Dear young people, we didn’t come into this work to “vegetate”, to take it easy, to make our lives a comfortable sofa to fall asleep on. We came for another reason: to leave a mark. It is very sad to pass through life without leaving a mark. But when we opt for ease and convenience, for confusing happiness with consumption, then we end up paying a high price indeed: we lose our freedom… Blaze trails that open up new horizons capable of spreading joy, the joy that is born of God’s love and wells up in your hearts with every act of mercy. To take the path of the “craziness” of our God, who teaches us to encounter him in the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the sick, the friend in trouble, the prisoner, the refugee and the migrant, and our neighbours who feel abandoned. To take the path of our God, who encourages us to be politicians, thinkers, social activists… He is encouraging you to dream… Life nowadays tells us that it is much easier to concentrate on what divides us, what keeps us apart. People try to make us believe that being closed in on ourselves is the best way to keep safe from harm. Today, we adults need you to teach us how to live in diversity, in dialogue, to experience multiculturalism not as a threat but an opportunity. Have the courage to teach us that it is easier to build bridges than walls! Do you want others to decide your future? Or do you want to fight for your future?
Pope Francis, World Youth Day (via itsthecrescendo)
I strongly suspect that if we saw all the difference even the tiniest of our prayers to God make, and all the people those little prayers were destined to affect, and all the consequences of those effects down through the centuries, we would be so paralyzed with awe at the power of prayer that we would be unable to get up off our knees for the rest of our lives.
Peter kreeft (via itsthecrescendo)
7In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard for his godly fear.8Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered;9and being made perfect he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,
Hebrews 5:7-9
To be a young Catholic today
Is'nt easy...to put it bluntly.
This is because to be a Catholic, a Christian, a believer in Jesus Christ directly contradicts the world and the conventions of the society around us.
By definition, this name calls us to live a life that utterly does our best to fulfill the greatest commandment: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself."
Sometimes hearing that commandment rolls off the tongue because it is something we know so quickly like, 2+2=4 or after A comes B then C. It's something that becomes instinctive, just like prayers which are pillars of our faith.
When we think of these commandments it their most literal term, it is asking for our belief in God to utterly consume us and be every breathe we take. Loving God would become our existence and reason for being. Sounds radical, but that's precisely what Jesus tells us to do. To live a life of faith is to live radically. Radical love.
It's against the grain of mainstream discourses that tell us to love ourselves. Whilst it can be a positive confidence building mantra, if it's the only mantra dominant, then thinking selflessly and putting the desire to serve first becomes difficult.
If we're constantly fueled with "believe in you" where is the space to believe in God?
If we're constantly fueled with phrases on ambition and pursuit of money, where is the space for humility?
To give up our time and efforts to think about the poor...and I mean really pray for the poor, give time to the poor, and put ourselves in a position of poverty (even if it is for a brief 40 day period of fasting once a week for Lent) is difficult to do nowadays. 'Poverty' is such a vast and engulfing word too, sociologically one thinks of it in both economically 'absolute' and 'relative' terms but one can also be spiritually impoverished. How can we as young Catholics deal with these issues realistically, with tact, intelligence, humility and love?
We have to remember that God has chosen us. It is not the other way around.
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit--fruit that will last--and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
If we practice asking God for the desire to love him more, and the ability to die to our own selfish wants then we can make steps, leaps, in faith.
This is a message to inspire and offer support. To say that yes, I know, to be a young Catholic is not always easy, there are controversies all the time in public affairs, politics and interrogation from non-beleivers. It may even be condemnation from those that are even closest to you.... But we always have Jesus at our side and can always be encouraged by Jesus' word:
John 15:18-27
King James Version (KJV)
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.
John 16:33
King James Version (KJV)
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Stay encouraged, and please continue to send messages if need be.

"Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity."
1 Timothy 4:12 (via renovatedheart)
A faith lived deeply and with conviction tends to open itself to proclaiming the Gospel far and wide.
Pope Francis
Anyone planning on going to the next World Youth Day in Poland 2016?
How much inequality there is in the world! What hunger for food and for truth! What moral and material poverty stem from the rejection of God and from replacing him with so many idols! Let us be guided by these Ten Words that enlighten and direct those who seek peace, justice and dignity.
What's your language of love?
We all have different ways we express and understand love. For some they need to hear it. Having that auditory reminder is the daily reminder they require to know that they are loved. For others it's through provision. Some know they are loved when they see affections like food, shelter, financial aid of education provided for them. Whilst others prefer physical signs of affection like holding hands, hugging or kissing with the privacy of a relationship or in front of others to display that love. I've come to see over time that I best understand that someone loves me through their investment of time and commitment to our relationship. Ultimately I view loyalty as the best indicator of someone loving me. As humans we all have ways of pinpointing the signs that show someone else loves us, and equally we have out little ways that show to others that we do. We each have our capacities and comfort zones of love because that is all that we are humanly capable of. The beautiful thing about God and his great love is all of those things listed and more. He doesn't have limits to how he loves. He doesn't pick and choose how and when he wants to show it. He is the author of love. His love is: sacrificial, empathetic, comforting, disciplinary, passionate, affectionate, proud, patient, kind, committed, forgiving, warm, compassionate, limitless. Gods love is limitless. And believe it or not, regardless of what you feel you have failed to prove or have yet to accomplish...he couldn't love you more than he does right now. Fact: Do you know that it is humanly impossible to count the numbers of hair on your head? Truth: Jesus said- "But even the hairs of your head are all numbered... So do not fear; you are worth more than many sparrows. Therefore whoever acknowledges Me before men, I will also acknowledge him before My Father who is in heaven. (The Gospel according to Matthew 10:30-32 TLV)" God loves us in an engrossed way, he pays attention to every second we live out lives. Stop, pause, and accept. Allow for that love to flow into your life and it feels like bathing in the sun and absorbing goodness. So what is your 'love language'? Think about what it is and how you show others that you care. But most importantly, how can we love in the way Jesus taught us to because that is what he came to earth to teach us

God, you center me.
"When I fall from the grace from the glory and lose all my faith again. And you say nothing's gonna be perfect. Perfect's all in your mind, and all these demons I can't give up this fight. But I know, that you center me and I know that you center me. When I lose my way, when anger fills my soul, when I get too high on myself and when it gets too cold oh I know you'll bring me back to life, I know you'll make it seem alright, alright. "
