Grandpa haggling at the fish market.
May the Keeper of the Flame, Goddess Hestia, keep all warm who will be hit by the incoming storm. May she protect us all from the bitter cold and keep us both safe and nurtured. May this storm pass quickly for those most affected. I hope everyone can stay warm. đĽ
talk to me about the most consuming, passionate, awe-inducing parts of your practice, I don't want another correspondences post
I think for me, it's the moments after all the work is done, and we are laying about basking in each other. There is an intense intimacy that grows when you practice witchcraft with other people, the open vulnerability as you see others let go in ecstatic adoration before the gods. That is what I stand in awe and wonder at when I'm in circle.

i, too, enjoy alcohol, theatre, androgyny, experience bouts of madness and sometimes want to tear to shreds those family members who question my identity
Just about every "AKSHUALLY, this thing is SECRETLY PAGAN!" claim can be traced back to:
Protestants making shit up to try and "prove" whatever shit they decided to hate on was secretly Satanic.
German nationalists making shit up trying to "prove" that Christian holidays had no connection to anything Jewish.
People failing to understand that European converts to Christianity retained many of their old customs and traditions, because Jesus being Lord doesn't mean there's no dragons in that there lake or that the plant lore everybody knows is all bunk.
People making wild assumptions due to a failure to comprehend that similarities between traditions does not inherently imply connection between traditions.
5. Victorian folklorists deciding that every single European folk practice was actually an unbroken continuation of an ancient, pre-Christian (usually pan-European) pagan practice, despite all evidence to the contrary, because it made them feel special â¨
6. Modern witches and pagans not bothering to do mundane historical research and relying far too heavily on pagan-published sources (which repeated that Victorian/Edwardian rhetoric) for information on the history of witchcraft and paganism and taking pseudohistorical persecution narratives as gospel. Because it makes them feel special. â¨
Persephone and Demeter
Winter comes
Not enough variations focus on the story of Demeter and Perseophone as one of loss. When everything dies around grief and how pomegranates resemble blood. How she died because a man loved her too much. No god can justify that to a mother

11: Hades and Persephone in Sicily
âAlready in the sixth century, Pindar (Pyth. 12.1-2) described Akragas as the âseat of Persephone,â and by the first century, Cicero (Verr. 2.4.106) could remark that all Sicily was sacred to Demeter and Persephone.â
âIn the Greek West, Kore/Persephone herself was sometimes the more prominent partner of the two, and played an important role in the social construction of marriage and the rites leading to adulthood for women and men. In keeping with Koreâs significance as the archetypal bride, the western colonies saw the core of the myth as the theogamy of Persephone/Kore and Hades, rather than the reunion of Demeter and Kore after the latterâs abduction, which was the focus of the Eleusinian Mysteries.â
Ancient Greek Cults: A Guide by Jennifer Larson.
(On Locrian pinakes Hades and Persephone are often shown together with roosters, so I drew them being slightly confused by all the chickens following them around. Then I remembered that Locri is not in Sicily, but on the âtoeâ of Italy. XD)
speaking of halloween- if you donât know what the fuck this is, i am begging you to educate yourself<3
happy october ! please rise for the anthem
Fun fact: This music video was released in July 1997. They had no obligation to make this in any way Halloween themed. The song probably isnât on many Halloween playlists. But the Backstreet Boys wanted to do it this way, and had to fight the record label about it.
Oh, so this video clip is what they were referring to when they sung I want it that way?

the persecution of lefthandedness is insane to think about because it was so intense for so long, in some places still is, without any clear profit motivation. sheer love of the game. as late as the 70s at least they were smacking my stepdad's hands for it with a wooden ruler at school, to this day he's in weird ambidexterity situation where he's not great with either side and notably clumsy due to poor hand-eye coordination. just wtf
