Reading Batman: The Cult again, and I really love how the narration is making it seems like maybe the bad guy is right, maybe killing criminals is the solution and Batman is wrong. Look, people are happy, they are avenging victims, even Batman is agreeing now.
And then, they brutally murder a black teenager because he was running drugs to support his mother and pay for his future art school. They spend a whole page describing to you this kid's dream before he is jumped and killed. And after that, a black man is brutally murdered too for the sole crime of dating a white woman, and he is painted by his murderer as a pimp when he is not. The message is clear: killing criminals will lead to killing black people.
They don't spell it out, but they are pointing out the racism behind the violence toward criminals and the death penalty. The system will paint the most innocent black man as a criminal so they can hurt and kill him. It will kill black children in needs instead of helping them. It will target black people who are doing small crimes to survive because the racist system put them at a disadvantage and says they are the root of violence and crimes in the country.
And maybe I'm biased, because I live in a country where the death penalty was abolished by a survivor of the Holocaust, on the principle that it was a tool for fascism and racism, and only the racist far-right wants it back. But I like the "Isn't killing criminals great? Sike, that was a trap, you racist."
up to volume 3 in my empowered re-read, and mr. warren's endless array of creative situations for emp to be put in is inspirational tbh
I think those ones were commissions originally. But I still agree.
Bucket list commission for @/realryanwhorton on Twitter!
Just as a quick note in case this leaves The Circle the artist (me) is aroace and he cleared it with me first. I thought the joke was in character and honestly a bit relatable. Kiss a bro for the meme.
YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!! Empowered on timeline now i have finally ascended!
I'm reading Empowered by James Warren. It's largely funny gag humour about how the main character's power granting super suit keeps getting torn and depowering her at the drop of a hat, and she always gets tied up by the villains to be a laughingstock.
Yes, this did start as fetish art.
Anyway, it's lots of laughs and titillation and weird powers like the guy with a cinder block for a head.
And then there's Willy Pete, a fire elemental supervillain who likes to eat superhuman flesh because it cooks just right instead of burning to ash right away. And that's not the worst he does...
It's so bizarre, the final whiplash is nuts.
Anyway, I do genuinely unironically enjoy this series. Probably post more thoughts later.
I love that Dickbats only has two settings. You've got "miserable prettyboy" or "some terrifying Creature." Peak character design
Let Peter look like a man and be hot again!

Claiming that reading smut is the exact same as pornographic videos & imagery is just pure stupidity .
There are major differences between the two forms of pornographic media that I would like to point out !
Let’s look at the basic, dictionary definition of pornography : “ material (such as books, movies, or photographs) that depicts erotic behavior and is intended to cause sexual excitement ”
visual pornographic media ( yes , including 🟧⬛️ ) is often marketed towards mentally ill individuals , depressed individuals & children ; which is very different than those tumblr & wattpad fanfics that teenagers read .
Alongside my main point , I don’t know that many readers who would read an entire book or fanfic for the sole purpose of the sexual content , despite the media most likely having more than that .
And even if it’s “ no plot just smut ” , it’s still usually marketed very differently than pornographic movies & pictures .
The whole ideology that “viewing pornography while in a relationship is wrong” stems from the fact that many women have claimed to feel ignored while their significant other is looking at another person’s body whilst they are right there ; which means that this wouldn’t apply to smut due to the following factor that you aren’t looking at someone else’s body .
While I’m not telling you to not respect your significant other who is asking you if you could stop reading smut, or that written pornographic content isn’t “real” pornography;
I’m simply pointing out that there’s major differences between written pornographic media and visual pornographic media.
