Welcome to The Weight of Scales webcomic!!!

I've been working on the script for this story for over 7 years and have only recently started converting it from prose to a webcomic~!

I'm new to making comics, but I hope you will enjoy this journey alongside me. <3

CW: Paranormal romance, transformations, swearing, blood, sexual situations, CPTSD/mental trauma.

[Synopsis]

Drake, a dragon-man from another world, is met with tragedy just before being transported to Earth by the god of Magic. For what purpose? He will have to find out, but he won't be alone.

Iris, a struggling artist woman, finds him in the woods and does her best to take care of this strange man.

Watch drama unfold as the two quickly find themselves in the middle of a secret conflict over the remaining magic left on Earth between the Free Mages and The Order of Magic.

Will magic be saved? Or will The Order take over and horde all that remains?

The Weight of Scales: Ch.2 p.9

Drake leans against the railing of the apartment complex's second floor. The rain continues to soak his head and arms, but he doesn't mind at the moment.

His head is pounding and he feels dizzy from walking up the stairs. He recalls the last time he felt like this was when he had Mana Sickness as a child.

( If a magical creature is deprived of mana for a long period then they become lethargic and weaken. Some creatures that use Mana as food can even die from this deficiency.)

Iris calls to Drake from within her apartment.

At first, Drake is annoyed by her shouting. Then he realizes she is waiting for him to come inside.

He quickly rises from his leaning spot and passes through the threshold. He tries to motivate himself to push through his pain and get through this day.

A tangle of golden Fate Strings follows Drake into the home, unseen by all, as a breeze blows in from the doorway.

The Weight of Scales Ch2: page 8

Iris swings open the creaky door of her apartment. Then settles into her comfort zone in a flurry of quick, habitual, motions.

She turns on the lights, pulls off her wet boots, hangs up her keys and offloads her bag with a wet *ker-plat*.

Iris stands alone in a state of relief that she has finally returned home.

Drake has not yet followed her inside, so she calls backwards to see what the hold-up is.

(Hello dear readers! I hope you've been having an OK February. It's been quite the task to stay creative with all the... uhhh... *gestures to the collaspse of government in the place I live*... BUT, I will continue to strive for a release schedule of twice a month for this comic.

The Weight of Scales Ch2: pages 6-7

After Iris pantomimes her explanation of the current predicament she pleads with Drake to join her in her apartment.

The rain is relentless and they are both starting to shiver from the cold.

Drake is convinced and tells Iris to lead the way.

One of Iris' neighbors glares at Drake as they pass by in the hallway. Drake sighs that he usually avoids new people for their nasty glares.

The two arrive at Iris' apartment door. She singles out the correct key and unlocks the door.

(Hello from me, Fanimal, the author! So Sorry for the long unintended hiatus. Life was throwing a bunch of curveballs one after the other, so I wasn't able to update the comic. Including having to rebuild my entire computer! So now that *that* is over I am hoping I can get a more regular release schedule going for this comic. I'm thinking of trying to get one or two pages out per month. Not sure if it will be every other week or something, but I know I need to be better at making reading easier for all of you. I have a few buffer pages started now so it should help. See you next update~!)

The Weight of Scales Ch.2 p.5

Iris pantomimes with her hands as she explains how the free clinic is only open for a certain amount of time and how every route she knew of to try to get there was blocked in some way.

Drake remained silent and observed her explanation.

She admits that she panicked as time ran out. So she drove them both to her apartment.

Drake folds his arms and quirks his brow at her.

Iris pleads for Drake not to be mad at her and offers to drive him to the clinic when the weather clears up.

(Hello readers! Did you spot Aether's eyes peeking in when Iris mentioned the road closures? I'm sure they were smirking at the mention of their handiwork. The Weight of Scales Ch.2 p.4

Iris' hesitation puts Drake on guard. He accuses her of setting up a trick or ambush.

Iris stutters as she denies the accusation.

Drake's voice becomes stern and closes the gap between them with deliberate steps.

Iris is startled, but musters the courage to blurt out that she is not tricking Drake.

She throws her arms open as she begins to explain the events that led them to her home.

Invisible strings of fate swirl in the background.

(Hello readers! This is page 2 of 3 for today's update. As a note for all of you: neither character can see Aether's strings of fate at this time. They currently appear to signify that Aether is watching them. Anyway- one more page to go!)

The Weight of Scales Ch.2 p.3

Drake climbs out of Iris' car. He cracks his neck and groans from the stiffness of his muscles after sleeping in a car.

Iris prompts him to follow her down the sidewalk saying her home is just up the stairs ahead.

The two walk along for a moment. Drake coughs lightly from exertion. Then he stops in place.

His voice is filled with confusion as he tries to understand why he is being taken to Iris' home and not a doctor like she had said before.

Iris is hit hard with guilt and slowly turns to Drake. She stammers.

The Weight of Scales: Ch.2 p.2

Iris takes a moment to observe Drake sleeping in the backseat before gently shaking the man awake.

He groans in protest, but drowsily lifts his head. A long yawn escapes him as he tries to politely apologize for falling asleep.

Drake fumbles with the clasp of his seatbelt until an unseen force clicks it open for him.

Then he climbs out of the back seat and into the chilly outside air.

Iris taps her fingers rapidly against the steering wheel to relive some of her anxious energy.

She takes deep breath and sighs as she endeavors to stop procrastinating. Drake will have to be woken up eventually.

Iris climbs out of the driver's seat and walks to the back side door where Drake is sleeping.

She opens the door~

The Observer speaks aloud. They claim that their are on Iris' side, but their face suggests that perhaps their motivations are somewhat motivated by personal interests.

(What might those interests be? You'll have to find out!)

The journey from the prolog chapter to now has taken about a year to create. I've learned so much along the way and I will continue to learn as I go.

I will be taking a hiatus for a while in order to start drawing the pages for Chapter 2. The script is already written, but I have to...y'know... Draw It All now. So bare with me.

The Weight of Scales: Ch.1 p.28

Iris resigns herself to her fate. She decides the only option now is to bring Drake home with her, for now.

She hopes that she doesn't regret this decision.

Drake is still fast asleep in the back seat of her car.

And the observer continues their puppeteering of fate from the world between worlds.

The Weight of Scales: Ch.1 p.27

Iris is furious. Her plan to ditch Drake at the medical clinic is quickly falling apart.

The car ride gets longer and longer as the observer manipulates the environment around Iris.

Poor Drake eventually falls asleep.

The Medical center is about to close, so Iris resigns herself to to her fate.

(Note: if you believe someone might have a concussion, don't let them fall asleep like this before seeing a doctor.)

The observer manipulates the scenario by pulling the fate strings like a grand puppeteer. They chuckle as Iris is forced to try route after route to get to the medical center.

Meanwhile Iris is becoming more frustrated as her plans become unraveled.
