Both categories include people with penises, and people with vaginas, and people with ambiguous genitals.

Both categories include intersex people.

This isn't an identity. Its a shorthand way of referring to who is subjected to transmisogyny and who is not. It's not something we are imposing on people, we're describing how this transmisogynistic society is imposing or nit imposing transmisogyny on people. It doesn't care if you don't identify with fem or masc, it only cares about what you were compulsarily assigned at birth. People who aren't transitioning away from being compulsorily assigned "male" at birth are simply not subject to transmisogyny by this society. If they are trans, they're still subjected to transphobia, but not transmisogyny.

The TMA/TME divide amongst enbies describes predominantly how two people, despite neither being femme or masc, are treated completely differently based on their assigned gender at birth.

Enbies who are TMA literally cannot attend the same events that enbies who are TME can, even if their presentation is functionally identical. They are banned in big bold letters on adverts, and if they're discovered, they get thrown out and called a rapist as the door slams shut behind them.

TMA enbies are never allowed to divorce themselves from their gender assignment in societies eyes, they're never allowed to "just" be enbies, take it from someone who presented as agender for many years. The only people who took that in good faith were one (1) TME and I was dating her. Everyone else treated me like an intruder while actively bending over backwards to accommodate TME enbies.

My introduction to transfeminism came when my coworkers who had been talking a big game of supporting "trans people" asked me after I came out to them "I know you said your pronouns are she/her, and your name is 'Kayla', but can I use they/them and call you 'Kay?' It's just more comfortable to me."

It came when my parents rejected me after my older sister outed me to them, but then accepted my trans brother with open arms.

It came when just a few weeks later a man in Stevensville Montana threw rocks at me while screaming bible verses.

I didn't learn about transmisogyny from Whipping Girl, I learned about it before I knew its name. I learned about it by being transmisogynized.

I'm running a pride event for trans people with a transmasc acquaintance. They've written a quiz for the event about queer history. In one of the questions, referencing a period in history pre-dating the terms "trans women/men", they refer to trans women as "crossdressers" and trans men as "trans men".

I've had to call attention to this in the most convoluted way, going out of my way to thank them profusely for their efforts, positive emojis etc etc, pointing out bits I specifically liked, and only then drawing attention to the issue with this one question. I have to point it out as if it's a minor issue, I have to pretend it was an understandable mistake, I have to let them save face by saying "I'm sure you didn't mean it that way". I have to suggest an alternative to give them an easy fix where they don't have to think. Then I have to thank them again and end the message on a high.

Then I have to patiently listen to their nonsensical excuses, and thank them again for changing the text of their quiz. Then write another appeasing message that characterises their transmisogyny as understandable.

And after all this shit I have had to do because a non-transfem wrote some transmisogynistic nonsense, it is me who is left riddled with anxiety. Because every time I call out something like this, even if I am as meek about it as possible, I am rolling the dice as to whether I will end up being smeared as an unreasonable bully and kicked out of this group (which might be a blessing honestly atp).

It often feels like transmisogyny is 10% abuse and 90% consequences for drawing attention to that abuse. "When you expose a problem you pose a problem" indeed, thank you Sara Ahmed for giving me the language to describe this shit 🙏

again. i did not say you were not oppressed. this post is literally about how you are oppressed. it is a reminder that you are not the most oppressed person in the world, a way i've seen a lot of white transfems acting lately. maybe not even necessarily in a detrimental way, but in a way that definitely leans towards the "white is default" lane of thinking, which erases black suffering, which erases progress towards black safety. this, to me, is troubling, which is why i made this post. it's important when building solidarity within our community to understand who the most vulnerable of us are, because the safety of the most vulnerable of us will ultimately be the safety of all of us.

please do not be offended when you are reminded that your skin is white. im not calling you evil. im asking you to remain aware of yourself.

Thing is that I’m not the only Black trans woman writing theory on transfeminism, Black transfeminism, or trans intersectionality - I’m just lightskinned and won’t shut up so I’m one of the most visible ones, and crackers STILL get mad at me for saying the most basic-ass concepts like “white people are still white even if they’re otherwise marginalized”

In many cases, intracommunity racial intersectionality fails because given the choice between solidarity with nonwhite trans people and white people (trans or cis), white trans people will almost always side with other whites in the hopes of preserving a degraded position within white supremacy, because they internally see being “lesser” within whites supremacy but still above nonwhites as preferable to solidarity with nonwhites that loses them that positionality.
