Komogombo Y-1200 ââTitanââ
After the debut of the KuâVut super heavy tank, King Zwarajud of Motozambadjah was ready to unleash his ultimate weapon, the conclusion of the ludicrous arms race between Motozambadjah and Ottochia. It was a vehicle conceived by mad prestige, unchecked arrogance, and the Kingâs rampant desire to outclass his Ottochian Nemesis. It was a tank of unbelievable proportions, a titan that could level villages with a single shot. It was the Komogombo Y-1200, titan of war. It was named after General Luca Pica Komogombo, Motozambadjahâs most able commander.
The Y-1200 was a monstrous behemoth, the size of a warehouse, and it is the largest tank ever constructed to this date, dwarfing other giants such as the Klingelgerst and Sigmund with ease. It had multiple decks and was powered by three up-powered electric petroleum engine blocks normally used in tugboats, and weighed more than 1500 tonnes!
The most impressive feature of the tank, apart from its size, was its main armament. Mounted on its massive bulk was the turret of a Zwarajud class battle cruiser, armed with a single 1100 mm Z.Hao naval cannon. Normally the turret would feature two guns, but one was removed due to unsolvable issues with the weight distribution. However, even with only one gun, the Y-1200 met few opponents that could withstand the firepower it could bring to bear; It could obliterate small villages and could break up entire armored formations with one shell. Besides this show stopping piece of ordnance, the tank was bristling with other weapons. Amongst these were mortars, anti-aircraft batteries, cannons, machine guns and hard points for whatever secondary weapons the battle required. The Komogombo itself was almost impervious to practically all but the most heavy of land based weaponry. Although itâs separate modules could be targeted and destroyed, the huge structure of the vehicle meant that it could sustain a staggering amount of hits, whilst still remaining combat effective.
Almost as impressive as its weapons and survivability were the utilities the tank featured. Scattered amongst its many decks were fire coordination stations, ammo dumps, a command centre, a field hospital, crew quarters, a mechanical workshop, a long range communication hub, two different cantinas, multiple latrines and a chapel. It had two cranes on the back of the turret which were used to load its main ammunition. The tank carried enough supplies to sustain its crew for two weeks. All in all, the gigantic vehicle was an impressive sight, and for what it was, a marvel of Motozambadjahâs tank technology
The first Y-1200 to reach the front line, called ââthe Hammer of the Kingââ, drove off two divisions of Ottochian royal guard tanks by its mere appearance. It then proceeded to obliterate the fortified Lukashenka line, which had held off the Motozambadjanese army for three weeks. It subsequently spearheaded a heavy tank battalion into the breach, and destroyed no less than 147 tanks with its secondary weapons. However, a fuel shortage meant that the breakthrough was hardly exploited.
It will be of little surprise that the only vehicle that was a worthy opponent for the Y-1200 was the Kingâs Limousine, the Rup-1n III fielded by Ottochia. Ironically, these two giants only met once in combat. (See Mighty Harbinger below)
Only five Y-1200âs were build during the war; ââHammer of the Kingââ; Taken out of action by enemy planes during the Battle of Mos Zanti, two weeks after the battle at the Lukashenka line. A fire on its top deck spread into the loading breach of the main cannon, where the heat detonated a shell with devastating results. ââKnightly Deliveranceââ; Was deployed in the southern regions near the coastline to help liberate Motozambadjahâs captured seaports. It was destroyed by an anchored Ottochian battleship in Port Panjad. ââMighty Harbingerââ; Deemed irreparable after a prolonged battle with the Kingâs Limousine Rup-1n III âHand of Daimoâ. Both landships fired upon each other for 3 hours before the battle ended in a draw, as both tanks were so heavily damaged that combat was no longer possible. The Harbinger was left at the site of the battle, and was later dismantled by scrappers over a period of 5 years. ââPrestigious Paladinââ; Survived the war, but was subsequently scrapped and melted down to repair the Motozambadjanese railroads that had been devastated by the Ottochians. ââDreadlockeââ; Survived the war. It was bought by the Hobthian museum of hostilities, where it is one of the main attractions to this date. Tours are organized on weekly basis throughout the vehicle.
Despite its fearsome reputation, nowadays historians agree that the Y-1200 was an absolute disaster and tactical mistake. It took agonizingly long amounts of time to get a Y-1200 to its intended location. The tank could only move under its own power, which meant it took weeks to reach battlefields. Both during travel and combat, it consumed so much petroleum that it required its own baggage train of fuel trucks, which made its deployment both a logistical nightmare as well as a very costly affair. Despite its godlike firepower, the vehicle could be a huge tactical liability, delaying attacks, hindering movement, and preventing rapid exploitations of battlefield changes. It also tended to embed itself into the ground when it wasnât moving, and more than once its crew and supporting divisions spend entire days trying to unbog the iron beast. But the biggest drawback of the vehicle was the economic devastation that itwrought upon Motozambadjah. Tacticians have calculated that the Motozambadjanese army could have build 5000 Nâzita stack tanks with the resources and money that were spend on the development of the Y-1200âs, and these would probably have made a much greater impact on the war effort. It is also rumored that the landship project was the deathblow to the Motozambadjanese economy, which completely collapsed after the warâs conclusion. It will be no surprise to the reader that many other nations abandoned their Landship projects after witnessing the events in the crown war surrounding these legendary but economically devastating giants.
