Windows 8.1 preview: many small tweaks make for a significant update
We’ve seen hints thanks to some leaks, but there are a whole host of additions and improvements that make some fundamental changes to Windows 8. The Start button makes its rumored return, as Microsoft has responded to clear feedback. Is it enough? Are things moving quickly over in Redmond? Let’s find out.

Final Post - Reflection
It seems that finally we have come to the end, and I must now reflect on the happenings over the last 13 or so weeks. This blog has had a relatively small audience. I'm not sure if it's because people prefer to read posts in their dashboard, or they simply don't read them at all, but according to analytics over the course of this semester I've had something like 24 visits, 14 of whom have been unique and 10 who've regularly returned. Of those 14, I know at least three aren't me, as I've never used the Chrome browser to visit my blog. There were a few strange bounces from people in the US and Canada too, but the rest of my hits came from Canberra and Sydney.
I have a feeling that some of those returning visitors may have been me, but oh well. :P
I did plug my Tumblr posts into my facebook news feed, but I am unsure how much this affected my overall readership. I only gained one new follower after I added it, and it was not someone I knew, so anyone who saw it on facebook did not follow me even if they did read it. Over the course of the semester I have tried to interact with the "blogosphere", following others in the course and across Tumblr. The first few "techie" weeks were the hardest for me, trying to understand css and html was tricky, hence why I have decided to use a prebuilt theme rather than try and write my own. When seeking this out I opted for a simple one, something easy to read and manage. Choosing a topic to write about was miserable for me, I had no idea what to choose. In the end I think that I ended up doing two at the same time, which sort of worked for me as sometimes I would be more in the mood for one, or not have anything particularly interesting to write about for the other. This did lead to me rambling a bit though, one week I talked about chocolate, another about my dream of my dog stealing a car. Keeping up with blog postings proved difficult for me, evident by my post count. I ended up managing to average maybe one new post a week, as often I would forget about the blog until a tutorial came around. Other more, "physical" assignments, like essays and such, entered my mind first, and I legitimately forgot that I needed to be posting. I have learnt a lot about the web through this course, particularly the way in which information can be shared in mash ups to create something new and more useful than the parts by themselves. It's actually pretty cool when you think about it.
I really liked it when we added the tag cloud to our blogs. It's a lot of fun just tagging things now, and seeing them grow in size if I keep using them. Seeing other people's tag clouds is also cool, you can see roughly what their blog is all about, and sometimes some of the words in them are actually pretty funny. I also think that these tags may have something to do with the strange visits from "randoms" in the USA and Canada. Tumblr's explore feature probably picked up on one of my tags, accounting for the odd visits I received from time to time. One thing that I would like to have changed about this blog is to have gotten a little more content out. Remembering to update it was the biggest problem with this course for me, as the idea of blogging doesn't really appeal to me all that much, as I mentioned in one of my first few posts. Why does anyone really want to know what I think? Anyway, this reflection is getting rather boring now, so I will wrap up and say thanks to everyone who followed me to help me get through this assignment. I don't know if I'll keep this blog, or maybe just use it for other things now that the assessment is up, but it was an interesting experiment either way.
Three similar blogs
Finally getting around to this. Here are three blogs that are doing similar stuff to me. The first ones about ballet, which I'm not into, but hey, it's dance, so it gets a mention. http://a-ballet-blog.tumblr.com/
This ones a bit more interesting, http://dairam.tumblr.com/ It's got all sorts of things on it, but the owner started tap dancing and has heaps of videos, some of Gene kelly, so its pretty cool.
http://live4dance5.tumblr.com/ This last one has all sorts going on, breakdancing stormtroopers and the like, you know. Cos that's normal. It also has some music going on in the background which is cool.
All nighters
As the semester draws to a close, the end of term essays come out of the woodwork to wreak havoc and deprivate thousands of procrastinators of their much loved sleep.
All nighters are getting to be all too familiar to me. Here I was thinking that college was over, that I was all grown up. No longer would I childishly put aside work in favour of more important, interesting, immediate things.
Alas here I am now, somehow having yet again allowed an essay and video project to sneak up on me, sentencing myself to an all-nighter dedicated to writing an analysis of how I view my relationship with writing and messing around with video clips of dogs eating bananas.
I’m hoping that someday I’ll finally learn my lesson and stop being a procrastinator. I like my sleep too much to let this be my main profession.
I guess it’s time to think back and try and get those planning strategies they taught us in high school into good use.
Dance In Australia
Some photos tagged with "dance" across australia.
Some of them are actually pretty cool. And some... fail to make sense. My favourite is this one though... go skippy go!

Chocolate - Part 2 - Toilet chocolate
So, now my tragic tale of how my eggs came to be no more. I really don't have much luck with chocolate.
One easter, yet again, I had stockpiled a huge load of eggs. I think this one is actually a fair while before the candle/zombie egg story so maybe that's why I had so many eggs lying around. Anyway, one day, my brother decided to sneak in and try to steal some of my eggs.
I'm sure at some stage we've all tried to be sneaky and grab a couple extra. If not, I'm trying to make my brother sound better because of what happens in the next bit. [1]
I had already unwrapped my eggs, and had attempted to eat some of the larger ones, so the bowl was filled with chocolate pieces. My brother had just popped one of said eggs in his mouth when I walked in, and to put it nicely, I went off my nut. As an escape plan, he charged at me, throwing the bowl of eggs at my head and attempting to strangle me. Hey, we were only 6 and 8 years old or something. The aftermath saw the battlefield strewn with dead eggs, crushed and trampled into the carpet. Some of these I could save, but others no. Our house, being a rather small one, means that my bedroom is in the unfortunate position of being located directly across from the toilet. Unfortunalty on this day the door had been wide open, and almost all of my eggs had landed on the toilet floor. This was horrible. My easter chocolate, lying fouled on the toilet floor. Mum had no sympathy, stating that it was our fault that it had ended up there, and we had to clean it up. Grumpily I placed it back into the bowl, my brother flatly refusing to pick up anything for someone else. My Dad is a massive chocoholic. Although he has since cut down a lot, back then he was buying a block of cadbury milk chocolate a day, just for himself. When he got home that day, he saw the bowl of my 'toilet chocolate' sitting on the bench. Being him, he of course could not resist, and took a few pieces. To my horror I entered to see him consume half of the bowl, unaware of where the chocolate had visited. He then strolled down the hall, and seeing chocolate on the toilet floor, picked it up and ate it. He is now the man who ate chocolate off the toilet floor. My dad will of course, forever deny that this ever happened but we know it did...
The same brother who once let a gazelle out at the zoo, shut off all the travellators in the Sydney CBD, and started up a tank at an ANZAC memorial service. (not all at once) But those are different tales for another time. [1]
Chocolate
It's staring at me. It wants me to kill it. I want to as well. It knows it. But I can't. Because then I won't have any more chocolate :(
There's some running joke in my family that I'm some kind of mole/squirrel/doomsdayer because I never eat all my easter chocolate in one go. When Easter has come and gone and they've eaten all their chocolate, running around on a sugar/caffiene high, I'm sitting in the corner with a massive pile of shiny eggs. For this they shun me, saying I'm strange, or unnatural. But I say, why should I be discriminated against because I DON'T have an addiction. Sure, I like chocolate, but why should I stuff my face rather than enjoy it?
This year it seems the chocolate companies have gone to war with us easter choci hoarders. Every one of my eggs and bunnies has a use by date for the 1st of june. My whole family's stash had the same date as well, so I can only presume that it is some conspiracy to make us buy more chocolate. Since when does chocolate have such a short use by date? It lasts for years. Something dodgy is going on...
I have two funny/ sad stories about chocolate, which I'll spread into two posts to get my post count up :P
Okay, so once I got this massive chocolate egg for easter. It was bigger than my head. You know the ones. Any way, I wanted to keep it around as long as possible to annoy my brothers (as you do), so to keep it safe, I placed it in a cupboard in the kitchen, next to the candles and good cutlery.
Bad mistake.
Upon returning to my prize some months later, when I took the first bite of that egg, it was the most disgusting chocolate I have ever eaten.
And it wasn't even a dodgy cheapo woollies egg.
I shall never get out of my mind the horrid taste that those scented candles gave to my poor poor egg. The salt crystals with a scent of rose or something like that had over the months leaked into the chocolate, turning my egg into a brown smelly, non burning candle. It was like a zombie effect. Needless to say, that egg was promptly thrown in the bin. I was so sad about that egg, and I've never gotten one that big again since. You'd think that after an experience like that I'd wolf them all down in one day.
Now... back to writing an essay :/ and maybe eating chocolate :D
birthdays...
Eek. I'm 18 tomorrow! I don't want to be an adult yet!
It's weird. Usually I'd like birthdays. One more year to add to the belt, one more full year of experience. But this year, I really don't want it to come. I don't feel old enough yet! (or mature enough)
I'm one of the last of my group of friends to be 18, the rest of them are all oldies who had their's last year.
It's really quite a scary idea that I'll technically be an adult. And a stupid one. I am definitely not ready... haha. Damn it, now I really do have to be responsible, and not just pretend! :(
Catching up on posts
I just remembered that we have to post a certain amount of posts each week to pass this course at the end.... haha. Can you blame me if I was too focussed on playing portal 2? Awesome game. Anyway. I'm meant to be talking about something on topic, which for this blog hasn't happened in a while. But with my dance school off for the school holidays, I really don't have all that much to say on the topic, other than I may need some new tap shoes. My current ones are well... nearing retirement.
I think they are nearly 3 years old, and having had a very active life, are very nearly dead. One of them has lost its rubber grip under the ball of the shoe, (a war wound, which occurred during an epic slide) so every time I walk around on an ever so slippery surface I nearly end up on my back, and the screws are almost always in need of tightening. They've been through the wars so to speak.
I noticed the other day that I've also managed to wear some of the writing out on the taps :S They're meant to say shockwave under the "Bloch".
A surprising find?
Well, it appears that there are more people out there 'google-ing' dance than there are bored or boredom. Which is a good thing I guess. I would've thought that all the people looking for flash games when they're meant to be doing work would have outnumbered dance, but there we are.
Maybe all the bored people are looking to get down and boogie? Or maybe its just my suspicion "so you think you can dance" is affecting the trends a little, which you can see if you go into the year view.
A delayed post...
So last saturday, I went to Sydney for the day and saw the stage performance Riverdance. It was really good, entertaining and all, but the creepy thing was that it was the exact same show that I had seen on Tv a few years ago which I've mentioned before.
It was almost identical, though the scene which I posted a video of was much better done this time. Apparently there are three river dance troupes which all perform different shows, and I had just so happened to see this one. Was a strange feeling.
er.. what else am I supposed to post?
oh. I still haven't done the 1st thing we were meant to do with that find a blog similar to your's etc...
Maybe next post?
