Singer!Denki x ChildhoodBestFriend!Reader
Reader and Denki live in a place near the beach (I was thinking Australia, but feel free to choose wherever you want). Also, reader is in college.
a/n: I rewrote this story with a ton of endings, so let me know if you like this type of story! I’m obsessed with singer Denki. I imagine Denki making the type of music Chase Atlantic makes, and he would do that gorgeous guitar solo at the end of Like Animals by BTS. Anyway, enjoy!
Your eraser taps against your paper as you stare at your homework. How were you supposed to do this? You’ve been staring at your paper for hours, but no matter how hard you try, you just can’t-
You grab your phone, your mood immediately lighting up at the name. You answer, and your best friend's face fills the screen. “Hey N/N!” Denki says, drying his hair with a towel.
All the stress from your seemingly endless homework feels like it melts away when you see him. “Hey, Denks. What’s up?”
He shakes his head, running his fingers through his lightning blonde hair. “Tired. Touring is exhausting.” He flops down on his bed, grabbing a pillow and looking at the camera. “I miss you, N/N.”
You smile, laying down in your own bed. “Aw, I’m sure you don’t miss me too much. When you aren’t out singing, you’re out partying all the time, surrounded by celebrities, fans, girls who want nothing more than a chance with you…”
“No, I miss my best friend. I just… I just wish you would come with me.” He pouts, burrowing his face in his pillow. You glance at your desk, where homework awaits. “You know I can’t. I have school, I can’t just travel around with you.” You say, your voice getting softer.
He looks up from his pillow sadly. “But I’ve offered you jobs on my team. You could just drop out of college, take up a job with me and-“
“You know my parents would never let me drop out of college, Denks.” You say, and he groans, nodding his head. Your parents have always been strict on your school work, pushing you for near perfect grades. If you decided to drop out of school? You don’t even want to think about what would happen.
“I still have a couple more shows before I’m set to go home. Just a few more weeks.” He whispers, and you close your eyes. A few more weeks of hell while you’re waiting for the one person who can make it all better to come home.
“How’s school been, anyways?” Denki asks, breaking the silence. “Stressful. My teachers are terrible, so I basically have to teach myself the entire curriculum. Plus, everyone in my classes is terrible. They’re all rude and annoying. I have, like, three friends.” You rant, and he nods.
Throughout your childhoods, of course you guys had friends, but you never felt urgency in it because you two had each other. Now, he’s halfway across the world while you’re stuck in college with people you can’t stand.
“This stupid blond guy is always trying to cause a fight, and it’s so annoying. Though, his red head friend is really nice. Kinda cute too…”
Denki lifts his head, his eyebrows furrowing. “What?”
“His friend. His name is Eijiro Kirishima. He’s always been really nice to me. He even sits next to me during class so I don’t have to sit alone. He’s also really cute.” You explain, and Denki pouts, throwing his face on his pillow.
“Mmm mhm mmm mmmhm hmmmm mhh hhm.” He mumbles into the pillow. “What did you say?”
“I’m sure this Kirishima guy isn’t that great.” He says, looking up at you through the screen. The pouting look on his face makes you giggle. “Aww, are you jealous, Denki?” You tease, and a blush covers his face.
“No. I just don’t think that Kirishima guy can be that good.” He says. He closes his eyes and yawns, hugging the pillow closer to him. You smile softly at the sight of your sleepy best friend. “Go to sleep, Denks. You’ve been working so hard over the past few months, you need your sleep.”
“Stay with me?” He mumbles, staring tiredly at you. You reach over to turn off the lamp next to your bed, laying down. Your homework can wait for another time. “Ok.” You whisper.
Denki grabs his luggage from the bag pick up, rubbing his eyes tiredly. After a seven month tour, he’s finally home. While he would love to go home and sleep, there’s something he wants to do even more. His uber pulls up and he gets in, giving the driver an address.
He bounces his leg up and down excitedly, staring out the window. He hasn’t been home in months. He loved his job, singing was the thing he loved doing the most, but he got homesick while on tours. He missed his parents, his dog, his friends, you…
The uber stops in front of a house, and Denki grabs his stuff, thanking the driver. He walks up to the front door, taking a deep breath and knocking. He plays with his bracelet anxiously, waiting for the door to open.
“Denki?” A voice says as she opens the door. His heart starts beating faster, until he sees your moms face. He smiles regardless, “Hey, M/N.”
Your mom walks forward, pulling him into a hug. Since you two practically lived at each other's houses, you guys essentially had two sets of parents. “Y/N is gonna be so happy you’re home.” She says, moving away so he can come in.
He smiles at your name. “Speaking of her, where is she?” He asks, setting his bags down next to the door. She puts her hand over her heart. “So you weren’t here to see me? Oh, I’m devastated."
He panics, shaking his head. “No, I’m so excited to see you, I just-“
Your mom laughs, waving her hand dismissively. “I knew you were here for her. She’s at the beach. Your spot.” Your mom says, and he nods. He thanks her, and turns to head to the beach.
Throughout your childhood, you would get in trouble a lot. And when that would happen, you would always run to Denki’s house. One day, after a particularly bad argument with your mom, you had run to Denki’s house, and the two of you had decided to go to the beach to calm you down. You had always loved the water, and were at the beach all the time.
As you were walking down the sand, you reached the large rock wall that stopped you from going any farther. “What do you think’s on the other side?” You ask, tapping the wall with your fingers.
“Want to find out?” Denki says, smiling playfully. Before you can react, he’s already climbing the wall.
“Denki! You’re going to get hurt!” You yell, watching as he scaled the wall. Denki begins to deny, before his foot slips. You gasp, but he catches himself. He looks down, smirking. “See? I’m fine!”
He makes it to the top, and you see his jaw drop. “N/N! You have to get up here!” He yells. You hesitantly start to climb up, grabbing onto the tiny crevasses to pull yourself up. Once you get near the top, he grabs your hand to pull you up. “Look.” He whispers, and your jaw drops.
Surrounded by rocks, there’s a beautiful, seemingly untouched cove. Beautiful sand, crystal clean water… “It's gorgeous.” You whisper. How had you never known this was here?
Over the next few months, the two of you would come a couple times every week to explore the cove, and eventually the two of you began making a small path through the greenery surrounding it so you wouldn’t have to climb the rock wall every time you wanted to go to the beach.
“Finally!” Denki exclaims, falling into the sand in exhaustion. You sit down next to him, admiring the path the two of you had made to the beach. He sits up, resting his head on your shoulder.
Finally, finally, the two of you have a place just for the two of you.
You watch the waves crash on the rocks, resting your head on your knees. When the stress of school gets too much, you always come here. It reminds you of the happiest parts of your childhood.
Behind you, you hear footsteps. You turn around, and your jaw drops. Standing there… the blonde hair.. electric eyes… playful smile….
Before you can think, you're running towards him, wrapping your arms around his neck. “I didn’t know you were coming home so soon.” You whisper, and he smiles, running a hand through your hair.
You pull away, cupping his face. He leans into your hand, smiling. “God, I missed you.”
“You sap.” You laugh, shaking your head. He pouts playfully. “What, I can’t miss my best friend?”
Silence falls between the two of you. “N/N…” he whispers.
Your eyebrows furrow in confusion. “What?”
“This… this thing we've been doing. We act like this, act like we’re something more, just to say we’re best friends. I’m tired, N/N.” He says, running his fingers across your jaw. “I’m tired of pretending I’m not in love with you.”
Chills run down your spine at his sudden confession. He’s right. You know he is. You've been doing this for years, but neither of you have ever been brave enough to do anything about it,
“I love you, Y/N. I have since we were teenagers. And I’m tired of pretending I’m not.” He looks anxiously at you. You take a deep breath, and Denki’s eyes widen in panic.
“I’m sorry, can we just pretend-“
You press your lips against his, cutting him off. He stiffens for a second, before he lets out a soft groan. He’s dreamed of this moment for years. And now that it’s real?
It's even better than he imagined.
Your fingers run through his hair, pressing your body against his. His fingers dig into your waist, growing more and more desperate.
You both pull away, catching your breath. You can feel your heart pounding in your skull, but the boy in front of you is all that matters.
The boy you’ve known for years.
The boy who has seen you through every phase of your life.
The boy who would do anything to make you happy.
The boy you love, and have loved since you were a teen.
“So?” You ask, and he tilts his head playfully. “So?”
“You had this whole big confession, and yet no plans to ask me to be your girlfriend?” You tease, pushing his chest softly. He grins, pulling you back.
“Y/N L/N, I love you. Would you consider letting a dunce like me be your boyfriend?” He asks, and you lean forward, kissing him softly.
“There’s nothing I’d love more.”
