‘Crimson Peak’ Star Tom Hiddleston Received ‘A Gift’ From Director! What Did Guillermo Del Toro Give The Horror Film’s Cast?

“Crimson Peak” star Tom Hiddleston received a ten-page biography for his role! Why did Guillermo Del Toro give him this “gift”?

However, Del Toro didn't just rely on the actor's talents to make his "Crimson Peak" characters believable. In an interview with Digital Trends, the "Pacific Rim" helmer revealed that he personally prepared all the background information for each character in the film.

"I gave each of them a ten-page biography that says everything from what they like to eat to what sign they are and day they were born - all the story of the characters up to the point of the movie," he shared, adding that he ordered each actor not to share their own information to the others because each biography holds their character's biggest secrets.

I’m so itching to know what the deal is with the Sharpe siblings in particular. Won’t lie, I’m not into the romantic aspect of it. I want to get straight to the creepy, weird, “OMFG what just happened!?” shit, lol.

It’s been interesting to see the buzz around this film from folks who are not Tom (or even Mia W.) fans. Overall positive response to the trailer, deep respect for the director, general sense of “yeah, looks like something I want to see”. Time will tell on how well this one does at the box office, it will be exciting to see.

do you know if there are any links to the crimson peak script? have looked everywhere and keep seeing people mentioning it but cannot find it. Thank you.

Nope, sorry. I vaguely remember one blog post/link to a supposed “leaked” script way back, well before the film even started shooting. Having said that, you need to take any “leaked” scripts (regardless of the movie) you find on the Internetz with less than a grain of salt. In a recent interview Tom already said that Del Toro re-wrote it a bit while they were talking about him accepting the role. And it’s certainly not uncommon for a script to go into re-writes before shooting and during.

Honestly, I’m just going to skip the spoilers, sit back, and (hopefully) be pleasantly entertained with what I get.

So, I was pulled away from the set visit and led to Hiddleston’s trailer to do this chat. He opened the door half in his costume, his lacy shirt billowing in the breeze and the whole nine yards. No shit, it was like a Harlequin romance cover come to life and I realized there were about 2 million girls in this world that would have slit my throat to have been in this position.

His trailer smelled strongly of incense (the good shit, not the headshop skunk crap) and he had photos and art taped up on the cabinets, all relating to his character in some way. Lots of Victorian era men and women, mostly high society types and there were some creepy dead bride stuff, too. I bring that part up because I touch on it in the below interview.

This is the kind of stuff I don’t get to see too often and I was curious to see how the inherent awkwardness of a big kissing scene done in front of a big crew was handled. Naturally it was Guillermo who broke the tension after the first take. “Cut! Very nice! Get a room!” Which caused both Hiddleston and Wasikowska to blush and laugh along with their spectators.

Guillermo’s big note was that Hiddleston shouldn’t just go right into the big kiss, but be more tentative. “Yes, of course. It is the first one, after all,” Hiddleston replied. Then added “Like Will Smith says in Hitch: Go 90% and let them come 10%.” Brilliant, reserved Shakespearean actor Tom Hiddleston quoting Hitch, ladies and gentlemen!

They didn’t film this in small pieces, so every take it was Hiddleston appearing at the end of the hall, Wasikowska turning to him and hearing his big speech as he slowly approaches until they are right up in each other’s faces. Then the kiss, which motivates the camera to circle around into a profile, which frames them against a bright window, backlighting them.
