Tohru is a Sohma / part God
I have a theory, that Tohru’s paternal grandmother, is a Sohma. Manga spoilers ahead!
To explain, I don’t mean she’s a zodiac member, but is part of the larger portion of the family that lived outside the compound. Tohru’s father, Katsuya, looks so much like a Sohma, it’s not even funny. It’s only mentioned that his mother passed from illness, she is never named or brought up after that. She probably told Katsuya the family’s zodiac story as a child, who then went on to tell Kyoko who very obviously told, Tohru.
This theory goes hand in hand with the “Tohru is God” theory. Akito is still very much their God. “The Bond” made that very clear. But as the spirits of the zodiac grew weaker, every generation, (Rooster to bird, Dragon to Seahorse) I think so did God, and that his personality was split in two.
The zodiac members are just as drawn to Tohru as they are to Akito. It’s even noted by Uotani, that “Kyo has a hard time saying no to Tohru.“ Basically, Akito and Tohru are two sides of the same coin.
Side note: I hesitate saying they were split into good and evil as I don’t think Akito was evil. Their perception of the "bond” was twisted and warped by promises made by their Father of unconditional love, forever and their Mother contradicting that by saying the bond was a lie. But I digress.
In conclusion, Since this is a Sohma curse through blood, I believe Tohru’s great grandmother Honda, was in fact a Sohma.
