If never ceases to amaze me how good Siobhan is at putting together outfits that, not only make her look like the character, but give off the characters vibe. Like, when she’s wearing an outfit to dress as/reflect her character, I feel like I already understand the character on a deeper level just from the intro. Especially in season premiere episodes!!
Now, I’ll preface this by saying that I’m not a theater kid (neither tech nor actor) and I know nothing more about how theater works than the average person. But anytime I see her premiere-episode outfit, I feel like I’m watching the work of a costume designer. I don’t mean “she’s dressing as her character and that’s therefore a costume.” I mean that her outfits always interact with the season in the same way that costumes interact with a play.
Like, costumes are part of both the character and the set. When costume designers are in their process of making the costume, they have to consider the characters personality, motivations, and general taste. AND. They have to consider the time period, genre, theme, and location of the story, in the same way set designers do, to make sure the costume and set matches up. They have to consider ALL of that so that they can use costumes a way to visually contribute to the progression of the narrative.
When I see Siobhan’s outfits, I see all that. Not only do her outfits reflect her character, but they always match/compliment the set, and her outfit’s always set the tone of the campaign in the same way that the background does.
Basically, fashion is an art and she knows how to wield the cloth like a priest on a Sunday morning (get it? “Man of the cloth”?…I’ll see myself out)
