For context: this came out in 2011 in Australia. Same-sex marriage would not be legalized until December 2017.

It was only legalized in 8 US states (the 8th only a few months before), and wouldn’t be legalized nation-wide until 2015.

It was only legal in TEN COUNTRIES in 2011. We wouldn’t hit 20 countries until 2017. (Australia was 23rd)

As of today (April 14, 2026), I believe only 38 countries have fully legalized same-sex marriage. Out of somewhere around 200 countries in the world. That’s only ~19% of countries.

This is still revolutionary.

That night was one of the most nerve-wracking ones of his life. He could barely get himself to fall asleep. What if he had misjudged it? What if he went down, followed Buck's usual clues but didn’t find who he thought he would on the other side? He tossed and turned and breathed in deep until exhaustion finally pushed him to sleep.

The river seemed to sing to him when he made it to their usual dreamscape. Birdsong came from the treeline, laundry fluttered in the wind by the log house. The sunshine felt warmer than usual on his face, and even the tall peak in the distance seemed less formidable than before. “Buck!” He called out, jogging towards the house, but he stopped in his tracks when the curtain of clean clothes parted to reveal a face he finally, after all those years, recognised.
