The levels of traditional Chinese architecture by 扇子有画
I think there is something wrong with this picture. I am the farthest from an expert as possible, but I can't help wondering what mast the bow yard is attached to, how those billowing portside sails would be rigged, and what that mess of yards and rigging is at top of the foremast mainsail.
I will willingly be educated on this!
First Post!
I deleted my old tumblr because... man idk why it was covid-times and the prefrontal cortex was not in the room with us!! Anyways, I was reminded by my lovely friend @repecca that tumblr exists, and that some of my work has been going around on here, so I decided to post some of my work up officially! Starting off with my most notable (?) work to date, here's my LOTR: The Middle Kingdom Project. Now, it's been over a year since I posted this, and at the time I was... really searchingfor myself artistically, and I decided to go all in on something that I'd been ruminating on for a long time.
So, hello, again. I'm Leia. I do visual development/BG design, and I'm also a writer of things. I love fantasy and transformative work. It's nice to meet you.
tragedy is when a man has so much failwife potential & yet gets assigned suave dom by the fandom and isn't allowed to be anything else. chin up king your loser energy is seen and appreciated. by me
I understand logically it's because a huge amount of fandom is a) subs and b) wants to shag the character, so, wishful logic. But I remember being confused back in the Buffy days when people thought *Spike* was in charge of anything...
Childhood at grandma's house by 官凤梨
me when i first started watching cdramas: woah the sets are so beautiful
me watching cdramas now: hey, i know that street. hey, i know that temple. hey, i know that courtyard. hey, i know that gate. hey, i know that tree
Someone pitch a c drama where the plot is just that two producers double booked hengdian studios for their new high budget wuxia dramas and now they're fighting over the sets
There's only one bed set
This is the penultimate from this photoshoot. I am dying to know the conversation, decision making, or whatever that led to these pics looking like... this. 😂

xie lian (tgcf) and li lianhua (mlc) have really similar arcs and i love them both.
both 'start' their journey into the jianghu/public life as proud, arrogant and powerful swordsmen who each feel the need to take on a lot of responsibility to 'look after' the world they're in.
both start with impeccable aesthetics and beautiful sword dances
xie lian breaks the heavenly rules to return to the mortal realm to defend the kingdom of xianle. li xiangyi defies public opinion to sign a peace treaty between sigu sect and jinyuan alliance. both are incredibly arrogant in their physical and political ability to achieve their goals, and it takes a devastating event to occue before they begin to doubt themselves in their grief.
they both have a group of close friends (who trained together and took on the same cultivation paths) at the start who they thought they would go through life and death together forever and ever. they brought these friends along with them in their meteoric rise to fame. yet circumstances pull them apart, their friends deserted them, and they are left alone to face the challenges thrown their way.
once again they take on the burden of all the deaths they think they caused in that One Catastrophic Event to retreat from public life and live a relatively slacker life under multiple fake identities.
xie lian: general hua, feng xin guoshi of yong'an, white no face
li xiangyi: li lianhua (quack miracle doctor)
yet their sense of justice and righteousness pulls them time and time again back into the world they left behind (xl's 3rd ascension + llh solving cases with fdb)
actually, ignore with that sense of righteousness part. they both got pulled into the start of canon events because they were coerced into it (xl's massive debt from his destructive ascension + fdb threatening to report llh to baichuan court)
throughout the main story's timeline, they both willingly subject themselves to punishments that limit their abilities (cursed shackles and bicha poison), and even refuse to get rid of them when given the chance to be freed/cured (xl's second ascension and wangchuan flower).
their personality changed a lot from what people knew in the past, and there's a lot of resistance to their new, maturer old grandpa selves. but they bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience to help the plot chug along merrily while reuniting basically everryone in their generation in a minefield of fermenting unresolved trauma.
also, everyone looks at them and thinks they're the most harmless guy in the group when actually it's just their immense self restraint/guilt that's holding them back from being the entire world's nightmare and taking their rightful place at the top of the world. they could totally do it but choose not to.
special:
they also both have a tall dark and broody guy in red whose speciality is murder and ignoring social conventions in front of everyone the MC used to allies with who has been obsessed with them for a Long Time and recognised them On Sight even when everyone else was still a bit unsure. they both have a special little pet name that only xl/lxy can call them. anyone else who tries would probably get eviscerated
*fdb is a notable exception
so anyway i think llh and xl would be really good friends.
Danmei and Baihe C Novels and Manhua Officially Licensed in English
Things are getting licensed fast enough that keeping a list like this up-to-date is basically impossible, but I saw someone asking in the tags so I figured I'd try. All titles are danmei unless otherwise noted (very little baihe is licensed so far). I've included Chinese titles and linked novelupdates for each title when I was able to find them, but sometimes publishers change the original titles so much that I can't track them down, apologies.
Basically: this is everything I know of as of March 26, 2024. There might be more. I tried.
For the latest danmei news, Danmeinews.com is a great resources.
Note that some of this information was sourced from this Carrd, last updated in March 2023.

A handful of other licenses are mentioned on the Carrd I linked at the beginning of this post; I have no idea the status of those titles and wasn't able to find information on them while putting together this post other than what was listed on that Carrd, so I've omitted them.
As a final note, I've personally purchased from every printer on this list EXCEPT Monogatari Novels (I'm holding off because of the controversy and will see how things play out) and Chaleuria (which I vaguely knew existed but nothing beyond that).
Seven Seas translation varies but the editing is general strong and the editions are sturdy and nice. Extras that have come with final volumes are lovely. I am buying literally everything they publish except for You've Got Mail, due to information about the author that was shared with me that the author is a transphobe. Note that Kinnporsche by Daemi is not danmei as it's Thai (and I've heard unsavory things about the author - I don't have a link for that as the information was shared with me on Discord, and I encourage you to do your own research rather than taking my word for it). No judgement if you make a different choice than me, to be clear, I'm just sharing the information I have and why I personally am not buying the books). Note that Seven Seas isn't without controversy, especially for treating their contractors poorly resulting in them unionizing. Some people have also been unhappy with the fidelity of their translations compared to the original Chinese (I've been satisfied personally but ymmv).
Peach Flower House has inconsistent inconsistent editing quality, but the books are very readable, and I'm excited that they're working with translators such as E. Danglars. I haven't bought any of their special editions so can't speak to their extras, but I've bought all their print translations and will continue to do so going forward.
I just got my first title from Via Lactea last week and finished reading it on Sunday, and the translation read very well and there were minimal errors. It also came with a bundle of cute extras, which I wasn't expecting and pleased, and writing this post has caused me to cave and spend $150 to buy the rest of their books. Thank you, tax refund. (Should I spend this money? No. Did I anyway? ...)
No Rosmei titles have actually shipped yet, so I can't speak to their quality, though the previews they've shared on social media (as outlined here, for example) read decently and I'm optimistic. The cover art is also lovely, and they've been communicative and responsive, for example they've already issued a statement related to a recent controversy over perceived poor marketing for At the World's Mercy.
Tl:dr, the above is absolutely everything I personally know about mlm and wlw Chinese novels and manhua that have been licensed for English publication. I hope it helps someone.
Now go forth, and buy some books!
I was asked on Discord, so just a quickish addition:

Look at this video I stumbled across on youtube- this person made a gorgeously detailed Lotus Tower model and it's cool as hell! And also lights up!
happy lunar new year from the lotus tower trio! (original artist)
Never trusting his boy-next-door act again
I absolutely LOVE how the show presented us Fang Duobing. Like, first thing first, gotta know he has martial arts A++, then we see him eager and start bullshitting to get into Baichuan Yuan, but wait maybe he's not bullshitting? Oh no he's DEFINITELY bullshitting.
He's eager, doesn't hold his tongue, and you can read every emotion he has on his face. He run away from home to not get married bc he's a free spirit made to wander in the Jianghu.
Except he's a brat who left home with two servants and expected to be treated as a young master everywhere he goes, and who had the servants change the very food of the first Inn he arrives in bc its not good enough for him.
It takes him less than 12 hours to fall into troubles. He met Li Lianhua and was ready to admire him forever after the first 5 minutes of knowing him, until he realized the lying bastard he actually is.
So he decides to find Li Lianhua and bring him to Baichuan Yuan to regain the face he lost! Except he spends one (1) day investigating with him and is now ready to wander the Jianghu with Li Lianhua for the rest of his life.
And then, we find out, he wasn't actually bullshitting at the start of the first episode. Li Xiangyi kinda was his shifu, or would've been, if only things were different.
And just like that, two episodes in, and we already love this young brat quick to love and also quick to call you on your bullshit, and who contains multitudes.
I just. I just love him so much okay
A translation and background information I found on the Internet for 扬州慢 yangzhou man, the Song dynasty poem from which Lianhua/Xiangyi’s inner cultivation technique derives its name.
Jiang Kui Poem: Slow Song of Yangzhou – 姜夔《扬州慢·淮左名都》 | Study in China
The Han dynasty poem that inspired Di Feisheng’s 悲风白杨 Beifeng Baiyang:
去者日以疏
By anonymous, Han Dynasty
去者日以疏,来者日以亲。 出郭门直视,但见丘与坟。 古墓犁为田,松柏摧为薪。 白杨多悲风,萧萧愁杀人。 思还故里闾,欲归道无因。
My rough translation (take this which a large pinch of salt because we are reaching the limits of my 文言文 ancient/literary Chinese reading abilities here):
去者日以疏,来者日以亲。
The departed grow distant with the passage of time, while those who come (approach?) feel more intimate with the passing of time.
出郭门直视,但见丘与坟。
Outside the city gates, one sees burial mounds and tombs.
古墓犁为田,松柏摧为薪。
Ancient graves are plowed into farmland, and pine trees are cut into new firewood.
白杨多悲风,萧萧愁杀人。
Poplar trees (usually planted by burial mounds) make melancholy sounds in the wind, and the mournful sound brings feelings of despair.
[Note: Di Feisheng’s inner cultivation technique gets its name from this line: 白(bai)杨(yang)多(duo)悲(bei)风(feng)]
思还故里闾,欲归道无因。
I wish to return home, but I cannot find my way back
(for the last phrase, 无因, I went with the 没有机缘 no chance/opportunity definition from the 汉典 dictionary rather than the 无故/无端 no reason definition. I’m not sure which one was more common in the Han dynasty. But this phrase could also mean “I wish to return home, but I have no reason to”, which would be sad in its own way)
Evening in Beppu, 川瀬巴水 Kawase Hasui, 1929
