The Gem Survivor - Chapter 10 Epilogue
The duo peek out of the forest to find themselves on a cliff above the present Pandemonium.
âWow! That is a lot of wasteland.â Flynn notices. âIf I were to look straight ahead from the bottom of the cliff, I swear I wouldnât be able to see the other side of the forest!â
Light stares into the open, with a hint of regret striking him. Why do I have to restore the place that made my life so roughâŠ? Light thinks. Itâs in the past, the other part of Light reassures.
âUhg.â Light finally speaks aloud. âLook at this land. It was once a place of beauty, with every flower standing out on their own, at the same time! But it is dirt and gravel, AND garbage. It smells. Flynn, this will be a long day of restoration.â
Light and Flynn take a walk down the cliff before Flynn can finally sense the smell. The burn from the afternoon sun radiates the wasteland, brewing up a strong stench. They both look at each other in pain.
âDiviesco,â Light casts the spell to calm him. âDiviesco, Diviesco,â Light creates a room sized barrier glowing blue, enclosing Flynn and himself within it.
âUpkius, we make a good pair huh.â Light thinks to himself grinning. âAlright Flynn,â he says. âThis will last a long while, that smell you encountered will be nothing now.â
The smell distracted Lightâs senses. The smell of decay, death, and darkness â he hasnât gotten used to, it makes him sicker than ever before. Light needs to listen, although the kingdom cannot send any signals â it is too dead. Pandemonium is still beating. He recognizes that he has to physically restore the land in order for a full interaction with Pandemonium. The first thing that could be done is leveling the ground and making everything clean. Light splits the vast land into two parts, Light cleans and levels one part, Flynn does the other.
Flynn begins right away with his trash grabber, shovel, and sheer determination. Light heads to his side of the terrain and starts casting a multitude of spells cleaning up his side in a matter of seconds. The sun has already set by the time Light finished. He goes over to check up on Flynn. Light spots Flynnâs slow ineffective process and reminds him that he is able to use magic.Â
âFlynn drop your tool you have there and come to my side for a second,â Light instructs. âYou canât seriously use that for the whole half of this land. There is a spell that is good for mass disintegration and there is another spell that helps with earth control to take out uneven land.â
âGreat! Tell me right now Iâll be able to do them.â Flynn exclaims.
Light says that these mass spells are generally easier to conduct but are much harder to sustain. Flynn might only be able to shred one piece of trash and maybe flatten less than half of a bump - it is all about his stamina and will. The moment when Flynn could conduct the spells over a large area, is evidence of the growth of his will.
Flynn instantly goes into focus, making the same radiant shine that he produced during soul transfer. He focused in the dark night. He focused in the time of  somnolence. His power glows like a blue flame going back into its orange flame state. Deep in the forest behind him, anyone could feel Flynnâs flame of energy. This potent aura lasted only a while before it suddenly shut out. Light catches Flynnâs fall over the uneven and destroyed terrain.
âYouâve bloomed like a flower with an abundance of nutrients, sunlight, and water. Itâs really impressive.â Light whispers as he reads what Flynn thinks. I have to make up for my mistakes, let me be useful. âBut donât push yourself, Iâll set up our tent. Tomorrow we build a castle, a garden, an empire, a new age!â
The Gem Survivor - Chapter 9
Click clack. At the bottom of the temple, the ray of light renews shine through the middle of the temple.
âFlynn, you did well.â Light says as Upkius. Lightâs power to listen to whispers is now amplified. Light knows his purpose from the remains of Upkiusâ soul, but he has to let Flynn know that he is safe. Flynnâs whisper is louder, because sadness reaches out more to Lightâs forbidden magic. Light listens carefully, and now being more mobile and powerful, he takes action quickly. Iâm a failure. Iâm a failure⊠Iâm a failure. Flynnâs whisper repeats over and over again. He takes the stick that used to be his body and notices that the purple gem is gone.
âI guess I have a purple soul.â Light thinks to himself. He goes up the stairs and notices his body weakening. âAck! Right, Iâm still new to this host⊠At least I know where Flynn is.â
SizzleâŠSizzle. Crackle. Flynnâs mind goes into deep thought while cooking Eleroo meat. For once, he doesnât focus on making the perfect meal, he canât focus at all.
âNow would be the time to practice magic,â Flynn recalls. âI guess this why Iâm the lone adventurer, I just endanger others all the time.â Flynn walks with his plate of food, dragging his feet toward his hideout window by the hammock. Each bit of the Eleroo meat gives Flynn a heart wrenching thought, making him eat slower, and slower, and slower.Â
âSomething is draining me, inside and out.â Light stressed. He focuses. âI have to find it inside, itâs in my grasp and I can overcome it in this host.â Light does immense focusing to look deep down. He goes through each layer of emotion, and continues blocking out reality and everything around him. The morning goes out as a blur for Flynn and Light, time passes by slowly.Â
Light heads out after controlling his forbidden magic in Upkiusâ body. Listening to whispers had become less exhausting for Light in Upkiusâ body, since he can naturally handle the forbidden magic. The sun pasted the peak of its time in the day and is now setting. Crunch. Light heads straight to Flynnâs whisper before the light falls. Light walks past each bush and tree in the forest area. He approaches a familiar structure made of wood, the same structure he was in when he first awakened from his slumber. Light walks in and looks around to find Flynn completely absorbed with writing in his journal. Flynn turns around, his instincts tell him there is someone near, but he wasnât expecting Light of all possible people.
âI⊠What? Didnât the spell fail? Sorry for leaving.â Flynn apologizes in shock.
âNo. Flynn, I thank you, and I have been given a purpose now that I have this new body.â Light thanks Flynn from the bottom of his heart. Light has finally learned his purpose, and Flynn made it possible to achieve. Light has to head back to where Pandemonium once was and listen to the empireâs heart. His forbidden magic that has been given since birth, made him born to be a ruler. The heart of the empire calls out to Light, to restore the glory of Pandemonium.
Light holds his hand out. âFlynn, are you up for another adventure? This one will be grand!â Flynnâs eyes shine in excitement, shaking Lightâs hand happily.
âThey donât call me Flynn the Freelancer for nothing!â

The Gem Survivor - Chapter 8
The whisper to Light becomes clearer and more familiar as Flynn thumps down the temple stairs. The temple gains a fresher smell at the lower level. Thud. Flynn takes his last step on the temple stairs and faces toward the beam of light that has been coming through the top of the temple. Flynn sees the light shining on a body that appears still and lifeless. In confusion, Flynn asks Light many questions on why and how this body is here. The body is well preserved, as if it was purposely there. No decaying, no rotting, no smell of death. Light responds to Flynnâs questions several moment later after focusing on the bodyâs whisper.
âThis is the one who made me who I am now⊠Though they whisper so softly. I can only hear whispers from living souls, yet something comes from this person.â Light explains in deep thought then turns to the body. âOh Upkius, the whispers you had didnât lie. That âSorry,â you kept was contradicting to how you were acting. I know now, your body is part of my purpose, you left a part of your own soul in here. I will let my fate unfold properly!â
Flynn begins to sense what has gone on in Lightâs life and feels connected to him. With everything in place, they are ready to do the soul transfer. Light asks Flynn to begin quickly because he can feel the connection between them strengthening. A deep breath echoes up through the dark stone temple. Morphes Spiritem.
A thick green aura rises from Light and brings brightness to the dark temple. The aura carries a purple soul that moves secured within the aura. The aura flows from Flynnâs hands to the host body; transferring the purple soul directly to Upkius. As soon as the purple soul comes in contact with Upkiusâ body, the green aura stops suddenly. The purple vanishes and the temple goes dark again. The light shining through the middle of the temple slowly fades away. The temple is silent once again and a cold breeze goes past Flynn. Flynn with fear in his eyes drops to his knees. He moves slowly to check his bag.
âMy journal⊠All of the crucial things I need to know in soul transfer, and I donât have it!â Flynn panics. Without thought, Flynn hurries back to his hideout with worry filling his mind. He leaves the stick Light once was in the palm of Upkius. He retraces his every step with great precision. The sun hides behind the clouds and the forest trees, slowly going down after each of Flynnâs steps. With every step on the jungle earth, the sky drops into different colours. Time is not on Flynnâs side. The hideout is in Flynnâs sight by the time the sky drops the light. Flynn walks in the hideout hopeless with his head down.
âAnother quest, failed. After my first failure, I was certain I would never make mistakes. I learned magic along the way⊠but I know Iâm never going to use it again. Itâll endanger others.â Flynn says to himself while he prepares to sleep. The moon shows up and Flynn lets out his final yawn before escaping reality.
Chapter Nine
The Gem Survivor - Chapter 7
âFlynn! Bring what you must, we are ready to head out.â Light finally says after the days of hard training. Light has a clear of idea of where he can find a host strong enough to bare his power. Using the forbidden gift over the past days, the whisper from far away was picked up.
âI havenât stayed in my hideout for so long, Iâm usually questing outside.â Flynn says taking Light by hand and heading out. The crunch of dead leaves and grass fills Flynn with enthusiasm. Light says the directions Flynn will have to take, being a bit unsure at points. The morning forest is dense and humid, different than the atmosphere in Flynnâs hideout.
âWhat if you lose the location of the hideout?â Light asks nervously.
âDonât worry. As a long term adventurer, I have a map and a good spatial sense.â Flynn replies confidently. He looks up at the sky which is partially blocked by the tallest trees in the way. He takes his map and proceeds to the location Light has given, with a careful, steady pace. The sun reaches the peak of the sky and each ray bounces off of the earth giving off as much light as possible. Light is soothed by this scene and Flynnâs pace, and listens to the whisper as focused as he can. The whispers that he hears through the forest remind Light of his dark past.
After the transition from late morning to noon, Flynn arrives at a field right outside of the forest. Flynn walks quietly on the rich, low-cut grass, compared to the crunching noises like in the forest. The scene ahead of Flynnâs view appears a bit too perfect, he walks more cautiously avoiding something that he can step on and possibly be harmed by.
âA field in a forest?â Flynn wonders. His adventurer instincts are sharpened walking through the open field beyond the forest trees. Silently making it through the field, Flynn approaches a dark grey temple at the other end of the field. The forest forms a rectangular perimeter closing in the field and temple in one area.
Flynn waits for instruction being a bit nervous of what could happen. Light remains silent, thinking that Flynn already knows what to do. Flynn walks into the open entrance of the temple. Not far from the entrance lies the ray of sunlight from the noon sun shining straight through the middle of the temple.
âFlynn, let me see what is by the light, I feel the whisper emerging from there.â Light demands anxiously.
Click clack. Flynnâs shoes make noise that echoes through the small temple. The noise doesnât continue in that pattern, because Flynnâs adventurer instincts make him hesitate. Flynn gravitates toward the light at the middle and looks down the circular hole on the stone floor.
âIs this really? How did you find such a thing?â Flynn questions in awe. Flynn brings Light near the ray of light. Light looks down in more shock than Flynn.
âThis is impossible⊠This canât be⊠Go down the stairs at the back side of the temple⊠And get ready to conduct the spell.â Light impatiently demands Flynn.

Chapter Seven
The Gem Survivor - Chapter 5
Rays of sunlight spread through the forest and enter the round window, beaming onto Flynnâs eyes. Flynn lets out a huge yawn and stretches before he heads out to the other room in his hideout, which is a kitchen. Flynn lifts up a bag of meat that filled his freezer.
âAh, some Eleroo meat for the day.â Flynn says while preparing his wooden stove. âOh right! I should try some Morphes Spiritem!â Light wakes up and his purple gem glows. He wistfully remembers about all of the human functions he doesnât have while waking up. Overhearing Flynn talk to himself, Light picks up on Flynnâs idea of practicing early. Light begins to think of how he can get to a host body, because Light believes that they will head out sooner than he thinks. SizzleâŠSizzle. Crackle. Flynn focuses on making the perfect dish, ignoring the fact that Light is awake. Flynn quickly eats after taking a long time cooking. He walks to his artifact collection where Light was left.
âHey,â Light says annoyed. âLetâs start practicing, write or something to remember my tips for today.â
âIâll write in my journal!â Flynn exclaims.
The first half of the day progresses slowly as Light teaches Flynn some crucial magic techniques. Eager to test it, Flynn has been slowly focusing up power for when he can start casting Morphes Spiritem. The sun starts fading off between the trees and Flynn pulls the string to turn on the light. He set out the two objects he used before, just a different ball, a blue one. On the spur of the moment, a conclusion struck light.
âYou used Diviesco while holding me. When you do my soul transfer youâll be able to hold me.â Light explains. âMaybe as your, uh⊠Spirit weapon, I could amplify your magic ability. Turning that fifty-fifty chance into a possible sixty-forty chance!â
Flynn picks up Light quickly in favor of his great idea and prepares to cast. Light is amazed with the magic power he felt from Flynn. Combining magical forces, Flynn also felt the energy of Light. Morphes Spiritem.
Holding Light, Flynn accidentally focuses the spell between Light and the branch. The green glow carries Lightâs soul directly to the thin stick. The branch glows and a purple gem forms at the top of the branch. The green aura leaves after the gem forms and the staff that Flynn holds has lost the gem.
Gulp. âI-I-I didn ââ
âFlynnâŠâ A noise comes from the stick with the purple gem. âThis isnât at all close to what you were supposed to do.â Light scolds Flynn, while keeping a bit of cool.
âI suppose you did well, I think the chances were higher with my help.â Light says. âWe have to do more work though.â
The moon was high up, marking a full twelve hours from Lightâs last time sleeping. The duo worked hard with efficiently casting spell, without losing too much energy.
Huff. Puff. Huff. âLight, how do you use up less power. Iâm always exhaustedâŠâ Flynn remarks.
âIt takes time,â Light bluntly responds. âYou canât learn to properly ride a horse in one or two days and expect to be a professional. Even when you get your balance, you are still lacking efficiency. Efficiency comes with many days of practice, like swimming or playing an instrument.â It was several days before Light and Flynn had developed a stronger soul transfer technique.
Chapter Six
The Gem Survivor - Chapter 4
A loud deep breath comes out from the eager explorer. Holding Light in his hands, Flynn feels much stronger. âDiviesco.â Flynn casts the spell.
Light, who was anxious to train Flynn quickly, calmed down on the inside.
âAhhh, great work Flynn,â Light acknowledged. The spell was executed so well that Light felt that Flynn has the potential power to start soul transfer training. Light continued to magically glow a calming shade of blue before he finally spoke up again.
âIâll head straight to the soul transfer training at this point!â Light exclaims in awe. He begins to explain the soul transfer procedure, remembering what happened before his slumber. The word of Upkius being Morphes Spiritem. Being an advanced wizard at one point, Light remembers that there is a drawback to soul transfer magic. Flynn pants and tries to control the volume of his breath as Light goes into his lengthy explanation. Flynnâs first attempt at magic was too dreadful, although Light does not acknowledge this because he started off with ease. A big worry crosses Flynnâs mind after Light mentions the drawback.
âThere is a fifty-fifty chance of the spell succeeding,â Light hesitates to clarify. âThe most you can do, is preform it right. Increasing the chances comes with years of experience or other methods which are unclear.â
Eager but tired, Flynn quickly goes into his focusing state. Without instruction, he grabs a red ball and a thin long stick off of the dark blue stained brown carpet, placing it on the wooden desk in the room. With inanimate objects, soul transfer success is noticeable with a change in colour. Huff. Puff. Huff⊠Gulp. Morphes Spiritem. The ball glows green and then the ball gradually turns white. The red colour of the ball travels through the green glow like bacteria on a petri dish, and the green aura flows directly to the long stick. The stick glows for two seconds â no change in colour. Flynn breaks a sweat and clinches his heart region in pain.
âArgg, Aaah!â Flynn lays on the ground gasping for air.
âHey.â Light calls out to Flynn from the ground. âYou should really listen to instructions next time⊠I mean, I didnât even give them now did I?â Flynn stares into Lightâs gem with a worried look.
âItâs okay⊠just rest.â Light says while looking into Flynnâs thoughts. âNo more magic for you today, itâs only your first day.â Flynn drags his body over to the hammock by his hideout window while carefully putting Light away with the last ounce of strength he has. The view outside of the window shows a green forest with varieties of trees baring the homes of many different animals. Light is left leaning on the wall near the wooden desk, next to many other artifacts. A golden totem stands out the most, reflecting the light bulbâs gleam from the ceiling. Flynn pulls the string hanging near his hammock, the light goes out and he heads to bed without saying a word. He knocks out almost instantly. The window by Flynn gives off limited amounts of light that reflects from the moon. Light still feels like the bird in the cage, but this time he can sleep sound.
âSo this is how my life will continue to be⊠Glad I have the right person to help!â Light says to himself before sleeping.

ASK ME QUESTIONS!
The Gem Survivor - Chapter 3
The gem of the staff creates a glowing aura and Light comes to his senses, unable to feel his arms and legs.
âWhere is this? When is this? I feel so weird not being able to move, but being able to see. I thought I was incinerated to death, why am I alive?â Light questions amazed. âAM I IN THE AFTERLIFE?!â Â An adventurer with beige shorts and a beige polo stares at Light in pure amazement, puzzled by what Light said. Witnessing Light awaken in his sight, he becomes intrigued by Light. The forbidden gift is put back into work as Light reads this adventurer.
âI see you are Flynn, the one who happened to acquire me.â Light states. He continues to use his forbidden magic to learn more about Flynn, while revealing it to him aloud. Flynn is speechless listening. Light knows that he cannot do much in his present state, he needs Flynn to cooperate with him. Still in amazement, Flynn is convinced that Light is his spirit weapon after revealing so much information about himself.
âNo doubt I picked up my spirit weapon 4 years ago!â Flynn expresses. He walks around his dull messy hideout to grab a journal under a pile of beige shorts and beige polos. Flynn paces himself back and forth while writing. Scritch scratch⊠Scribble. Flynn takes his time in writing the perfect journal entry before going back to Light. In the state of being an immobile staff, Light gets annoyed at how Flynn suddenly leaves not saying anything.
Light throws himself into a stage of thinking after analyzing how terrible his situation is. âThis is probably going to be the most difficult task of my life. Being a staff is already difficult enough, but this person just had to meet up with me. Though I do have a purpose, and I have a sense of what needs to be done. If I can just get Flynn to list-â
Click clack. Lightâs inner thoughts are interrupted when he sees a figure rushing toward him. Flynn hurries over to Light after filling an entire page with words.
âAlright spirit weapon, let me properly introduce myself. As you know my name is Flynn. However, I am the Flynn. The freelance adventurer who takes on the most dangerous, but most adventurous quests. Iâm actually really curious of how it is to be a weapon, tell me all about yourself!â Flynn discloses.
âUm, look⊠I just need help. This is kind of like a quest, Iâll be teaching you magic along the way!â Light desperately conveys. Eagerly waiting for a positive response, Light, using his gift with freewill, checks Flynnâs thoughts for an answer.
âMAGIC?! A STAFF TEACHING ME MAGIC?â Flynn thinks. âBut then again, how do I know who or what this staff really isâŠâ Flynn scratches his head thinking even though he has a somewhat clear answer. After pacing back and forth once, Flynn thinks about it again briefly, and agreed to help Light with little hesitation.
âPerfect! In brief, our main objective is to take me to a host body and use soul transfer magic.â Light quickly explains.
âA what? Actually never mind, just get started on teaching me stuff.â Flynn responds fully clueless. The first thing that had to be done was introduce basic magic. The sun was still well on its way to setting, Light begins Flynnâs training right away.
âMagic is a very complex idea. In my era-â Light says before he starts thinking. âMy question is, what time period am I in. That doesnât matter right now, let me just finish this.â
Light continues his explanation âA wise man saw that the concept of magical power dwells in all of us,â Light glances into Flynnâs power Light quickly and is not impressed. âSome are more suited than others⊠We use focus to get this power to become usable, like a rechargeable battery, for magic!â he commented. Â
âI want you to think hard about your power to get your inner energy flowing.â Light instructs Flynn carefully. Flynn shuts his eyes and puts his hands together, breathing slowly. Light checks his heart to find a very weak power - as he expected.
âBasically, you use magic by taking that focus, and saying the spell name. When aiming your spell, try to look at what you want or point your open palms at what you want to cast the spell on.â Light explains. âWe could start with a spell to increase patience â Diviesco. Cast it on me and Iâll tell you how you did.â
Chapter Four
The Gem Survivor - Chapter 2
Lightâs stamina is strained by dragging around the ball cuffed to his foot. He is pushed from his back by the guards so they can arrive on time. Light continues to drag his foot, looking up at the huge castle in his view. Crunch. The gravel path takes a final turn before extending to the castle. The back gate of the stone castle unravels. The chain is pulled and Light limps going inside, ignoring the whispers of everyone around him â he is controlling his magic that is normally uncalled for. The back of the castle is dark and only lit with a few torches, a familiar feeling for Light. He is faced with the last flight of stairs he will go up, that leads to the throne room. Huff. Puff. Lightâs posture is slouched over with his hands on his knees, breathing heavily after lifting everything on him up the steep staircase. He is having trouble catching his breath, and ignores all in front of him. Coming back to his senses, Light realizes he is before the bearer of his death.
âLight.â A voice called out in a firm tone. âYou have no idea how terrible it is to wield such power.â Light does not fight back, knowing it will be useless. He flashes back to the trial he had before the death sentence. Light knows that no one would hear him out. While in deep thought, he overhears the whispers of the wizard before him, whose name was made out to be Upkius.
âItâs only an order. Itâs only an order.â Upkiusâ heart whispers.
âAny last words?â Upkius says aggressively. Like most moments, Light doesnât have many words.
âVery well then.â Upkius says. Light keeps a straight face masking his anger. Upkius brings a long wooden staff accented with a purple gem at the top. His preparations were complete for Lightâs punishment of death. Lightâs life flashes before his eyes.
âSorry.â Upkiusâ heart calls out while Light is being scorched into flames. Light for once, broke his silence as the heat took over his fragile body. Cries of pain arise from Light. Upkius takes the wooden staff and begins his final spell. A green flowing aura transfers from Light to the staff as Upkius conducts Morphes Spiritem. Lightâs cry is put to an end as the green aura reaches the staff. Lightâs flaming body falls on the concrete floor of the castle throne room. The sunset makes the castle darker as it fades into a purple sky. King Rylai enters the room once Lightâs final cry was let out.
âExcellent job Upkius, I couldnât expect any better.â King Rylai congratulates Upkius taking a glance at Lights lifeless body. The gold chains decorated on King Rylaiâs robe shimmers on the concrete floor as he heads to the throne to sit. Before Light realized he was spared, he heard Upkiusâ heart.
âIâm not going to find myself ending others. Light, if you listen up, you do have a purpose.â
Upkius wonders about why the king wasnât present during Lightâs execution. âLight can hear peoples heart, the king might be hiding something.â Upkius thinks to himself. âI suppose Iâm just overthinking, a lot has happened recently. I feel no guilt for keeping Light alive instead killing him, because I know he has a purpose in this world.â
Upkius keeps the staff with Light sealed inside for as long as he can. Pandemonium felt safer for King Rylai to rule, because of Lightâs absence. After Lightâs body is put away and the room was cleaned up, King Rylai questions Upkius. âUpkius my great pupil, what is the purpose of that staff. Iâve seen you use it when executing Light... Couldnât you work your magic without it?.â
âKing Rylai, to ensure that Light cannot come back to this world, this staff ensures his death.â Upkius explains showing concealed signs of nervousness.
âVery well.â Says King Rylai. âLet us get back to our regular duties.â
The kingdom of Pandemonium went through the Age of War as a supporting nation, conspiring with the forces from Satyr. The Battle of Stanislas took many of the Pandemonium forces, where the kingdom then became involved. Pandemonium had more numbers, but less advantage. Over three thousand were killed and almost one thousand captured - King Rylai was executed. The kingdom took too much damage from the battle in the war, and the opposing force was able to take down the physical empire of Pandemonium with magic. The kingdom faltered and the land is now abandoned and remembered by only a few to this day. Months, years and centuries later a staff is found in the wilderness of a jungle.
