We must be clear about the difference between the REASON for veganism (animals) and the BENEFITS of veganism (health, environmental, spiritual, etc.). It is only by being clear about what veganism is (and isn’t) that we can hope to achieve justice for animals.

There’s a special place in hell reserved for those that dump their senior pets at shelters because they don’t want to deal with them anymore
Last night I dreamt I looked through a window and saw an open area that stretched to the horizon. That area was divided into smaller areas, and one of them was an enclosure full of pigs and cows that kept moving up and down. I went down there and watched them as they walked by my side, and then I saw some piled-up corpses in the background. I turned to the person in charge and yelled, “why? All of this is completely unnecessary”. He looked at me with a smile on his face, indifferent. The pigs that walked around me were so full of life, and the vision of the destiny that awaited them was heartbreaking. I screamed out of rage and helplessness. I screamed for every time I'm unable to scream when I’m awake. But the man simply smiled and shrugged. And in the meantime, the pigs and cows kept wandering through the enclosure without the slightest suspicion of what was coming.
Men will call any emotion they don’t want you to have, or that makes them uncomfortable, an “over reaction”.
Don’t listen, you are allowed to feel your feelings and to sort them out in your own time.
When I was training to be a battered women’s advocate, my supervisor said something that really blew my mind:
“You can always assume one thing about your clients; and that is that they are doing their best. Always assume everyone is doing their best. And if they’re having a day where their best just isn’t that great, or their best doesn’t look like your best, you have to be okay with that.”
Any now whenever anyone in my life, either a friend or a client, frustrates me, disappoints me, or pisses me off, I just tell myself They are doing their best. Their best isn’t that great today, but I have days where my best isn’t that great either.
I’m honestly really tired of those posts that are like “this goat/cow/pig/etc thinks he’s a dog!! so silly!” because that’s not what’s happening. All that’s happening is you’re giving the goat/cow/pig/etc an opportunity to relax and be comfortable and forming a bond with them. They don’t “think they’re a dog” they’re just living their life and the only way you can see them as their own entity with thoughts and enjoyments of their own is to compare them to animals that are traditionally pets because you just can’t imagine that a Meat Animal™ could possibly have feelings. The cow is not on the couch because she thinks she’s a dog, she’s on the couch because it is soft and she likes it. The pig is not waiting for food with your dogs because she thinks she’s a dog, she’s ready for dinner and has learned the same things your dogs have: that you will provide it. The goat doesn’t lick your face because he thinks he’s a dog, he licks your face because he likes you and is showing affection. Dogs don’t have a monopoly on feelings they just have the privilege to be seen as having them.
This tweet is spot on…

“Even though Hyphy was born into an egg facility that was labeled “humane” and “free range,” the end of her beak was still seared off when she was just a tiny chick at the hatchery in preparation for a life of confinement. She spent the next year inside a huge warehouse with thousands of other hens held captive for their eggs.
Although Hyphy escaped, she remained physically tormented by the burden of egg production. Unlike her wild counterparts who only lay 10-20 eggs every year, Hyphy was compelled by genetic selection to lay an egg almost every single day. This excessive laying was such an ordeal that she would run around frantically for hours before laying.
To relieve her stress, Hyphy received a hormone implant to shut off her ovaries. Free of the burden of egg production, she can finally enjoy life, basking in the warm sun in between bites of lettuce and fruit. This is Hyphy, a survivor of the egg industry.”

Thinking back on last year I realize how messed up some of the things I thought, said and did were, which means that I’m in a better place now because I can recognize my mistakes and learn from them and keep moving forward. I’m a constant work in progress, and that makes me feel hopeful for the future.

“Go to bed, you’ll feel better in the morning” is the human version of “Turn it off and turn it back on again and it should work”
I listened to this album a lot when I was a depressed adolescent. Then years later, after recovery, I couldn’t listen to it because it brought back all the negative feelings that I experienced when I was depressed. It was an automatic physical reaction. It made me sick. It took me years to stop associating it with those memories and feelings. But the amazing thing is that now, every time I listen to it, I feel incredibly empowered. Because hell, I survived. And it’s like a musical testimonial of my own strength.
I’m not too fond of snakes, but I can’t seem to take the Blunthead Tree Snake seriously.

How are people afraid of snakes; they’re magically ridiculous looking
It’s also called the Chunk-Headed Tree Snake because it’s like a big ol’ chunk on the end of a long stick I guess. I also have a stuffed snake named Chunk after this type of snake :)
