With one last look at his son, he lowers his head and presses a kiss to Marcus’ soft curls and slips out of the room, shutting the door behind him softly.

He follows her silently to the living room, eyes scanning for any other signs that someone might be living here without his knowledge. “You look at me as if you’re the only one who’s been hit with a bombshell today.” He leans against the nearest wall as they stare each other down. “I had to leave, was supposed to be for a few days, a week at most, and then I’d be coming home. But shit got complicated, very quickly.” Lost a lot of lives during that time. Took almost as much too. “I tried to reach out to you but couldn’t, risk was too great. You were still pregnant when I left, if the pictures aren’t any indication.” He sighs deeply and shakes his head. “Then I come home after almost losing my life and you can’t remember me.”

She shook her head, “Look around. There’s no sign that anyone but me and Marcus were ever here. Don’t you think I looked for pictures or clues to who the father was and why did he leave me alone? I woke one day not knowing who I was or why. All I know is I had a baby to take care of. Alone.” She said the last would with enough acid to eat through any metal.
