So here’s why Dumbo is literally the saddest Disney movie of all time:

If you boil it down to real world/non-animal facts, it’s about a woman who is having trouble having children even though all she wants is a child. Her friends mock her and pridefully flaunt their own babies. All Mama Jumbo wants is a child to love and care for. She finally gets one and she loves him even though he has a disability. Even when society shuts him out and treats him terribly for his disability, she defends him fiercely and is punished more just for loving her son no matter what and wanting people to see him the way that she sees him instead of just seeing his disability. Then she gets taken away from her baby and has no way to protect him from all of the bad people in the world who are going to use him and hurt him. She has to watch as the baby that she loves so much is broken to pieces by the world. And all she wanted to do was love him.

Then, in spite of everything, her baby turns out to be talented, successful, and loved. Mama Jumbo gets to see the world see Dumbo the way that she always did.

Mama Jumbo is the best Disney mother, because she loves her child unconditionally, no matter what his ability/disability, just because he is alive and he is hers.

Being a parent isn’t about loving your child at their best, it’s about loving them no matter what.
