The internet just changed: Net Neutrality is dead.

The FCC sided with Comcast and decided to let ISPs censor the internet. The Internet needs to stop this from happening: http://cms.fightforthefuture.org/tellfcc/

Last Wednesday, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler announced a proposal for new rules that would allow for a “ fast lane” of Internet traffic for content providers who are willing (and able) to pay a fee. [1] The proposal reverses the FCC’s previous commitment to net neutrality and open internet and allows ISP’s like Comcast or Verizon to slow down and censor services that don’t pay the toll.

We have to be totally honest, this situation is seriously grim. But there is still hope. The FCC already knows that the Internet community wants net neutrality, but they think they can put their spin on these new rules and sneak them through. If we can prove them wrong right now with a massive public outcry, we can literally save the Internet once again.

We need to stop the FCC now. Big business groups are already ramping up lobbying efforts with the FCC in swarms since Wednesday’s announcement in support of censoring the open Internet and to ensure this dangerous proposal moves forward. [2]

This is a critical moment. In the last few weeks more than 65,000 people have taken action with us. Can you help us get to 80,000 by the end of the day today?

Hi guys, today I am here doing a different post. 

A good friend of mine, Felipe has been fighting over cancer, specifically osteosarcoma which is a cancer that starts in the bones, for 5 years now. In the first years he had a surgery to remove part of the leg bone. He never liked to expose himself, but recently he had to amputate the leg completely, which cost him a lot of money, leaving a difficult situation for his family.

 He urgently need help to fund a prosthesis for his leg, but his parents can not handle everything anymore, and that’s why I’m here. I wanted to ask you for any amount of money that can help, this is a very difficult situation for them. We’ve already got an amount but it’s not enough yet. I will leave the values below and the information for those who want to help you:

The prothesis costs: R$40.000 (BRL); $12.000 (USD); $11.000 (EUR)

We are appalled by President Trump’s tweets about banning transgender people from military service. There are an estimated 15,000 transgender people already working in the Department of Defense, putting their lives on the line to protect our nation and its values. Those values do not include the heartlessness exhibited by Mr. Trump this morning. Discrimination has no place in our government, in our workplaces, our schools, or anywhere else in our lives.

While it’s still unclear what the actual policy ramifications of these tweets will be, we recommend keeping up with (and, if you can, donating to) the ACLU and the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund. 

You can also directly tell the president how unacceptable his attack on American servicepersons is by using this form provided by the @transgenderfreedomproject.

PEARL NEEDS HELP. Please, read!

This is Pearl, a super crazyass yorkie who gets everyone’s love after 20 seconds spent with her. She’s gonna bark at you, she’s gonna make a ugly face and try to grab your hand, which will get you to think she dislikes you, but that’s actually a smile and once she gets to your hand she’s gonna lick everything and keep asking for your attention, & she keeps doing that, but with the running around replaced by a sad cry trying to get you closer. She’s 2 years old and has been with me for one year now. I may sound like a crazy person wanting help for a dog which people would pay a lot of money to get, but that’s not my case. I’m completely against buying pets, just so you know. Her previous owner is the one who got her and gave Pearl to me as she was about to move from where she lived and wasn’t able to take care of Pearl. My previous dog had died of old age a year before that and she knew I was missing company & would take good care of her dog, that’s why she gave Pearl to me. I know, this isn’t about me, but I just wanted to explain that I’m not a rich person with an “expensive” dog. I’m not. I’m just someone who was there when she needed, and I also needed her.

She was SUPER active. Like, really, SUPER. Jumping from here to there, running around like crazy, etc. Until one day I woke up and she wouldn’t put one of her paws on the ground. I got her to the vet for a consult and she explained to me everything and I’m gonna try to explain to you even though I’m not an expert:

She has patellar/kneecap dislocation on one of her back legs, which means her “kneecap is dislocated normal anatomic position in the groove of the thigh bone (femur). When the kneecap is dislocated from the groove of the thigh bone, it can only be returned to its normal position once the quadriceps muscles in the hind legs of the animal relax and lengthen. It is for this reason that most dogs with the condition will hold up their hind legs for a few minutes.”

But there are degrees of complications. At 1 the dog puts it in place on its own by stretching the leg, most people don’t even notice that, I guess I didn’t. With the “persistence of the condition, as well as the amount of degenerative arthritis that is involved. Typically, a dog with a dislocated kneecap will exhibit prolonged abnormal hindlimb movement, occasional skipping or hindlimb lameness, and sudden lameness.” The vet said this is actually kind of normal between small races, like Pearl.

The vet wasn’t able to put it in place (manually), it kept sliding/dislocating. Meaning: she’ll need surgery, which is going to open up space so the bones fit in place and don’t dislocate anymore - explained in my words, which are easier to understand, believe me.

I already “paid” (creditcard which I have no idea how I’m gonna pay) for the consult and the x-rays, which confirmed she’s gonna need surgery, but I don’t have conditions to pay for it all. The surgery itself costs at least R$5000,00 (about $1600) + postoperative care. I’m still researching about prices but that’s the least expensive I was able to find for now, and still gotta check every places’ backgrounds to see if they’re reliable. 

I’m completely devastated seeing little Pearl like this. She was this super happy and crazy dog and now she’s just… there. I want to help her, I need to help her, but I can’t… not alone. I’m currently unemployed, not because I want to, but because it’s really hard to get a job around here.

The vet just said she shouldn’t move that leg and for me to try to make her not to,as movement equals more conflict. But she didn’t say how, that’s all on me. On the pic you can see my attempt to make it still with a piece of cloth wrapped around her knee, not very effective so I’m accepting ideas.

i fucking hate asking for help but i don’t know what else to do

my younger brother has severe autism and as of late has been experiencing extreme mood swings which have caused him to be violent towards me and my family members. he’s attacked me before, very badly, and because of that i’ve been having ptsd-like episodes of panic just from being in the same room as him. it’s been hard on my entire family. aside from this he’s been going through something that’s been making him eat everything in our house, without care, to the point that he’s binging and purging and eating things that aren’t even food, like makeup, soap, and even my cat’s food. we don’t know what to do anymore. 

 tonight he attacked my mom because he was caught stealing food and she asked him not to eat it. he got agitated and threw the food at her, and when she yelled at him not to throw things at her, he attacked her. he hurt her to the point that she was screaming for someone to help her. my mother is an extremely strong woman who can handle anything and has been having to handle my 6'2 200+ lbs brother attacking her on more than one occasion, on her own. she is obviously hurt even though she won’t admit to me that she is and he ripped a lot of hair from her head. she has huge chunks of exposed scalp and the sound of my mother crying and saying that she’s ugly when she thinks no one can hear her breaks my fucking heart more than i can tell you because my mother does not deserve to feel that pain. she’s done nothing but her best and there isn’t much i can do to help her. she’s ashamed to go out in public looking the way that she does and she’s terrified to be here with my brother, just like my sister and i are. 

 i don’t want her to feel like this. i don’t want her to feel ugly or like she’s done something to deserve what we’re going through. i want to help her get some kind of hair treatment to make her feel beautiful again while she heals from this. extensions or braids or anything. i can’t even fucking imagine what this will do for not only her self esteem but the depression she won’t admit she’s going through. if anyone would like to donate literally anything literally even fucking pennies to helping my mom out or replenishing groceries i can’t express to you how grateful i would be. please don’t feel like you have to contribute anything. all i ask is that you keep us in your prayers because i don’t know what we’re going to do. i don’t want anything to happen to him but we can’t live with him like this and he has nowhere else to go. if i can help her with this and relieve even the smallest bit of stress for her while we figure out what we’re going to do i would be fucking elated. and if anyone knows of any resources i can look to for help about what to do about his aggression and violence please please let me know. thank you for listening to this i just honestly don’t know what to do at this point

LOL That’s actually just the beginning of the story. It started that way and then I ended up having this crush for like a year and a half.

Hey guys, I’m sorry I’ve been somewhat inactive lately. While I’m on summer break, I still managed to lose motivation. 😂 Not that I’ll stop writing, but it’s mainly the editing part. 😂 I don’t even know tbh. Also, real life issues have kinda taken over my life atm and so I’ve been mainly focused on that lately. I’ve been telling everyone I know for YEARS not to buy Blue Buffalo.

This is the short story:

A few years ago I took my sick cat, Ankh, to the vet. The vet and vet tech asked what I fed her. I told them Blue Buffalo. They looked like I had just told them I fed her razor blades and cyanide. They diagnosed her with pancreatitis and said that nearly all of the cats they’d been seeing lately with pancreatitis were being fed Blue Buffalo.  They gave her medicine and sent her home.  Two days later she had a seizure and died right in my arms. 

The day after she died Hannibal started displaying the same symptoms she had so I panicked hard and took him to the vet.  Got the same meds and the same diagnosis.  Luckily Hannibal survived.

I don’t know the full story behind the tweets above, but a Google search shows there HAVE been several recalls regarding this brand, especially in 2016. I would absolutely avoid as it is not worth the risk.

I just did some serious research on cat food because I got a new kitten, and I’m going to add a rec to this for cat owners going “I USE BLUE BUFFALO, SHIT.”

The food I picked for Atem is Triumph Chicken and Rice. It made multiple “best cat foods of 2016” lists, has nutritional quantity enough to be usable across the cat’s life without needing kitten/elderly cat food, has had no recalls that I could find, is grain-free, and multiple user reviews said their cats seemed to enjoy it a lot. (And he’s growing headlong on it.) I got mine from chewy.com, but it’s also on Amazon and I wouldn’t be surprised if Petco carries it.

If you need to switch off Blue Buffalo to protect your cat, look into Triumph. (They also make dog food! But I did not research that, because Atem is not a dog.)

I like Fromm. It’s made in Wisconsin out of good stuff, has fairly high ratings, and is still in the realm of affordable for me. I believe there’s a cat food, also.
