Today, Tomb Raider delighted us with a too short cutscene that we ALL HAVE SEEN (if not, what are you doing with your life?) It was leaked yesterday tho I didn’t watch a thing because why not? I’ve waited since 2015, one day more was like… nothing at all. Let’s continue… I’ve stopped the teaser a lot of times, watching and capturing every detail. After that, I just did the math and I came to a theory about the main story/plot of Shadow of the tomb raider. So, all of this is just MY THEORY and I can be wrong, or not at all and this could be a potential spoiler. By the way, I’m not a professional journalist or some crazy-theories-guy that always guesses everything right, so just read if you want. Now, let’s begin.
During the last cutscene from Rise of The Tomb Raider, Lara is in her dad’s desktop which is full of maps and tapes. She talks to herself while Jonah awaits outside. As the camera zooms in, we can see the second map in the picture (swipe). In it, clearly appears Mexico but it’s an old map from The New Spain. The most shocking detail is the giant red circle circling Yucatan. Also, on the top of the picture we can appreciate an ID from Kennard Montez, a Trinity man who appears on the previous comics between Tomb Raider 2013 and ROTTR. This guy tried to kill Lara in the London subway, and it’s known that he’s an important persona inside the Trinity association. Also, there’s a drawing of Trinity’s symbol, and all of that made me think about Lara going to the Vatican (Rome) to put an end to this awful and ruthless enemy. Why Rome? Well, in Rise there’s pretty clear that Trinity is an order with its origin there, in the Vatican (The Holy Trinity). “I can stop them. I can make the right difference”, repeats to herself. After one of the post-credit scenes where a shooter aims to Lara and a voice says “not yet”, in this last game we are going to discover everything about Trinity and its leader, who I think that is Lara’s father, Richard Croft. It’s crazy, but the voice was so similar between them, tho Lara saw her father dead but that could be some kind of “farse”. If that was true, Lara would suffer a lot and probably become darker (shadow).
Also, there’s a blue sticky note that clearly says LOCATION 3 (three games, three locations?) which kind of destroys my theory about Rome, but who knows. Whatever, on the note there are also symbols that I cannot read properly so they are a mystery. But beneath the blue note there’s another note (white) with a drawing of skulls that seem to be some kind of statue. Down that drawing, there’s some interesting thing wrote (swipe). ARMY OF THE DEAD and I don’t know what follows, because the quality is so bad. Even in the game that was unreadable.
Now, we can re-watch again the teaser from Shadow of The Tomb Raider and we see Mexico (and Mayan structures) that fit with the theory about Yucatan and the settings. The army of the dead is also part of the Mayan culture, and like we saw on the logo from the new game and in the first picture, there’s a solar eclipse. Mayan people used to think that during these events, the world was very close to its end and a kind of portal between the dead and the living opened (army of the dead). That storyline also reminds us about the Tomb Raider Legend and Underworld (the door between the world of the living and the dead). And that’s everything I could figure out after watching the 20 seconds teaser and remembering about Rise’s lasts moments. So, what is going to happen next? On April 27 will be the presentation and we will have something else, and if my theories were right, the third and last (sad) adventure of the reboot Lara Croft could spin around the Mayan culture, what makes me so happy because it’s one of the most rich ancient cultures and ubicated in the jungle, so we are going to see a lot of beautiful and stunning green landscapes (I hated the snow after Rise).
