoyed the language, but didn't factor in that it was him speaking it that you enjoyed. So when he spoke to you, he used Zemnian more, making sure to substitute simple words so you can understand and maybe slowly pick it up too?
It would be Beau that brought up the "flirting" and how much you liked Caleb speaking in Zemnian that he truly realized. Beau's observation made Caleb speak Zemnian around you more. Not because he was being bold, he's still shy about his feelings, but he likes the look on your face when he speaks and wants to continue seeing you flustered.
Caleb ends up using many terms of endearment for you in Zemnian now. He would put them in now and then previously, but was too flustered to tell you what they meant. Now he decided he should say them more. Especially since you don't quite know what they mean.
Until one day he does let it slip that he loves you. He says this in Zemnian and he ends up freezing. Relief hits him as he realizes that you don't know what he means. Or at least he thinks you don't, but that one phrase was the one you had been waiting to hear from him.
Caleb doesn't even have time to process that your lips are on his before you've pulled away. He can't tell if his brain is moving way too fast or at a snails pace when you tell him, in near perfect Zemnian, that you love him too.
Omg!!! Could you do a Mighty Nein version of the Can I Kiss you prompts? They were so cute omggg
Ahhh thank you lovely! All of my extra soft headcanons (kisses and nicknames) seem to go down well with my readers. It's an opportunity for me to be all soft and gooey and sappy <3

"Can I Kiss You?"
-> alt title: how the Mighty Nein would react to you asking for a kiss
Beau đ
It's my charming and good natured personality, isn't it?
All the babes fall for it sooner or later.
The words come out before she can even process your question properly. It's said with crossed arms over her chest, her voice dripping with sarcasm. And then her expression seems to melt, and she realises you're being serious.
Even now, Beau is deflecting. She's putting on the bravado and confidence that comes so easily to her after years of use, even though she feels like she should be bouncing off the walls rejoicing because holy shit you want to kiss her. Kiss. Her. Like, right now.
Smooths back her hair and puckers her mouth into an attempted smolder, in turn making you chuckle, and she decides right then and there that's her new favourite sound. She ditches the arrogant smirk and holds the back of your neck, leaning in and set on finding out what other sounds you're capable of making.

Caleb đ
If I kiss you, I-I don't think I'll be able to go back to the way things used to be between us. I can't simply stop wanting you this way, I won't.
I want you to be... mine. But do not doubt that I already am anything else but yours.
He's so incredibly tender. Hands shaking at his sides before a wave of courage washes over him. He swallows his fear and cups your face when he confesses how much you make him burn. He wants this kiss to mean something. He wants to mean something to you.
Caleb dares the risk of glancing down at your mouth, his own tongue peeking out to wet his bottom lip in the midst of his rant. His face feels aflame, flustered, but when you coo his name his gaze snaps back up to meet yours. You say it again, fond and warm, because you don't want to go back to simply being friends either. The feeling is mutual.
He breathes in relief, and eventually he feels his cheeks ache with how wide his smile grows. It's a real one, smiling with his eyes as well as they shine, glazed over with emotion - a true expression of happiness, something that has been so rare and precious to you in recent months. His nose bumps with yours and he manages to huff a lighthearted laugh. You hold him close with no intention on letting him go anytime soon.
-
Fjord đ
I suppose it'd be incredibly ungentlemanly of me to refuse such a... lovely request.
Just, uh, if the tusks bother you -
Definitely caught off guard, not expecting you to be so forward with the request. Indeed, you both were in the middle of sharing a very romantic moment, holding gazes as if the other person hung the stars and moons in the sky, but he's still surprised nonetheless.
His face feels like it's on fire, but Fjord's words are tempered, all cool, chill and sharp like the falchion. His natural charisma hides the fact that his heart is doing somersaults and thundering in his chest.
The self consciousness that he's so intent on healing from nestles itself into his mind - he knows you like him, and hopefully one day love him if he's lucky, but that niggling voice in the back of his head resurfaces and prods at his orcish heritage. But you're there to soothe those thoughts, placing a finger over his lips, hushing him. Tusks or no, the sailor's life is for you. And you intend to spend it with him.
-
Jester đ
Ha! I knew you were in love with me! Pffft.
Why... why are you looking at me like that? You were joking, right?
Right?
She sucks in a breath when you pinch her chin between your thumb and finger, her own hand coming up to hold your wrist in place. She fears that you might step away from her and pretend this moment never happened.
To ease her worry, you wrap your other arm around her waist, the fabric of her skirts swaying slightly when she steps the tiniest bit closer, closing that miniscule gap. In that moment she feels like a princess in the stories she's grown up with. Stories of true love's kisses and happily ever afters. Even in a world so unpredictable and dangerous, she might just have found hers.
She's beautiful up close, soft and malleable and gazing up at you with round eyes and thick lashes. You can make out the freckles dusted across her nose, the apple of her cheeks holding back a delighted smile. The tilt of her head as her eyes flutter closed when you lean in.
-
Molly đ
Oh? Someone's being a bit demanding, aren't they? At least buy me dinner first!
But, since you asked so nicely... I won't object to a small one~
Oh nooo, you've just stroked his ego immensely. He jerks his chin, completely blanking for a split second, processing your question, and then that sly, slow grin graces his mouth. That damn beautiful, smug, kissable mouth.
He holds your face close to his, biting his bottom lip, gentle and teasing as his gaze rakes over you, leaving your face warm but mirroring his pleased expression. There's an anticipating buzz in the air between you, a cocky lift of his brow that just screams "Well? Go on then."
Spoiler alert, the kiss is not going to be a small one. It will be anything but simple and short lived. The complete opposite, in fact. You see the glint of mischief sparkling in Molly's crimson eyes, and it overwhelms you with such a powerful yearning that you can't wait any longer. You can't endure any more teasing. You fist the front of his coat and pull him close, and he's more than willing.
-
Yasha đ
You are asking permission to do something I've wanted for so long.
Please don't keep me waiting any longer.
Her mouth parts slightly at your words, a small line between her furrowed brows when she turns to look at you. She wants nothing but to be delicate and soft and loving when caring for you. To have the feelings be reciprocated so naturally basically has her emotionally perplexed for a moment.
Yasha reaches out to take your hands in her own, and the barbarian is so gentle even with the callouses and hard edges, treating you as if you're as fragile as glass and will shatter should the wind pick up ever so slightly. But you know if that were the case, she'd dedicate her time to pick up the pieces and put you back together.
Her heart is on her sleeve when she confesses. She wants this, wants you - tomorrow and the consequences of being emotionally vulnerable can wait. She cranes her neck, her forehead brushing with yours, the corners of her mouth pointing upwards. She feels at home.

After-Battle Surprise Smooch ft. Kingsley and Essek
Beau đ
She's panting as if the ambush the party just experienced was nothing more than a heavy workout, and she's attempting to brush away the stray flyaways of hair that cling to her forehead. There's a slight flush to Beau's cheeks, her heartbeat is racing - and yours is too. You swallow heavily and step into her space, and tug on her robes to gain her attention. She offers a scratchy "Yeah?" before you take a leap of faith and make a move.
The moment your mouth connects with hers, she turns as stiff as a board for a hot second. All lean muscle and calloused edges, the softness of your gesture has her tensing up while her brain buffers in a post-fight haze. You sigh through your nose, hand cupping her cheek as you lean back and grin and she blinks at you owlishly before returning it easily.
She ducks forward, her hands skirting the edges of your coat back to tuck her fingertips under the hem of your shirt, attempting to steal some of your warmth for herself. It's grounding. She kisses your temple, breathes against your cheek as her eyes slide shut. She allows herself a laugh when you suggest she pay more attention to your lips.
-
Caleb đ
The wizard is propped up against a pillar of the temple the Nein had come across, and in the distance he can still hear (and smell) the sizzling remains of the evil cult members he had to take down with a fire spell minutes prior. He sniffs and wipes the dribble of blood from his nose with the back of his palm as you settle down on the ground at his side. It's gotten easier, facing the aftermath of fights ever since you came into his life. Your joints ache and your heart still is thumping in your chest, body still on high alert even though it's all over. He looks at you, concern in his blue eyes, and Caleb must also share the anticipation, meeting you in the middle for a kiss.
You pinch his chin between your fingers and tilt his head to the side, and then they slide into his hair just as his body completely melts into you. It's not a frantic kiss, not rushed nor explosive. But it is practiced and passionate, languid and drawn out as he follows your lead.
The man has the audacity to whimper into your mouth when your fingers tease and tangle themselves into the hair at the nape of his neck. You would have happily sat there kissing your wizard instead of taking a well earned long rest, but eventually he winces and draws back. You're both still in recovery mode, still injured and weak - you both know this. He gives you a small smile and kisses your cheek, mumbles something soft against your skin.
-
Fjord đ
The party barely manages to escape the crumbling ruin after defeating the necromancer, and the sunlight is blinding when you reach the surface. Shaken, you quickly wrap your arms around Fjord's middle, seeking some sort of familiarity after all you had faced together. He freezes. You can't help but feel a little rejected and embarrassed when the kiss is cut short as he places a gentle but firm hand on your chest and leans back.
He's panting, remnants of the fear he experienced nearly dying at your side in the battle lingering still. He settles for holding your hand in his, pressing your knuckles to his lips with his eyes tightly shut. It's not your fault that the situation was a bit overwhelming. Being swept up in theatrics after encountering malevolent spirits had Fjord in a slight panic when you moved to kiss him. But it's okay now. You're both safe.
When his heart has a moment to slow and his eyes start to focus, you quickly become the most important thing in his vision. As quick as he's pushed you away, his hand moves to cradle the back of your head and he's pouring every ounce of himself into a proper kiss. He's so warm, his frame completely shielding you from the rest of the world. He mutters an apology into the miniscule gap between your faces, immediately closing the distance after for another.
-
Jester đ
You're shaken out of your battle rage by an incredibly exaggerated and disgusted retch from behind you. You turn only to find Jester standing behind you with a scowl, lifting one leg to closely examine her boot. To her dismay, it's completely covered in giant spider remains. She wrinkles her nose at the sight, more annoyed than angry, grumbling about how she wouldn't have worn her new shoes if she'd known the party would be fighting giant spiders while out exploring.
With the way your blood is still fiery in your veins, and your dear tiefling's face is sulking endearingly, how can you not sweep her off her feet? You soften her mood immediately with a kiss. She goes up on her tippy toes, leaning into you enough that she's barely even making contact with the ground. Laughs into your mouth, and you can feel the upturn of her lips against your own.
She pulls away, tenderly reaches out to wipe at the shine of your mouth that she left behind. With a waggle of her eyebrows, she beams at you, says something clumsy and crude that makes you laugh. Squeals if you happen to lift her, spin just a little to ease the after-battle tensions, and she holds onto your shoulders with a vice grip - as if you'd ever drop her. She knows you love her too, especially considering she's covered in spider bits.
-
Molly đ
The tiefling has the biggest toothy grin when you find him after the fight, his smile slightly faltering at the edges when he sees your stormy expression and stomp in your step as you get closer. Mollymauk is nursing a cut made on his arm from earlier, one of his own to ignite his bloodhunter powers, but it's also one that also nearly cost him his life. He's so incredibly careless sometimes, but you know it's because he cares so much - about his second chance at life, about the party, about you. He prepares himself to be scolded by you but is pleasantly surprised when you cup his face so delicately and give him the softest look, brushing your lips against his.
The best way to describe the kiss is that he takes his time, as if he desires to taste and savour you while he still has you. He is so gentle, almost lazy with the motion of it, even though it's after such an intense fight. His nose bumps yours briefly, and he's practically purring by the time one of your hands weaves itself into his hair.
But he's selfish, greedy too, and though your lungs cry out for oxygen you can't bring yourself to leave him wanting. A cheeky hand trails down your waist, past your hip until he can get a handful of your outer thigh. He gives a playful but comforting squeeze, a little and innocent thing compared to the way he's ravishing your mouth.
-
Yasha đ
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Her worried voice over the dissolving battle carries a tenderness that greatly contrasts the heavy sword she carries. You quickly clamber over debris when you spot her, a deeply emotional urge to just be close to your barbarian that began as kindling is now a roaring need. Your foot catches on the edge of an abandoned cart and gravity suddenly pulls you down.
Yasha reaches you and, having dropped her weapon, swoops just in time to keep you upright and unharmed. She's your constant balance, what keeps you grounded. By pure instincts alone, you thank her by crashing your mouth into hers. Your arms wind around her neck and your body is buzzing all over, electricity flitting along your skin and through your veins. Her eyelashes kiss in the corners of her eyes when she closes them, strong hands lovingly caress along your shoulder blades. Your mind, love-addled, barely registers the way her thumbs stroke back and forth there.
She lifts you a little bit, just enough that she supports your weight and your tippy toes are grazing the earth. She makes a noise in the back of her throat and breaks the kiss, her hair a little bit frazzled. "Well... that answers that. Heh."
-
BONUS: Kingsley đ
It's pouring rain, storm clouds have engulfed the sky. You stand, soaked to the bone with your overcoat torn to shreds, over one of the many (now deceased) sea monsters that managed to scramble onboard the ship and attack you all. A victorious cry comes from the helm, and Kingsley victoriously lifts his sword high above his head as the crew cheer. He sees you amongst the fray and charges straight to you, about to assess you for wounds but it's hard for words to form when your mouth captures his.
So fucking eager. He wants to wrap himself around you, surround you, instinctively curling an arm around your back to keep you anchored to him. He's still so new to the world, new in general, but this - you - are so easy for him to adapt to. The kiss itself does not last as long as you would want, but he makes up for it with hasty and almost desperate smaller kisses to your cheek and jawline. It feels as though he's trying to imprint these fleeting touches into your skin, moulding into you, little memories of a moment of calm after the storm.
Kingsley holds you close to his body after that, cradling you into him while his eyes dart around the scene of battle with his chin perched on your shoulder protectively. His hair is matted and sopping wet and tickles your face, the buttons of his coat scrape harshly against your thin shirt, and you catch a glimpse of some of the crew averting their eyes - but you couldn't care less. Kingsley is living and breathing and here and yours.
-
BONUS: Essek đ
This poor man. He's still getting used to the intensity of physical fights rather than diplomatic ones. His feet hit the ground and he stumbles to balance himself before you hold him by the elbow to steady him. His smile is wobbly, cocky but wobbles slightly as he thanks you. His white hair stands in all sorts of angles and there's a small cut above his brow, and you know it seems impossible but it post-battle Essek just does something to you and he has no time to react when you grip his collar and tug him towards you.
You quickly find he's just as desperate as yourself. His hands find your waist and smooth towards your back, fingertips pressed into the skin there and accidentally treading upon and brushing against bruises in the process of forming. You wince and he breaks the kiss, immediately concerned and hesitant, his touch turning gentle when he settles his hold on your hips instead.
You assure him you're okay, but he's not having it. He decides to go slow now, peppering small, lingering kisses to your face before he steps back and adjusts how his robes sit upon his shoulders. He looks cool and composed, and you want to hate him for it when you yourself feel so disheveled. Don't worry though - you'll get even with him later.
With all the things Caleb has gone through, he's pretty touch starved too. But he's also awkward and doesn't know how to express physical affection without seeming a bit weird about it.
Caleb tries to remember how things had been when he was with Astrid and Wulf to hopefully ease you into hand holding or something.
So it'll be a bit of a learning curve for you both. Thankfully he's very patient, especially when it comes to you.
Fjord
He's pretty shy when it comes to touching, but with you being so touch starved, he'll try to help you out.
Doesn't want to overwhelm you so he's asking permission for everything. He's not touching you unless you give consent.
Fjord apologizes if he ever brushes against you. It feels nice for him, but again he wants you to be comfortable so even if it's an accident, he's going to apologize.
Essek
Essek is more sly with his touches. He'll brush his hand against yours or go to remove something that got on your clothes, but that's about it.
He doesn't want to overwhelm you, so it really is gentle touches from him. It could be seen as teasing, but that's not his intent - at least, not every time.
You'd have to ask him for cuddles and even then he might have to take time out of his schedule of messing with magic. But he'll do it for you.
Molly
He tries to be more gentle at finding out that you're touch starved. Molly likes to throw his arms around people to hold them close, but he doesn't want to overstimulate you.
There have been moments when he just wants to throw himself on you, but stops himself at the last moment. It's caused some interesting balancing issues and him apologizing if he does fall against you.
That said, he is happy to hold you and cuddle if you give him the go ahead. As long as he has permission, he'll gladly smother you in affection.
Hello! I was wondering if you could write a Mighty Nein version of the hiding in the alley together Bell's hells scenario you wrote? I really loved your Bell's hells one! Thanks!
Thank you darling! I love that post so much too đ„°
Bell's Hells version đ
Tight Squeeze (hiding in an alley together)
Beau đ
You're standing on her toes, and her elbow is poking harshly into your side, and you both just don't know where to look. "Sorry, I'll scoot over a little bit-" "No, wait, hang on a sec-" Awkward scrambling ensues. You whisper and try to convince her to put up with the closeness until you guys are safe, but she. Just. Won't. Listen. Eventually, her squirming has you both off centre and reaching for each other for balance, and she murmurs a quiet: "... oh."
Beau isn't a romantic, never has been, and she's never really gazed into someone's eyes as purposefully as she is right now. You're fucking gorgeous. How has she never stopped to just look at you before? Have you always been so... You blink in confusion as she seems to soften, ever so slightly, calming down enough to breathe in sync with you.
You feel a palm drag itself up your arm, up, up, up until she finally cradles your jaw. And you both stand there, unmoving, for who knows how long, before she eventually tears herself away from you and the alley with a grumble. You take a moment to recover from the intense look in her eye, running after Beau only when she calls your name to hurry up.
-
Caleb đ
His mouth is puckered in a tight frown as he looks anywhere but your face. It's an incredibly tight squeeze where you've found yourselves, so narrow that you're effectively pinning the wizard to the wall behind him. Your palms rest flat at either side of his neck and his hands have curled into little fists between your chests. Your heartbeat is thundering in your ears - or maybe it's Caleb's - you're not quite sure whose it is when you're this close together.
It's incredibly quiet. Awkward, even. So you say something. Anything. A stupid comment on how this is like a cheesy scene in one of the awful smutty books that's been passed around the group, and he can't help but huff a laugh and try to hold back an amused smile. His shoulders relax and he rests his head against the wall to finally get a better look at you, and something makes you lean your head towards him, following his lead. His lips part slightly as you move closer and-
Nott/Veth calling both your names from outside the alley jerks your faces apart, and Caleb very hurriedly inches away from you. "We should, ah..." He reluctantly shuffles towards the road, adjusts unkempt hair and smooths down the front of his coat, fingers twisting the buttons shyly. "W-we should go join the others, ja?" His heart sings at the simple touch of you linking pinkies with him. It's a quiet message he doesn't need to worry about deciphering.
-
Fjord đ
"Beggin' your pardon." You can't help but snort. Even in times of peril, in situations where you're taking cover from the intense fighting outside of alleyways, Fjord still manages to treat you well and act the perfect gentleman. He shushes you, smiling himself, and it briefly feels like you're the only two people in the world - except for those in the battle mere feet away from your hiding spot.
His eyes soften as you share a secret grin with him, but not in the way you'd like. He clears his throat, peeks out of the gap of the alley."Look, I know this isn't an ideal situation but..." You say his name sweetly, urge him to look up from the ground to meet your gaze, and you see colour quickly spread across his neck in embarrassment. He swallows thickly and looks away, and breathes out the quietest shuddering sigh.
A hesitant hand reaches out for yours, and you grip it tight before he can regret taking the leap. The rest of the Nein find you both in that same position minutes later once the battle had officially ended and it was safe to leave, all tangled fingers and soft gazes. Fjord never wants to let go.
-
Jester đ
"Are you gonna kiss me?" She's a little cross eyed, a little flushed and out of breath, and so so pretty this close up. Her eyes flick between your own, both your noses just barely grazing. "It feels like now would be a good time to kiss me." And it does.
But the moment is ruined when a swarm of soldiers charges right by the alley's entrance, and Jester lunges forward to hug you close. Together you find yourselves huddled further in the shadows while the enemy runs right by your hiding spot. She's so soft in your arms, perfect - it's like she belongs there - and you want to tell her that, but saying so out loud would easily blow your cover. So you settle for keeping her close, a hand in her hair while she ducks her head under your chin.
You wait until the last soldier has gone before you reluctantly remove yourself from the tiefling (who visibly pouts) and peek outside the alley. Once the coast is clear, you look over your shoulder, only to find Jester already looping arms with you. She smiles, this time confidently, and you enter daylight once more with no mention of the almost-kiss.
-
Mollymauk đ
He doesn't say a word. Which, y'know, is ideal when skulking about in an abandoned alley, away from prying eyes of spies and mercenaries - but the way how Mollymauk is not-so-subtly glancing your way every few seconds is awfully distracting. You lightly push against his chest, tell him in a hushed voice to stop smirking so much, that this is a very serious situation. "What? Can I not look at you now? Can I not enjoy the little things while we fear for our lives? Who knows when I'll see something so lovely again~"
You push him again, a little more forcefully this time, and he actually barks a laugh, sways back to you and tilts his head with sticky fondness. There's a sudden commotion nearby - heavily armoured folk who suddenly look in the direction of the sound and touch their weapons suspiciously. Quick thinking in the moment has you press your body closely to Molly's, making your forms fit within shadow, and cover his mouth with your hand.
And he's silent again, but his expression has changed. He never looks away from you, nor you him, both of you holding breaths in anticipation - of being discovered, or of something more passionate, you are not completely sure - but the moment is never interrupted. When all is safe and sound once more after the hired fighters evacuate the nearby area, he slowly peels your hand away and presses a single, simple touch of his lips to your palm. It's barely even a kiss, but you don't mind. It's nothing. It's something. It's a promise.

Yasha đ
She's... Well, you already knew that she was tall before this, but you never really knew exactly how tall Yasha was until you were up against each other in a tiny alleyway in some fancy town neither of you know the name of. It's a small space, and there are hired thugs sniffing around town looking for you and the Nein, but you feel so safe with the barbarian - a protective barrier between you and the rest of the world. Your face warms at the thought.
She peers down at you with a blank expression, and you expect awkward silence, but she surprises you with: "Well this is quite cosy, isn't it?" It's dark in the alley, but she can see the wrinkles by your eyes when you smile at her. Good. That'll ease the tension immensely... And the slightly nervous pitter patter of her heart.
Despite it all, she's a little flustered being so close to you. It's weirdly intimate caging you in, and she curses under her breath quietly when you look away bashfully and bite your lip with a grin. She's obviously done something right when you gently rest a hand on her arm and ease her wandering mind. She still feels that touch hours after, and wonders if you're thinking of it too.

Kingsley đ
You don't want to admit it, but you're panicking. What started off as a cheeky side quest quickly spiralled into a catastrophe, and you now find yourself in a claustrophobic space with bad guys on your tails, and you have grazed knees after tripping earlier and you're stuck with your most charming friend who looks at you like he loves you, and it's all too much, and- "Hey, keep your eyes on me."
Kingsley is holding your face in his hands, and you can barely make out his crimson eyes in the dark, but you know he's giving you that look again. "We're gonna be fine, we're gonna get out of this. I'll buy you a drink later, you'll see." You want to believe him, even as your heart drums loudly in your chest, leftover adrenaline dulling in your veins. You follow his lead, breathe in, and breathe out as you move to hold the wrists of his hand that are cupping your face still. You find calm, and he looks proud. Maybe it's only a shadow of an expression in the dark though.
Instead of leading you back towards the ship, Kingsley takes you by the hand and dances around the crowded marketplace towards a quiet tavern on the outskirts of town. He reaches out and holds the door open for you, and grins when you look puzzled."I owe you a drink, remember?"
I just wanna pull uniformed Bucky in by his tie and kiss his stupid face with his stupid tilted hat. Is that such a huge ask?? Cmon LOOK at that face
Imagine you're barefoot stepping on his shoes because he kept telling you to get closer until he could wrap his arms around you. You push the side of his hat down with a laugh.
Then he looks at you.
Really looks at you.
As if he were seeing the entire world for the first time.
His lips move but you don't hear a thing.
You feel his heart beating or is it yours?
Who knows?
His bottom lip is tucked between his teeth, the moonlight catching the flash of pearly whites.
He wants to be your first kiss, first everything. You'll be his first love. His only love.
But first he has to ask you for the one thing he's been thinking about all night in between trying to win you a stuffed bear and feeding you treats.
Hes afraid to ruin the moment by going to fast, but doll hes never wanted anyone the way he wants you. His eyes never waver from your face, even when you drop your gaze.
He's patient, allowing you to think about what you want.
Then you grab his tie.
You tug.
Softly at first, he barely feels the pressure. So you look up at him and pull again. "Kiss me James."
You don't have to ask him twice, something tells him he's going to be addicted to you. You're the poison and remedy all in one. His lips descend, the brim of his hat knocked askew.
"I want you to know, once I kiss you, I'm never going to want to do anything else for the rest my life." He murmurs against your lips. "Not a single thing."
"Promise."
When his lips move over yours, unhurried at first, his hands cradling your head, the taste of cotton candy lingering on his tongue, the very one moving over yours, claiming you, tasting you, loving you. It's more than a kiss. He's giving himself to you as he takes more of you.
You know you're not going to want to do anything else either.
summary: morpheus is captured by roderick burgess, but is swiftly rescued by his wife
A/n: yeah ik, ik, i should be working on love game but hehe this was way too irresistible. basically a Love game au where morpheus treated you right and you save morpheus from his imprisonment at the height if burgessâ power. Think of this as what could have been is morpheus was a better husband from the beginning. gif not mine !!
Jessamy was your final warning that Roderick Burgess is not your normal opponent. He was such a ridiculously luck-favored individual that despite failing to capture Death, he had imprisoned the next best thing. He stole his tools, bringing him prosperity. The magician Burgess became renowned in the waking world, a man of miracles, blessed by the gods who created magic themselves, and- some say, has a demon locked in his basement.
You had tried to enter it once, thinking that you could just pop by and drag Dream from his cage, but someone had tipped Burgess to write runes around every entrance and exit in his house that weaken you and can ban you from entering, unless someone wanted you in. You have a strong hunch that they were the same person to warn the magician not to break the summoning circle, and enclose Dream inside a glass sphere.
You were with Jessamy, helping her dodge every bullet Burgess had tried to aim. It is through Jessamy that you finally get your first glance of the mansionâs inner lodgings, preening forward as Jessamy lights up a fire and hides in the corners of the mansion until, finally, you are greeted with the first sight of Dream in a year.
His unruly hair was the first thing you saw, before he slowly lifted his head up in hope. Morpheus is stripped bare, without his helm, ruby and pouch of sand. Without any robes. He looks at Jessamy with adoration. Wherever Dream the Endless goes, there will always be his loyal raven not too far behind. But there was a quick lift of his lips as he spots his bird- a private smile. That one is for you.
Though you were far, far away from Earth, you could hear the small clink Jessamyâs beak made as she frantically pecked on the glass orb that holds your husband. You watch in devastation how the hope in Morhpeusâ eyes faded away, replaced by a look of utter resignment. Still, he lifts his hand to touch his glass cage to his precious bird.Â
While in her head, you could feel Jessamyâs emotions, how she was as desperate as you to set her lord go, her utter relief at how she finally entered the house after months of trying, and her overwhelming fear that something was going to go wrong. You feel how Jessamy pushes and fails to push this lingering fear of death that she senses in the air, trying her best to focus on the glass, to keep pecking, and pecking until-
Until nothing.Â
You open your eyes with a start and mouth agape, grasping your sheets in freight as you feel a phantom pain at your back. You try to remember where you are as you get up from bed. You feet touches a lush red rug that stretches a little more after the bed ends, a floor with pristine marble walls that shimmer as you walk, and a mirror on your right that if you go through would take you to your own realm.
Home. This is where you are, home in the Dreaming, home to the private chamber you share with your husband, Dream. Dream, who is not here. Dream, who is in the waking world, held prisoner by some amateur magician who got lucky.
You know what you must do. You exit your room and walk towards his throne room in a hurry, up the stairs to his seat of power uninterrupted until you sense a quiet presence with you.
Lucienne is at the foot of the steps, looking at you in both sadness and fear as she spots your bow and quiver with your person, your trusted weapons that will aid you in whatever comes next.
âMy lady,â she starts, and her warm dark gaze falls on you as you stare at her eyes back. Somehow there is an entire conversation that was said in silence as you look at each other's gaze. You can hear her warnings, her hesitations on your leave, her worry on the slowly deteriorating state of the Dreaming. You can hear her attempts to persuade to stay, that perhaps Morpheus would free himself soon. In your ears, you can also hear your replies, your attempts to soothe her worry, your promises to come back. It is not lost to you that you may be repeating the exact same thing your husband said.Â
âSafe travels.â She says instead and you know you have gotten her blessing.
You slip into the waking world without a momentâs thought.

There are three facts you recite to yourself as you approach the Burgess Manor in all its splendor. First, there is a party tonight. The Burgess monarch seems to love these parties, having one at every month, each growing more extravagant than the last. There is a growing crowd of eager party goers hoping to catch a glimpse and the favor of the Burgess monarch. Two, thanks to the runes carved above every entrance of the house, you must be invited inside.
You walk towards the crowd in confidence, putting on a show to anyone who is looking. You glance to your right as you see yourself in the reflection of a car window- utterly gorgeous. Lips as red as the blood you will cry tonight, eyes as dark as sunless sky and your smile as deadly as your fury. Three, you are the most beautiful girl in the party.Â
Not that it matters, you think to yourself as you walk through the crowd who parts as you strut. They will all see who they want to see.
You catch a boy guarding the front door as he lets other guests in. You follow the line of people, before catching the arm of an unsuspecting man, halting him from entering the door.
âWha- oh. Oh, hello, may I help you?â His initial anger has immediately faded as he saw you, replaced by an infatuated grin. You squint your eyes when you realize he is not a reminder of his lady wife when he looks at you, but rather a girl from a whore house a couple of blocks from his home.
âI canât help but to notice you were unaccompanied on this lovely night,â you start, tugging his arm closer until you are hugging it. âI was wondering if I can keep you company tonightâŠ?â
The nameless man smiles easily. âWell, since you asked so nicely.â
You giggle in delight and the man leads you towards the door. As you passed by the carved runes of the door, you felt a wave of fatigue run over that almost made you stumble. The man you are thankfully does not notice, as his head was still in the clouds of scoring a woman so beautiful.Â
But despite his luck, the man quickly announces his leave as soon as he sees Roderick Burgess on a chair. He is more eager to save his dying company than to have the presence of Love themselves, it seems. You do not mind and laugh comfortingly as he mournfully apologizes as he takes his leave, giving you not one, but four longing glances as he approached his target. You do not mind. The nameless man had let you inside and led you to Roderick Burgess in less than five minutes. You would have considered blessing him if only he was faithful to his marriage.Â
You slink behind people, accepting a glass of champagne to blend in but never leaving your sights off the man who had imprisoned Dream. He is constantly surrounded by different people, some part of his household, but most were his fellow amateur magicians and cultists, eager to get his acquaintance. You wait until he is finally alone. He stands to walk, and you follow.Â
âAll that talking must be tiring.â You have heard that he has a lover already, a young blonde girl that is often seen hanging on his arms in these types of events. But the fact that you had not seen her yet tonight makes you optimistic. That and how you wear his old wifeâs face, the one that face that Randall inherited- its why he loved him the best, you know you have won. âIsnât it tiring?â
It takes a second for him to reply, too taken aback by a dead face. âIt is but a necessary evil of the powerful,â he says, offering you his arm. You happily accept and cling to it. âDo you drink, fair lady?âÂ
âI do, but I am not as fond of wine, sir.â You reply. You place your hand on his chest as a spur of red magic ignites out of your palms. You feel his heart and squeeze. âIâm afraid you must drink twice as much for the both of us tonight.â
Love me, love me, love me, your magic inside him chants.
Roderick Burgess smiles and laughs like a happy man, and you knew you spoke like his dead wife came to life. Despite his sins against Morpheus, you find comfort to at least provide him this brief fantasy. A humanâs grief has always hit you a hard, and you would have felt bad for exploiting his mourning if he did not have you husband locked under his house. You know what you must do.Â
You patiently wait with a smile getting harder to hide as the hours pass by. You watch as Roderick Burgess receives drink after drink, never declining a glass of wine that was offered. You wait until he is stumbling in his walk, until he needs you by his side to keep himself from falling.  Â
The party was long over when he was finished. All guests had retreated home, or had passed out in the living room. Roderick Burgess clings on your shoulder as he thinks you are leading him to his bedroom. He is too drunk to notice that you have not climbed the stairs, but rather down to the hallway, towards the door to his basement.
You halted at the door that Jessamy had previously entered. âWhat is behind this door, sir? Surely not another one of your living rooms?â
Roderick took a glance at the door and laughed. âA great failure,â he replies. âBut a blessing in disguise nonethelessh.â
His voice slurs and you smile. âImpossible. Failure does not know Roderick Burgess,â you say and he laughs even harder. âAfter all, they whisper of the demon you keep in your basement.â
He shrugs himself off your grip as he stumbles towards the door. âFailure? I know it well, girl. My son, gone. My wife-â he mournfully looks at you before quickly looking away out of grief or lust, you do not know. â-is dead. You think I do not know what you are doing? Youâre just like the rest of them! So hungry for power, so hungry for what I can give.â
You seethe. He cannot give anything. Every single blessing that was brought forth to his life was because of your husband's stolen tools.Â
âYou are jushh like the rest of âem,â he declares, his words getting louder and sloppier. âBut tonight, I shall show you, thanks to the wonderful company youâve given me tonight.â
You did not give him good company. Roderick had fun by himself drink after drink. You had merely waited.Â
He swings the basement doors open and enters and you follow quietly behind him like a silent shadow. There is a stone hallway that you go through before finally, you see your husbandâs sphere cage. At the sound of your voice, Morpheus lets out a small grin. His eyes were curious, head tilting in confusion on what you were doing down here. You make it a point not to look at him.
âHe is not a demon,â Roderick starts, walking to Dream. He stops before the summoning circle. âHe is Endless. More than a God, but less than Death.â Roderick turns to you and beckons you with his hand. You accept his hand gracefully, and Roderick leads you beside him. At the corner of your eye, you see Morpheus look at your conjoined palms. âI had tried to summon Death for my Randall. I got him instead,â he spits angrily.Â
âThen what does he do?â You ask, eyeing at the summoning circle. You see Dreamâs prison, but you do not know how to break it yet. You must be smart. âAnd this?â You ask, your foot gesturing to the runes written on the floor.Â
You were tugged back harshly before your foot could even touch the circle. âBreak that circle and he will kill you.â Roderick hissed in an angry breath. Morpheusâ eyes darken at Roderickâs grating action, but dared not to move.Â
âHe does not bargain,â Roderick starts, looking back at Morpheus and you take it as your cue to move back slowly. You feel your bow appear in your hands, strong and steady just like how you must be. There is already an arrow ready on it waiting for you. ânor does he show any sort of emotions.âÂ
You nock the arrow, keeping your eyes on the man. Before you, Morpheus eyes your weapon but keeps a passive face giving nothing away from your scheme.
âHe cannot do anything at all.â Roderick raises a hand and gestures for you without turning. âCome, love. Say hi. Donât be afraid, he cannot even speak.â
You look at Morpheus in the eye and raise your bow to Roderickâs head. âHello, Dream.â
Morpheus looks at you now with all the fondness in his eyes and the softest smile on his lips- the rare kind of look reserved for a selected few that you receive in bulk. âHello, wife.â
You could see Roderickâs confused frown reflected on the glass sphere before turning his head to you. As if in slow motion, you watch his eyes darken in fury and embarrassment as he realizes he has been tricked. He opens his mouth, but your arrow hits his head first. You watch as your arrow disappears as soon as it hits its mark, and you wait for Roderick Burgess to hit the floor before you scramble to the floor and erase as much of the summoning circle as you can. You frantically scrub every written symbol you can reach until there is a wide gap.
âMy Love,â Morpheus calls, halting your action. You turn to him, relishing to see him through your eyes. You raise your hand against the sphere and Dream does the same. So close and yet so far.Â
âI am sorry about Jessamy,â you whisper, guilt lacing every word. Your husband closes his eyes in pain, as if reliving the exact memory of his trusted bird dying in front of him. âWhat must I do?â You look around quickly. âMorpheus, we donât have much time and I- I am weakened here. There are runes, and if you want to get out you must do it now.â
âI cannot break this cage from the inside, my Love.â Dream says with the same resigned look on his face. âLeave me, if you must-â
âNo!â You shriek. âNo, please, Morpheus-â You look around again, searching for the room for anything that might help. There were two desks before the sphere, probably for the guards stationed around Dream, but you do not see any firearms. There is nothing strong enough to break his cage, until the thought finally dawns upon you.
âI must cry,â you realize.Â
You drop to the floor as soon as you say the words, squeezing your eyes shut as the familiar pain of your blood tears start streaming from your face. You have felt fire burn before, but nothing will ever compare to the poisonous magic your tears bring. Your head feels like it's frozen and on fire at the same time, but your eyes carry the most damage your tears bring, making them feel like a hot white pain. It is a burn, poison and freezing at the same time.
Despite your weakened state, you managed to clutch a single arrow out. You grip on it like it's your lifeline before putting itâs tip under your eye to catch your blood tears.Â
âLove, why must you weep for me?â Morpheus asks, kneeling down in his cage, trying his best to be as close as he could.Â
You try to laugh. âI have been deprived of my husband for almost a year, my lord,â you reply weakly, still bowing at your burning eyes. As soon as you know the arrow is coated fully with your blood tears, you halt crying and weakly nock the arrow immediately. âHe was taken from me.â
Morpheus, familiar to the power your blood tears hold, had backed away as far as he could in his glass cage. You waste no moment aiming your arrow towards the glass and shoot. The glass explodes with a loud boom that echoes across the room, shaking the basement and the house above you. Distantly, you hear screams above and you wonder if you had accidentally caused an earthquake. Your arrow makes you fly across the room, hitting the stone wall that you were behind before.
But all thoughts leave your head when a familiar touch holds your face gently. Morpheus is finally in front of you, his hands feeling so warm despite not being human. He looks at you with stars in his eyes and a smile of adoration on his mouth.
âBut crying pains you.â
You feel his thumb wipe your blood tears away, staining your cheeks even redder. âI would cry rivers of blood if it means having you back.â
You smile in his hands, eyes bloodshot and cheeks stained red. Morpheus has never seen you so beautiful. Slowly, he leans forward and gives you a kiss on your head before cradling your head again to look at you.Â
Your husband is not one to say his words aloud, but you heard thank you, Iâm sorry, and I love you through his kiss all the same.Â
âLet us go home,â you say, grasping his hand and kissing his palm.Â
âAs long as Dream of the Endless is with Love, his wife,â Morpheus starts. âHe is already home.â
The knife slices through the pumpkinâs flesh with a ripping sound as you move your wrist with sawing motions, the crisp autumn air caressing your cheeks. Itâs harder than youâd though, or probably the knife isnât sharp enough. It takes a while before the first triagngle-shaped piece of pumpkin falls to the wooden floorboards of your porch, and eye socket number one is complete.
âWhat are you doing with that vegetable?â, a familiar voice chimes up from behind, startling you enough to jump from the ground with the knifeâs blade at the ready, though Sylvie parries your swipe with her own golden dagger, a playful smirk tugging at her lips when she catches your wide-eyed gaze.
âSylvie!â, you call out, heart racing with the shock of her sudden appearance, âI could have hurt you!â

summary: Morpheus journeys to Hell to reclaim what is his...and his helm, he supposed. Lucifer is disgusted.
warning: mentions of bl o o d, slight accidental d a ddy k*nk tbh, no beta we die like jessamy.
a/n: also someone tell me why do I keep pairing Dream with unhinged women? lmao altho ngl this is giving brat tamer dream oopsie
âYou have recovered your helm, dear Morpheus, I wonder why you linger still?â Lucifer Morningstar was arguably one of the most beautiful beings in existence â their graceful countenance marred only by the transparent derision they held for the King of Dreams and Nightmares. Or daughter-stealer as they would often call him in the privacy of their chambers. âI guarantee you safe conduct. You are free to return to your realm and sort your affairs, Iâm certain there is much to do afterâŠa century, was it?â
Morpheus merely smiled, ever serene and somewhat nonchalant, âYou still yet possess another that which belongs to me.â He knew the result those words would bring, and he watched with slight amusement when black wings rippled with indignation. âI have also come to rectify that.â
âThe gall.â The words came in a snarl through trembling lips and gritted teeth, laced with pure venomous intent. How this grim and fatalistic cradle robber succeeded in charming Hellâs progeny, the apple of their eye, escapes Lucifer even to this day. Â âYou overstep, Dream lord. What you claim to be yours is beyond that even of the Endless.â For you were not a small existence to be trifled with, even if you were foolish enough to give your heart to one so beneath you.
With pursed lips, Morpheus looked on coldly, âDo you intend to keep me from her, Lightbringer?â He challenged with a raised brow, tilting his head slightly to the side. âI assure you that would be unwise.â
Lucifer considered the Endless, watched with scrutinizing eyes for any sign of deception. Any sign of a ruse to lead him to you. âAnd pray tell, Dream of the Endless, why that would be?â They allowed a hint of amusement to slip into their tone, mocking almost. As if anything in the universe could justify such a reunion.
âHas she fed as of late?â The certainty in which those words were delivered, and the accompanying smirk startled the Ruler of Hell. No, no you have not. Â You have refused all offerings and has secluded yourself in your palace, alone. This has baffled your progenitor to near madness for almost a centuryâ
Morpheus watched the realization dawn on their face, his own smile widening at the very sight of it. One does not simply elude a child of the All-Mighty and to do so successfully was a high on its own. He shouldnât enjoy it too much â especially when he intends to make a family out of Lucifer Morningstar yet. âWell, Lightbringer?â He mocked.
âWhat does that have to do you with you?â Gone were all false courtesies, replaced with such coldness it could very well freeze Hell over.
Morpheus dropped his smile then, features shifting to that of great solemnity, âWe each took a vow. I pledged to surrender to her mercy, and she pledged to feed no more on innocent blood.â The explanation was simple, too simple, Â but true, âIt seems she has kept her word.â There was pride in his voice as well as affection, proud for what you have endured to keep your oath. He intends to keep his.
Lucifer couldnât decide whether to rage at the fact that you have entered such a covenant or at the fact that you have not disclosed your hold over the King of Dreams and Nightmares to them. Foolish child. If only they did not adore you so. âYou will right this, Morpheus.â They commanded in a tone that brokered no argument.
Dream of the Endless, accompanied by Lucifer themselves, followed the black marbled floors and cavernous walls of your palace. A quick glance through one of the lancet windows dotted along on either side of him showed the familiar sight of the eternal night of your realm with the moon perpetually high and full in the midnight skies. At the end of this coiling halls was what seemed to be an ordinary wall adorned with a stained glass depicting the fable of Lilith, the rebellious first wife of Adam. How very fitting for you, indeed. He took a moment to ponder over an image of you as a rebellious wife and couldnât stop the smile curling his lips. He was certain you would fight him tooth and nail over anything simply for the thrill of fighting him.
Lucifer to his side, however, could only roll their eyes at the Endlessâ soft countenance. They didnât need to be a mind reader to know his thoughts. âMake no mistake, Morpheus. You are here to end this juvenile accord with my daughter.â
Morpheus refused to acknowledge the warning and merely kept his eyes forward as they came to a stop before the decorated wall.
âSanguis vita est.â As the commanding voice of the fallen divine filled the silent halls â a large, crystalized serpent rose from the marbled floors and slithered its way along the stained glass to form an arch and reveal an intricate set of doors that towered above them.
âI tire of your offerings, your grace.â Came a hoarse voice from behind the doors, dry and strained, before either could make their presence known.
Lucifer let out a resigned sigh at your usual display of indomitable will. It would have been admirable if they werenât so anguished by your self-inflicted suffering.
Morpheus, on the other hand, felt himself freeze on the spot. There was a time when he thought he may never see you again and yet here you were with only a wall to impede your union. Without a word, he pushed open the doors to your chambers and allowed his eyes to wander â Â slowly taking in the high ceiling and the enormous rose window facing the four-poster bed against the wall with red velvet covers and fluffy pillows haphazardly thrown here and everywhere. His eyes rest on the black velvet chaise situated in the centre of the room where he found you on your back, head hanging over the edge and your tresses pooling on the floor like a river, blood shot eyes staring directly at him.
You let out a derisive laugh at the sight of your unwanted visitors, âThat,â You raised a finger to point at what looked to be identical to your lover, âis low, even for you.â
âThat,â Mimicked your progenitor, âis not my doing.â
Morpheus watched you rise and turn to prowl with practiced grace, âThe resemblanceâ is frightfully uncanny.â He noted the dark circles in the banks of your eyes, a stark contrast to the ghostly pallor of your complexion, but dare he say the way you purred could bring him to his knees. His eyes remained firmly on you as you leaned forward and audibly inhaled, moaning at the scent of him, âYou smell just like himââ He could see the conflict reflected in the glassy sheen of your eyes, dry lips parted slightly as though drinking him in as your hands reached hesitantly for his face, pausing just an inch away.
Then you wrenched yourself away, crashing against the furniture in your way until you felt the cold, hard wall pressed against your back. âLeave!â You roared, angry and pained, sliding down to the floor and pulling your knees against your chest, âTake your temptation with you! I have no want nor need for it!â
He never once doubted you, but to witness the decisive rejection of the chance to quench what Morpheus could only imagine to be immense hunger left him feeling the true weight of his absence. To witness you in this state, so far from the proud, preening princess of Hell â- there was no pride or boost to his ego, just an ever-present ache in his chest.
Lucifer merely looked weary, like a parent forced to endure their offspringâs childish outburst. A tantrum.
Morpheus turned to address the winged being beside him, âPerhaps you should give us a moment, Lightbringer.â
Lucifer looked ready to challenge him at first, but a look of consideration flashed on their features before they rolled their eyes and made to leave, though not without another warning, âDo not test my generosity, Morpheus.â
Dream reached inside the darkness of his robes and produced an ornate dagger, âYou have endured well, my stars.â He wrapped one hand around the blade while the other pulled the hilt in one swift motion, Endless ichor oozing and dripping from the wound. He dropped his hands to his side as he approached you, leaving a trail of his essence to drip behind him and fill the space with his scent, tempting you away from your defensive pose on the floor.
You recognized him then despite the haziness in your vision â his scent was singular, unlike any other, so much so you were willing to give up all and any but his. You longed to give in, to rush into his arms and devour him whole. A century, however, was not so easily forgotten.
Morpheus blinked only once before he felt himself thrown across the room, his neck held in a chokehold by a pale hand attached to his snarling lover, âYou abandoned me!â You cried, launching him once more to the furthest wall. âYou traitorous bastard!â His heart ached at the unadulterated hurt in your voice â though he didnât have to wait long before your entire countenance shifted back to raging fury. He watched you break a post off your bed and could only dodge when you hurled it at him. âH-How could youââ Angry tears broke through your defences, your hands clawing at the spot where your heart should be until the skin there was red and raw, âI-I waited for youâlike a fool! Youââ and in a small voice, vulnerable and broken, you whispered, ââyou never came for me.â
He murdered Roderick Burgess a hundred thousand times in his mindâs eye in that very moment, in the few seconds it took to watch you fall to your knees in utter devastation. His mortal death was not enough for this transgression -- he deserved the deepest, darkest parts of Hell that even Lucifer Morningstar themselves would not dare to thread.
Morpheus took slow, but sure, measured steps towards you, feeling his own eyes burning, âDo you truly believe I would forsake you so?â The pain betrayed the edge in his voice. ââthat my love and devotion to you are frivolous? That I did not ache and hunger for you also?â He was angry, frustrated, with you, with himself, even with fucking Destiny â him and his stupid book.
Dream hardened his heart at the face of your stubborn refusal to look at him â obstinate as ever, he would take comfort in that at least. âCease your childish tantrums. You have not fed for a century.â He pointed out coldly, retreating behind a callous exterior â a poor attempt, really, for the tender way he scooped you up into his arms soothed the sting of his words. He moved to sit down on the chaise you previously occupied and situated you on his lap so you would be straddling him, his arms tight around your waist. âWill you feed yourself or must I force you?â
You huffed petulantly, looking away momentarily before catching his gaze again just to blatantly roll your eyes. âI should have taken Desire up on their offer, Iâm certain theyâd quench my thirst well enoâ.â You yelped in surprise when his palm landed on your bottom while his other hand pulled the roots of your hair until it was your throat that was exposed to him.
âI should like to see you try, my stars. I would very much enjoy making them watch me claim what they will never have.â His words achieved their intended purpose when he heard you let out a breathy moan. âWill you behave?â He growled against your throat, purring when you whispered a submissive yes. âThereâs my princess.â He praised affectionately, releasing his hold on your hair to tenderly brush his fingers through them instead. Morpheus leaned back slightly, tilting his head to the side to present his neck to you.
Being this close to his warmth had your mouth quite literally watering, your insides clenching in anticipation for that first gulp. You leaned forward until the tip of your nose touched the tender flesh on his neck, ever so soft and unblemished. Your tongue darted out to blindly search for that special spot you knew would taste the sweetest, letting out a triumphant hum when you found it instinctively. You moaned his name, wanton and needy, before you bit down and ruptured the skin on his neck until you felt and tasted that thick, syrup-like substance.
He watched you curled over him, suckling softly at the wound while emitting a purr from the back of your throat. He may never admit it aloud, but he found you most beautiful in moments like these, when your hunger and desperation for him was at its highest. When you were so lost in his taste that you donât even notice the slight rocking motions you made against him while sat on his lap.
This has always been an intimate act between you both, either resulting in making love or was the result of making love. To experience it again after a century, when he once thought all hope was lost, was simply euphoric. Morpheus made no attempt to hide his arousal, tightening his grip around you as he sinks further into the chaise, eyes drifting close to savour this moment, this feeling. There would be time for explanations and apologies later.
Ever since last week, when you described bumblebee and her uncles: I can only imagine Bucky being surprised when his little toddler is an expert blackjack player
Only a few people are allowed to enter Buckyâs home office. His wife, his two best friends, and the little girl currently struggling to push the heavy door open.
Buckyâs been tied up with business calls all morning, dealing with the Thromberys. The Heir has been encroaching on his docks, shipments have gone missing, and Bucky is at his limit.
âYou tell that piece of sh-,â he cuts himself off, eyes sweeping to the door wavering open and shut.
A smile forms on his stern face as he watches her stick one tiny foot inside to keep the door from closing again. âYou need help, Bumblebee?â
âI got it,â she replies. âM okay.â
âIâll call you back and Stark, I want answers, not excuses.â He tosses the phone down, holding back a laugh. Bumblebee is pushing with her entire strength, letting out a tiny, frustrated grunt.
Youâre walking to the living room when you see your daughter fighting with the door, because you know she loves to do things herself, you casually push the top of it without breaking your stride. She stumbles through with a victorious scream.
âHi Daddy,â she huffs out, clutching her cards to her chest. âI been thinkin and I wanna puppy. And a pony-â
The door swings shut with a dull thud. You laugh, sending a quick text to Bucky. You better not.
âYou want a drink first?â Bucky places his elbows on his desk, his shoulders relaxing. He can handle anything life throws at him because he has the two of you.
âApple juice please.â She climbs on the chair and sets a deck of cards in front of him.
Bucky turns to the small bar behind his desk and grabs two glasses off the shelf, her favorite drinks lined up next to his expensive liquor.
Pouring her juice and his bourbon, he listens to her discuss all the animals she wants. She's making a very compelling case, her legs swinging back and forth, bright pink shoes not even close to touching the ground.
The only thing stopping him from getting her everything she wants is you.
He made his disconcertion very clear last night when you refused to let him buy a zoo for her birthday. Bucky still doesnât understand why you wonât let him do that one little thing for his favorite girl.
âBumblebee,â he says gently, handing her the small cup. âYou know we can't have all those animals in the house...,â he trails off at her pout.
Federal agents have interrogated Bucky and not once did he break but looking at the mini version of you, heâs not only breaking, heâs crumbling into pieces.
âIâll play you for em,â she offers with a hopeful grin.
Buckyâs eyes flit from the deck to her face. He grins, this he can handle.
âAlright, but when I win Iâll get you some ice cream and we can get as many toys as you want â He states, sighing in relief when she nods. âSo what do you want to play? Go fish?â
She lets out a giggle and shakes her head, his jaw dropping as she shuffles the deck. âBlackjack daddy.â
***
Bucky strolls to you with a chagrined expression. "You look stunning today Mylashka."
You simply look up at him. You've been expecting him after you heard Bumblebee's excited shrieks after she won the first hand and her puppy. And the pony. Followed by the kitten.
"I love you so much."
You raise a brow. Honestly youâre not mad, the more you think about it, the more you want a puppy too.Â
Bucky wraps his arms around you. "So much."
"One puppy and that's it."
He kisses your forehead. "In my defense, she did win. And a deals a deal Mylashka."Â
You were quite surprised yourself, when the words came out from your mouth and your mouth dried as you anxiously awaited his response. You were even more surprised when after a beat he answered, âyeah, yeah that would be lovely.â
Thatâs how you now found yourself sitting beside Steven on the couch, who refused to move from his spot.Â
âSteven come on, letâs head to bed,â you yawned tugging on his sleeve. âJust one more episode,â he said repeating the same words from earlier. You just nodded, turning your attention back to the screen before laying your head on his shoulder.Â
After that episode finished you again said, âokay now itâs time to go to bed,â you tugged at his sleeve.Â
âJust a little bit more.â
You tilted your head in question before bringing your hand up against his chest, at your sudden touch, you felt his heart beating fast.Â
âSteven I know youâre nervous but all weâre doing is sleeping,â you chuckle.Â
His eyes finally left the screen for the first time in a while, cheeks turning darker, âno, I know. Of course. But stillâŠâ his eyes strayed again, refusing contact, âItâs my first time even sleeping over another personâs house.â
âMe too.â He shifts to you curiosity peaked, âwell itâs my first time having a man sleep over.â
âI justâŠhave trouble sleeping at night,â he spaces his words carefully, âsometimes I sleep walk, you know? Iâm just worried about that.â
âHey,â you put a finger under his chin pulling his face towards you. âItâll be fine, okay?â You ask and staring into your eyes he knows itâll be alright. Thereâs nothing more he wants to do now than kiss you and he does. Slowly leaning in he captures your lips into his gently for a moment, then again before separating.Â
âOkay,â you repeat. Once getting confirmation you stand up and the warmth he felt beside him disappeared.Â
Outstretching your hands towards him you say, âcâmon.â He reaches up taking your hand and suddenly the warmth he feels from your hand travels throughout him as he follows you to the bedroom.Â
Guiding him through the room you drop onto your bed before scooting over and patting the empty space beside you. With a slightly tense smile he cautiously slides into the spot laying across from you.Â
Pulling the covers over you two, you both snuggle underneath the warm covers, holding hand in hand in the middle while you two are laying across from each other.Â
âSee itâs not so bad,â you said while he grinned back at you, nerves disappearing after looking into your eyes, âno, itâs quite nice.â You smiled back at him and palms warming each others you fell into a comfortable sleep.Â
Sam gave up on hiring a cab fifteen minutes ago and is walking to Buckyâs apartment, dotting out excuse mes and passing throughs every five seconds, trying not to squash the box heâs holding. Itâs like every time he comes to New York it gets more crowded.
His uniform is getting all sweaty and wrinkly, his tieâs all crooked. This is the first time in years heâs worn his formal Air Force attire and itâs going to look like he didnât even bother ironing it. Damn it, Bucky.Â
Itâs not like heâs required to wear it. The gala is not technically a government Gala, just Government funded, but itâs a charity event for war veterans and the dress code did say formal uniform on the invitation, he does not want to be disrespectful. Bucky huffed and puffed about how he does not need to wear it, because he has not been in the military for almost 80 years now, how the statute of limitations is up for him and he does not have his uniform anymore, anyway. Hence the running and the box.Â
Â
When he gets home, panting and sweaty, Bucky is not waiting for him dressed and ready to go like heâd hoped. Itâs okay, he was planning on getting Bucky out of that uniform anyway. Not in the way he wants to, no, just to get him in a different one
Â
âIn hereâ Bucky calls out from his bedroom. Heâs standing over his bed just in his boxers and an open shirt, showing off his perfectly sculpted body, not that Samâs looking. Buckyâs staring down at the brand new dress uniform the Army kindly sent over to him, laid out on the bed, his face scrunched up in an annoyed frown. âWhatâs up with the gold stripes? Iâm gonna look like a bumble beeâ he keeps staring at the uniform, like it will shred itself if he looks hard enough.Â
Â
âYou could never look like a bumble bee, they are cuteâ Sam tells him and moves further into the room to join forces with him to shred the uniform by just sheer force of determination. âA wasp maybe, a yellow jacket?â Bucky ignores his comment and picks up the jacket, holding it up in front of him, looking at it like it personally offended him.Â
Â
âI donât want to wear itâ he says for the hundredth time since the uniform arrived two days ago.Â
Â
âItâs the dress code, Buck, I'm wearing mine, so you have to wear yours,â Sam says, momentarily forgetting about the box in his hands and the tremendous effort it took to get it. âAnyways, forget about the wasp jacket, I, I um-â Sam stutters, suddenly bashful about the gift he got for Bucky, maybe itâs too much? Or maybe Bucky wonât even want to look at it. Fuck, he went through all the trouble, he has to at least try âI got you somethingâ he says, trying not to sound or look nervous as he offers the box to Bucky.Â
Â
âWhat is it?â Bucky asks, eyes wide and suspicious when he takes the box from Sam and puts it on the bed, on top of the dress pantsÂ
Â
âWhatâs the point of a surprise if I tell youâ Sam rolls his eyesÂ
Â
âOh, this is a surprise?â Bucky asks
Â
âJust open the damn thingâ Sam tells him, fingers twitching with nerves or anticipation, he canât be sure yet.Â
Â
Bucky carefully unwraps the brown paper from the box slowly, god, Sam wishes heâd just rip it. He frowns at Sam when he reads the address on the box Museo Degli Eroi Perduti, Salerno, Italia. He sets the paper aside and just as carefully opens the box, folding the tissue paper before setting it aside and revealing the content of the box. Bucky freezes for a second when he sees what's inside, Sam freezes with him, gnawing on his bottom lip anxiously.Â
Â
âIs this-?â Bucky interrupts himself in the middle of the questions, glancing back and forth between Sam and the boxÂ
Â
âThe originalâ Sam nods, watching as picks up the jacket and lays it out on the bed over his new uniform. Samâs bites down harder on his bottom lip. Bucky traces the olive green jacket, skimming his finger over the small gold bar on the lapel, âSgt. James B. Barnes, 107â engraved onto it. Bucky then goes back to inspect and take out the rest of the clothes in the box: shirt, tie, pants, hat, even the belt, all original from 1943.Â
Â
âHow did you get this?â Bucky asks him, looking at him with eyes full of shock and a little teary even. Sam shrugs, finally relaxing.Â
Â
âI pulled some strings. '' He pulled every string. He used up every government and non-government favor he had just to find and get this funny little uniform for Bucky. God, heâs got it bad. âWell, I'll leave you to it, hurry up and get dressed. Weâre gonna be lateâ he clasps his hands together and turn around to leave before he says something stupid, like i wanted to see Bucky Barnes from the history books, the one i was crushing on from middle school all the way to junior year of college.Â
Â
âSamâ Bucky calls out just as Samâs closing the door behind him. Sam turns around casually trying hard not to stare at Buckyâs exposed chest âthank youâ he smiles shortly before going back to his brand new old uniform.Â
Â
Sam busies himself with smoothing out his own uniform and when heâs done with that, he fluffs up and then smoothes down the whole of two pillows Bucky had thrown on his atrocious couch over and over again. Heâs trying real hard not to worry about what Bucky would think if he knew how much trouble Sam went through to get him the clothes. Maybe he does, maybe he figured out how Sam feels about him the moment he opened the box.Â
Â
Samâs smoothing out the pillows for the fifth time when Bucky comes out of his room dressed and ready to go. Heâs put on the whole outfit, it fits him perfectly, like a day has not passed since they took his picture in the uniform for the first time. Heâs even wearing the hat, placed on top of his head like a crown, a little crooked to the left.Â
Â
âHow do I look?â Bucky asks, spreading his hands to the sides bashfully.Â
Â
âYou look-â beautiful Sam bites his tongue not to say. But, God, he looks beautiful, the jacket perfectly tailored to his body, held in place by the belt. His pants are maybe a little more snug on the thighs than before, but it looks even better this way. Heâs still the same Bucky, in tac pants or 40âs army clothes, heâs still Bucky, but he still looks different, younger. It might be the olive green against his pale skin on the clean shaved face, but Sam feels like heâs looking at the picture of Bucky straight out of history books. â-ducky shincrackerâ Sam says and curses himself immediately.Â
Â
âThatâs not how you use it,â Bucky chuckles. He turns side to side, checking himself out while Samâs cheeks burn under his skin.Â
Â
âLetâs just goâ Sam mumbles, trying to get out of the house before Bucky notices how flushed he is.Â
Â
-
Â
Sam knew Bucky would look great in the uniform, he looks great in almost everything, even that bodage gear he calls uniform. Especially in that bondage gear. What Sam did not know is that Bucky would also feel great in the uniform. They have been at the gala for two hours now and Samâs seen him smile more than he ever has, he even cheered loudly for Sam when he was done with his speech. The speech during which Sam was staring at Bucky the whole time, because he would not stop smiling like a goof. Itâs like the uniform transformed Bucky into his former self. God, Sam wishes Steve was here to see it.Â
Â
Buckyâs even being friendly with Torress, the one person that gets on Buckyâs nerves more than Sam does. Joaquin just keeps smiling at him and nodding along with Bucky's war stories about barracks and dames and fellas in Europe. Joaquin looks equally as confused at Buckyâs mood, but he laughs with him anyway, just happy to be included.
Â
Samâs sitting on the table with the governor of New York, half-heartedly listening to his new clean-up plans for the city in case of another alien invasion, while trying not to blush as he keeps catching Bucky glancing at him sneakily. Heâs a little tired, heâs not the official host of the Gala, but his face was on the invitation and people keep coming up to him to congratulate him on the wonderful evening. Samâs exhausted and content, proud that he managed to make Bucky happy today.Â
Â
The official part of the gala is already over, so heâs ready to go home once the Governor's done speaking and leave the guests to dance and party when Bucky walks up to him, ignoring everyone else at the table to stand in front of him with his flesh hand outstretched towards Sam.Â
Â
âCan I have this dance, Cap?â Bucky asks. Sam blinks up at him, then down at his outstretched hand and back at his smirking face. Sam stares at Bucky, unmoving, not sure if heâs kidding or not. âCâmon, I just wanna dance with my captainâ Bucky gives him an exaggerated pout âdonât leave a poor sergeant hangingâ he wiggles his fingers at Sam and widens his eyes like a puppy dog. Fuck, Sam is a gone man.Â
Â
Sam shakes his head fondly at Buckyâs antics and takes his hand, lets grinning Bucky lead him to the dance floor. Sam thinks theyâll just have a silly little dance and go home, but soft jazz notes fill Samâs ears as they reach the middle of the floor. Sam knows this song, heâs pretty sure itâs Frank Sinatra. He glares at Bucky, but Buckyâs too busy smiling at the DJ, winking at her cheekily.Â
Â
âI Got a Crush on You, huh?â Sam says. Bucky just shrugs and wraps his vibranium fingers around Samâs hand, wrapping his other around his waistÂ
Â
âIt is a great songâ he says âonly the best for my captainâ with that he grips Sam tight and pulls him flush against him, hip to hip.Â
Â
âYou are a little shit, you know that?â Sam tells him, swaying with Bucky and the music.Â
Â
âSpare me, captain, Iâm just a lone sergeant, looking for a partner tonightâ he says and turns them around swiftly, nearly taking Samâs legs out of him.Â
Â
âWhatâs with all the titles, do you have an army kink or something? Authority kink?â Sam asks him, trying and failing to ignore Buckyâs hand clutching tightly around his waist. Bucky does not answer, instead he lets go of Samâs waist to twirl him. Sam does not swoon, whoever says so is a liar, Joaquin.Â
Â
âSay sugarâ Bucky says when he pulls Sam back, Bucky is absolutely leading this dance âare you rationed?â Sam blink at him confused, arching an eyebrow, surely Bucky is not asking about his diet. Bucky chuckles, leaning close to Samâs ear âI mean, are you going steady with anybody?â Sam tries not to flush too much, there is no denying it anymore, Bucky is most definitely flirting with him. Sam decides to play along.Â
Â
âOh no, sarge, my partner left me for a younger fellaâ he says, pouting mockingly at Bucky.Â
Â
âWhat a foolâ Bucky says âwho would dare to leave a dreamboat like youâ he says with a smile and pulls Sam even closer, his face is so close for a second Sam is sure Bucky is gonna kiss him in a room full of government officials and reporters. Bucky dips him instead, smiling down at him with a playful glint in his eyes. Sam stares at him with wide eyes, shocked for a moment before he remembers himself and pulls his body upright, back into Buckyâs arms.Â
âYâknowâ Bucky says in his ear âthe first time I wore this uniform, Steve and I went on a double date at Stark Expo and he ditched me in the middle of it.âÂ
Â
âMust have been quite a date with two ladiesâ Sam says, his mouth suddenly very dry. Heâs trying very hard not to imagine young Bucky Barnes sandwiched between two beautiful women.Â
Â
âThat was the day I kissed a boy for the first timeâ Bucky whispers, so close to his ear Sam can feel his lips move, sending a shiver down his spine. âTook the girls home, on my way home a fella asked me for a smokeâ he says, twirling Sam again. At this point Samâs given up, heâll go along with whatever Bucky decides to do. âI only had one left. He passed me the smoke right from his lips.â
Â
Bucky does not say anything else, neither does Sam. They sway together slowly as Sam attempts to make sense of the last few minutes in his head. The best he comes up with is that spirit of 27 years old Bucky Barnes has possessed his partner through the uniform.Â
Â
Bucky loosens his grip around Samâs waist as the song slows down around them, slowly coming to an end. Samâs not quite ready to let go yet. Buckyâs watching him with a glint in his eyes that Sam has never seen before, wordlessly telling him heâs not ready to let go either.Â
Â
âCare for a smoke, Sarge?â he asks, knowing damn well neither of them smoke anymore.Â
Â
âSure, but I only have one left,â Bucky says, batting his eyelashes at Sam innocently. Sam grins wide and squeezes Buckyâs hand harderÂ
Â
âI was hoping you would say thatâ he says with a hopeful smile and pulls Bucky towards the rooftop as subtly as he can.Â
Â
Turns out they were not being as subtle as he thought, if the newspapers were to believe the next day.Â
Warnings: this is long as shit, lot of swearing, some questionable stuff ngl, takes a while to get to stuff but trust me it's worth it, my usual bad writing, erik being a dick, reader not taking his shit, use of mutant abilities
Y/Nâs POV
Am I a civilized person? Of course, I am. Do I know how to properly handle my emotions? Absolutely, I am an adult after all. But this one motherfucker is enough to tear all that composer down. I hate to admit this, but that person is Erik Lehnsherr. To most of us, he helped save mutants. But to me, heâs a gigantic pain in the ass. He criticizes every little thing I do, even the simple things like making coffee. I just wish that someone would make him shut up, though hopefully, that person will be me one day.
As I walked into the conference room, there he stood, looking as smug as he always does. I greeted everyone â except for him â before sitting in my seat. âWhereâs Charles? Heâs usually not late to these meetings.â
âHe said he has to miss out on this one, unfortunately. He had to go meet with a potential studentâs parents, but he left me in charge. Letâs get started, shall we?â Raven said as she turned on the projector. The screen showed a man, probably in his mid 30âs walking down the street. âThis if Jefferson DaVis. For the most part, he seems normal, but there have been a few witness reports of strange things happening around him.â
âWhat kind of strange things?â Asked Erik.
âIt seems like heâs giving off some sort of electric field, so any interaction of his with something such as a TV causes a small fire,â Raven explained.
âThatâs really unfortunate,â Alex mumbled. âSo whatâs the mission?â
âWell DaVis is a couples therapist, so the only way to get him to talk to us is to have two of you pose as a couple and go to an appointment with him. Once in, youâll convince him to come here so we can properly train him on how to use his powers.â
âSounds easy. So, whoâs the unhappy couple?â I asked as I leaned back in my chair.
Raven hesitated for a moment, looking around the room before answering. âYou and Erik.â She mumbled softly.
âI beg your fucking pardon?â I said in shock, my eyes going as wide as the moon.
âIâm sorry, youâre going to have to repeat that for me. Are you saying I have to pretend to be in love with her?â Erik seethed as he pointed at me.
âGee, thanks for the compliment,â I said sarcastically.
âLook, I know you two hate each other for some odd reason, but that makes you perfect for this mission! I mean, you already argue like a couple, so why not put that to use? Come on guys, it wonât be that bad. You guys can stand each other for one mission, right?â Raven asked as she looked between the two of us.
I sighed, looking up at the ceiling. Why does it always have to be me? âFine, for this guyâs sake, Iâll do it. But he throws one insult my way, I will be throwing him out a fucking window. Got it?â I directed that last part towards Erik, looking him directly in the eye. He scoffed, rolling his eyes.
âHow classy of you.â He remarked.
â
Erikâs POV
This has quickly become my least favorite mission that Iâve been assigned to. Itâs bad enough that I had to travel to the middle of nowhere, but on top of that, I have to travel with the person I canât stand? Itâs ridiculous.
âAre you going to keep staring at me like you want to murder me or are you going to open the door like a gentleman?â Y/N asked as we stood outside of DaVisâ office.
âAre you trying to make this more difficult for me, or are you naturally a nuisance?â I asked as I opened the door. Y/N shrugged as she walked into the building.
âI donât know; do you enjoy purposefully being an ass or were you just born that way?â She asked with a quirked brow. How much longer am I going to have to suffer through being near her? I ignored her question and walked up to the receptionistâs desk.
âHello, my name is Erik Lehnsherr. We should have an appointment scheduled for a few minutes from now.â I explained to her. She nodded and typed something into her computer.
âAh, yes, here you are! Mr. and Mrs. Lehnsherr. Iâll let Dr. DaVis know that youâre here. You and your wife can have a seat right over there.â The receptionist pointed towards the waiting area before heading down the hallway.
Y/N was sitting on the couch, so I decided to sit as far away from her as possible in this tiny space. âDonât worry, I donât have cooties. Though you might want to get checked out.â She said from behind her magazine.
âReal mature,â I mumbled before looking towards the clock. If only I could make the time move faster. I thought as the hands slowly chased each other around. A few minutes later, the receptionist came back to collect us.
âSorry for the wait. If you two will just follow me.â She said politely as she gestured down the hallway.
Y/N and I got up, following her down the hallway. DaVis stood in front of his office, waiting to greet us. âHello Mr. and Mrs. Lehnsherr, itâs a pleasure to meet the two of. If the two of you could go ahead and take a seat, I need to have a quick word with my receptionist.â He said as we walked up to him. We both sat down in the chairs in front of the big wooden desk, giving each other a quick hateful glare.
DaVis quickly ended his conversation with the receptionist, closing the door and taking a seat at his desk. âSo what seems to be the problem with the two of youâs relationship?â He asked as he fixed his blazer.
âThereâs no problem, Dr..â Y/N quickly responded.
DaVis chuckled before leaning back in his chair slightly. âOh really? Because from what my receptionist told me, the two of you were arguing the moment you stepped into this building. Not only that, but the two of you sat on completely opposite sides of the room as if you were strangers. If I hadnât already talked to Mr. Xavier about why the two of you were hereââ
âIâm sorry, you talked to Charles?â I asked in confusion.
âWhy of course, heâs the one who set this meeting up after all. He told me that this was the only way to get the two of you to stop bickering and actually listen to each other.â DaVis explained.
âWait, so youâre telling me that we were set up? I canât believe this.â Y/N scoffed.
âMr. Xavier said that the two of you might respond poorly if you knew the truth, so he came up with a fake mission to get you down here.â
âSo you knew that we were here to offer you help?â I asked.
âI know that thatâs what you were told, but in fact, I donât your help. I have my powers very under control. Now letâs talk about the two of you. Why do you hate each other?â
There was a moment of silence before Y/N spoke up. âIâm not fucking doing this.â She stood up and rushed over to the door, jiggling the handle. âWhy wonât this stupid door open?â
âMy receptionist locked it from the outside. Sheâs been instructed not to open the door until I tell her to. Now sit down so we can get started, please.â
â
Y/Nâs POV
I canât believe Charles set me up like this. When I see him again, Iâm gonna give him a piece of my mind. I quietly sat back down in my seat, but I made sure that they both knew I wasnât happy about it.
âSo, Y/N, Erik, it seems that you two have a lot of problems with each other. What might those problems be?â DaVis asked once I had sat back down.
âWell frankly, I donât have a problem. I just prefer to associate myself with people who have a bit of⊠class.â Erik said, waving his hand around in the air as if he was thinking about what he was saying.
âOh, Iâm the one who doesnât have class? At least I donât turn my nose up at someone without even having properly gotten to know them. Unlike you, I prefer to make judgments about people after weâve had a conversation.â I said in disbelief.
âMaybe thatâs why no one likes you. The best way to form an opinion on someone is to judge them from the moment you see them. And when I saw you for the first time, well, letâs just say that I could already tell you were nothing but an immature child posing as an adult.â
âImmature?! Weâre the same age, Lehnsherr. God, I thought you were just a prick, but youâre straight up delusional. Yâknow, maybe thatâs whyââ
âEnough! Both of you! God, I thought Charles was exaggerating when he said you two go at each other like wild animals, but it appears as if he was right. Youâre both acting like children! How do you expect to have successful missions with each other if you canât go five seconds without hurling insults at each other?â DaVis yelled as he slammed a hand on the table.
âWell if she wasnât soââ Erik began.
âIf the next word out of your mouth is an insult I swear to god,â DaVis said as he glared at Erik. âLook, I understand that the two of you donât like each other for whatever reason, but you need to learn to be able to work together. There are plenty of people Iâve worked with in the past, but I never acted towards them the way that you two act towards each other. Now, weâre going to try some exercises I usually use with my clients, but they should still work for the two of you.â
âYou want us to do couple exercises? Unbelievable.â Erik said as he leaned back in his chair. DaVis gave him another glare before reaching into his desk and pulling out two sheets of paper and some pens.
âI want the two of you to write three nice things about each other on these pieces of paper. After youâre done, youâll turn so youâre facing each other and read off the things to each other.â He explained as he handed out the materials. âYou have five minutes. You may start now.â
â
âTimeâs up. Now, the two of you spin the chairs to face each other.â DaVis said once the timer went off. I mumbled something under my breath before reluctantly turning my chair around to face Erik, him doing the same. âErik, you start. Whatâs something you like about Y/N?â
âLetâs see,â Erik pretended to look down at his paper before continuing on. âI like the fact that she has no concern for the life of herself or others around her.â
âAre you calling me reckless? You do understand that the point of the exercise is for us to complement each other, not throw more insults, right?â From the corner of my eye, I could see DaVis put his face in his hands.
âThe two of you are unbelievable,â He murmured. âY/N, how about you? Whatâs something you like about Erik?â
âI think he has a great sense of style,â I said without looking at DaVis or Erik. This is a bad idea, I can feel it.
âGreat, weâre getting somewhere. Now, can you say that while looking directly at Erik?â DaVis said as he pointed towards the man in question.
âDo I have to? I mean I donât see the point in this wholeââ I cut myself off when I saw the look DaVis was giving me. I sighed, turning my head to face Erik. âI think that you have a great sense of style.â
âThank you. Yâknow, I could give you a couple of pointers so you donât continue to walk around looking like a toddler who dressed themself.â
âOh my god! This obviously isnât working, so letâs try something else. I think you two might like this exercise, as it focuses on the bad in your relationship. For this exercise, the two of you will switch roles. Y/N, you will pretend to be Erik and vice versa. Does that sound doable?â It was very obvious that DaVis was on his last straw, and to be honest, I donât blame him. If I had to listen to two people argue for an hour, I would be frustrated too.
âOk, this should be easy enough,â I mumbled.
âGreat! The exercise starts now. Whatever you need to get off your chest, go ahead and do so!â This is the bad feeling I was getting earlier. This is when everything goes to shit. âWhich one of you wants to start us off?â DaVis asked as he looked between the two of us.
âIâll go first,â I said, readjusting in my seat and clearing my throat. âHello, my name is Erik Lehnsherr and I am a massive asshole.â
âReally? Thatâs how youâre going to play this? Ok, fine. Iâll bite. Hello, Iâm Y/N, and I like to act as if the world revolves around me! Everything is always about me me me!â He said in a high-pitched voice.
âThe world doesnât revolve around you. Why would it revolve around someone with the smarts of a kindergartener? It revolves around me, the handsome, moody tall man that just stays in corners, silently judging everyone.â
âHandsome? Oh please, you wouldnât know what handsome was if it knocked on your front door.â
âOk, I think Iâve seen enough here. I think I know what the problem is.â DaVis interrupted.
âOh really? Youâve finally figured out that the problem is that Erik Lehnsherr is a dick? I couldâve told you that from the beginning!â I exclaimed in shock.
âNo, the problem is that the two of you are in love with each other, but neither of you is willing to admit it. Luckily, I just solved that problem for you. Now comes the next part, which is entirely up to the two of you. You can either ignore these feelings and keep going at each other like you are now, or you can sit and talk about your feelings. I prefer the latter, but again, this is entirely up to you.â DaVis said, but the way he said it made it clear that we didnât have a say in this. Man, this guy is good. No wonder Charles put him up to this.
âIâm sorry, you lost me when you tried to say that me and Y/N are in love with each other,â Erik said. DaVis quirked a brow before his eyes flashed yellow. âWhat are youââ
âTell the truth.â He said. His voice was distorted, and it had almost some sort of echo to it. What the fuck is going on here?
âTruth is that Iâm in love with Y/N. I have been since I first saw her, but I didnât know how to express my feelings so I thought that if I was mean to her she wouldnât want anything to do with me.â He blurted out.
âI feel like this is some sort of infringement on human rightsâ I mean itâs not right to justââ I began to ramble.
âNow you, Y/N. How do you feel about Erik?â DaVis said as he turned towards me. I tried to fight it off, but the command was too strong. It was as if his mind partially fused with mine to make sure that I would do as he said.
âI am in love with Erik. Have been for a while now, but I never said anything because he made it clear that he didnât like me. Iâve thought multiple times about confessing, but it never seemed like the right time,â I blurted. âOh my god, thatâs creepy.â
âPerfect! Now weâre getting somewhere. Ok, weâre going to have to wrap this up because I do have an actual married couple coming in in a few minutes. So what I am going to do, is let the two of you go into another room. And the two of you are going to sit and talk about your feelings. Is that understood?â DaVis asked as he looked between the two of us. We didnât say anything, just sat there in silence.
â
Erik and I sat in the small room, arms crossed over our chests and not saying a single word. It was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. This is so awkward. I cleared my throat before looking up at Erik. âSo, are we going to talk about what happened in there or are we just going to sit here forever?â
âI donât want to talk about it. Besides, none of that was true anyway. It was all mind control.â Erik said softly.
âReally? Because it didnât seem like it. Those words had to come from somewhere, and they sure as hell didnât come from DaVis. He doesnât peg me as a silent romantic type.â It may have been a bit harsh, but it needed to be said. The sooner he got whatever was stuck up his ass out, the sooner we could leave and go back to pretending the other doesnât exist.
âWhat do you want from me, exactly? Do you want me to say that I meant everything I said in there? Because guess what, I did! Do you want to know why Iâm so reluctant to show my emotions for you because Iâve never felt this way before! Is that what you wanted to hear?â Erik yelled. Well, that wasnât what I was expecting, but it certainly makes my part in this easier.
âLook Erik, I understand that this is all new to you, but itâs new to me too. Especially with someone like you, who is so adamant about being stone-cold down to the bone. I have feelings for you too, but Iâm not going to sit here and keep pushing them down because you arenât ready. If weâre going to work this out, we have to be willing to work together. Are you willing to listen?â Erik nodded, which was all I needed to continue. âSo weâve both agreed that we like each other correct? So the next thing to do is toââ
âWill you go on a date with me?â Erik blurted out. I looked at him in shock. Well, that was easier than I thought it would be.
This was so much fun, I absolutely love every part of it!! I love the way you write Erik, and the way you show the angst and the tension. I laughed out loud with the âI feel like this is some sort of infringement on human rightsâ part.

you always tried not to bring your work at home. With Kate it was your rule. Being an Avenger was stressful enough for your girlfriend and you always tried at least to keep your tiny problems to yourself.
but today was just a little too much. your deadline was approaching and some of your colleagues suddenly were not so interested in the successful result.
you felt anxiety crawling under your skin and a crippling fear of failure being too heavy to simply leave it at work. So you took it home. of course Kate noticed.
she felt it the second you came in. everything she knew so well about you, was now different. Your voice, your look, your attention. none of that belonged to her that evening.
she helped you undress, letting Lucky pull you into the living room.
"I missed you so much. Let me just do everything today." Kate gave you a tender kiss.
she cooked your favorite food, got your favorite wine. ordered your favorite dessert. It was a break for you to adjust to the coziness of your home again.
"What would you like to do next?" Kate whispered a question for your tiredness.
you smiled, you took her hand. Your girlfriend was warm, her scent was the one of comfort.
"Just a simple evening."
you snuggled up to her on your ridiculous armchair with Lucky somehow squeezing himself on both of you.
Kate growled, but was instantly shushed by the weight of the warmth.
TV was lazily showing you the humor, that was just slightly outdated. You both were laughing at the same jokes and monologues.
you felt Kate's arms around you. Not letting any bad thoughts win over the relaxed sensation of your girlfriend's love touching you.
you almost fell asleep. but the dog whined suddenly.
"Give me a minute. I need to walk Lucky. I'll return as soon as possible." "I'll go with you."
Kate giggled at you yawning. She loved your cuteness the same she loved your ardor.
it was almost dark. And the air was filled with anticipation of dreaming.
Kate didn't let you be far from her. She was around your waist, on your shoulders, behind your back. Lucky was having fun, while you were inhaling the energy you would use the next day.
you stayed outside for hours and only when you started getting cold Kate guided you back into the house.
you hugged Kate, you fell asleep instantly, you had no dreams.
the next day you woke up content and relaxed. You kissed your woman and murmured a "thank you" in her lips.
she helped you to get rid of all your stress in only one evening.
