🇬🇧There are three months of vegetable-growing and sweat in this little pan… happiness is a very simple thing, just got to work hard in its pursuit! 🇬🇧I don’t follow soccer much, as my father raised me riding motorcycles every weekend on this Earth… BUT… A few memories from my childhood are in fact calcio-related. When I was in elementary school the whole city of Florence had one and only one hero: @giancarloantognoni was the captain of Fiorentina at the time. He inspired a whole generation of young players, he was classy, polite and very aspirational… so even if I was not a soccer fan I remember respecting the man a ton! @gabrielbatistutaok arrived to Florence years later from Argentina, but had the same effect on my city… he led our team to many important wins, he earned the captain’s armband and now there is a statue in his honor right out of our stadium. So yeah, I am not much a of a footballer, but could not pass out the opportunity of snatching a selfie with these two incredible athletes and humans! #soccer #florence #tuscany 🇮🇹 Chi mi conosce sa che del calcio me ne frega poco o niente… forse perché da piccino facevo caha’ e nessuno mi voleva mai in squadra… al massimo mi mettevano in porta, e giù pallonate sul muso… piacevoli ricordi. Every day (almost) we are enjoying wonderful moments together and creating great memories of our new life in #florence Yesterday our city’s patron San Giovanni Battista was celebrated along the streets of the city center, the final game of the Calcio Storico was held in Piazza Santa Croce, and after a bountiful traditional dinner, the day ended with a spectacular fireworks show! Baby, thank you for being my soulmate, it’s been 20 years together, and still often it feels like we just met! About last night, when my roast attempt turned into something even more magical. The basic idea was to butterfly open a pork loin, stuff it with seared sausage, twine it right and cook it… However since the filling was crumbly and not really binding, once I sliced the roast it completely fell apart… I was not bothered, just tossed it all back into the cast iron pot, soaked it all in its juices and served it on a platter as if it was always intended to look like that. It was absolutely fantastic, too bad I don’t have leftovers otherwise it would have ended up in tomorrow night’s tacos! Recipe is a snap: sear sausages with garlic and rosemary, then deglaze w white wine and set aside. Slice pork loin open, spread sausage stuffing, then twine w sage leaves. Seat in cast iron on all sides, lower flame and pour a bottle of beer over it. Cook for about 45 mins, flipping it a few times. When ready, slice it thin, bring back into the pot for a couple of minutes then serve on a platted dressed with its juices! —— Volevo fare un arrosto ma mi sono venuti fuori degli straccetti da paura! Tre sarscicciole saltate benin benino con aglio e rosmarino, poi sfumate con avanzo di vino bianco. Arista aperta e spalmata con suddette, legata con bastante salvia e cotta a foho tranquillino per una quarantacinquina…. Una girata ogni tanto gni fa bene! Quando pare pronta, affettategnene sottile sottile, e poi aributtate tutto ni’ ppentolone. Servite gli straccetti su un vassoio e benediceteli con tutt’i ssugo! The rule of thumb would be to harvest herbs early in the am, when they are nice and perky from the night cooler temperatures and the morning dew… However, it is also true that once harvested they would last in the refrigerator less than they would if they were still in the ground. So, new rule, I harvest when I’m hungry… and now it’s time for lunch. Some ice added to the water rinse will return crunchiness and firmness to the leaves. —— Il contadino consiglia di raccogliere nell’orto al primo mattino… quando le piante sono arzille e ben diritte dopo il fresco notturno e la brina mattutina… Il fatto è che le verdure durano di più a terra che nel frigorifero… per cui la mia regola è di raccogliere solo quando ho fame. My @debimazar is shooting today, so I figured she could use a nice to go meal for whenever she can take a break I whipped a quick farro salad that already screams summer! I am now having a little bowl of it myself, while conversing with my vegetable garden just outside the kitchen window… zucchini and cucumbers are already in full bloom and pumping fruit like crazy, tomatoes on the way, chard a bit overgrown… tons of salads that we have been enjoying already for about a month now and a cornucopia of many other things are growing strong and healthy. I hope next year I can get to fix our well; Tuscany is going through the worst drought in 70 years, the earth is dry and scorched, every plant around us is suffering immensely… So happy to be back home, it has been two years now and it feels like I just started working on the estate and the house. A process I don’t intend to rush, I needed to let a few seasons pass to grasp how changed seasons have been affecting the land… it’s challenging! —— La moglie oggi è sul set, per cui la ho benedetta con una insalatina di farro e la ho spedita a lavoro sorridente e innamorata… na bomba. Quindi venne fame anche a me, mi preparai uno scodellotto, l’aggiustai con un filino d’olio e na spruzzata di sale… ovviamente diluisco il tutto con canonico nitrino diacciato! E poi a chiacchiera con l’orto sotto la finestra della cucina… l’erba cresce più veloce se la guardi, ci parli, e pazientemente dai fiducia al campo.
