I’m honestly still waiting for someone to explain to me how 3 seconds of Jeff Goldblum blinking while Loki looks uncomfortable is definitive proof of a sexual relationship.

But that aside, the power dynamic and Loki’s obvious extreme discomfort any time he’s around the Grandmaster are solid evidence to me that if there was anything sexual between them, it wasn’t (and in fact couldn’t have been) consensual.

TLDR; Ragnarok still sucks and Loki still deserves better

Ugh make it stop. There is no such reference in the script, and no such intention from either actor. Just a lot of wishful thinking from people who see gay subtext in everything. The very same people who claim to want accurate representation cling to demeaning stereotypes with disconcerting ferocity. And I have no issue with gayness. I have an issue with the fetishization of abuse. The Grandmaster, while entertaining, is amoral and cruel. Any relationship with him would be woefully imbalanced. Forgive me if the idea of Loki sucking dick to avoid being melted to death does not appeal to me, especially after all the mistreatment he’s endured.

Homosexuality already gets precious little representation, is this the best they can do? The ship itself is originating in dysfunction. If this ship is canon, it is slavery and coercion, which is rape. And Loki is made a fool for it, while everyone wanks over his victimization, calls him a whore and laughs at him. Yay, we have a canon gay ship, where the one guy rapes the other! Whoo hoo, as if male rape isn’t already merely laughed at! As if homosexuality isn’t already painted as gross and weird! As if gay men aren’t already portrayed as sacrificing their dignity by engaging in homosexual relations!

However - it is not canon in the script, and is not meant to be a representative gay ship (thankfully, as I would lose my shit if this was Marvels’ idea of representing homosexuality.) It’s not even queerbaiting, although it comes across as such, because its not intentional.

No, rather its a warped fan misinterpretation of the three seconds GM spent looking at a repulsed and uncomfortable Loki, who keeps flinching away from him. And this has taken this wild ride down toxic avenues that glorify and fetishize abuse from the perspective of the abuser, because some people find that fun. I do think the implication was intentional; it wasn’t just the blinking, it was the entire dynamic between them, including that last gif. But I also think it was played for laughs, which is inexcusable given the circumstances of the implied relationship. Which makes it all the more baffling to me that people see Ragnarok as “positive queer representation” in the MCU. It was queer-baiting; it was subtext that was never made text, which gives them plausible deniability. But the subtext, in this case, was also horrific. It wasn’t attempting to portray this as a healthy relationship; it was playing Loki’s discomfort as funny – another sign of the film’s complete lack of sympathy for him.

The only actual queer representation is in the TV shows: “Jessica Jones” and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Not central characters, but well-rounded side characters.

I don’t believe it was intentional considering how it was described in the script. The Grandmaster was beholding himself. He’s a narcissist wanting people to compliment him. Loki was having non of that of course. Even the script describes the scene as awkward and uncomfortable.

Aside from that everything that was said in this post from start to finish is gives me life. That Instagram post disturbs me so much and this Tumblr post makes me feel better.

What boggles my mind is we could have had a good lgbt representation with Valkyrie and her female lover. They even had a scene that Marvel decided to cut. However,fans are just ignoring completely what Marvel did and instead latch on to something that was downright disturbing and calling it lgbt representation.

Also, why is no one shipping Valkyrie and the Grandmaster? When she was the one who was allowed to touch his face and he even swoons. Why aren’t people shipping Thor with the Grandmaster? When the GM calls Thor “Seductive God of Thunder”. Or even the Hulk and Grandmaster. GM calls the Hulk his beloved. Why? Its because everyone knows that these characters deserve better than to be shipped with the Grandmaster. The Grandmaster doesn’t even say Loki’s name and treats Loki like some court jester there for the laughs. I’m saying it now even Myths Loki would be suspicious of the Grandmaster and makes sure he doesn’t come a 100 feet near him.
