Star Detective Precure!
the joy of finding a new friend candidate makes giselle push any notions of rudeness out of the window. some people were just more blunt, and they'd enjoyed their respective ice creams fine. besides, luluka was too cute to be mean on purpose (she's sure).
"huh?" giselle's head whips back at the news, surprised. "really?! but 'more effort' like how—are we getting graded or something?"
to her it wasn't a stretch. back in her world they were always getting lectured on how well they fought the monsters, plus there were tests on teamwork and other real-life applications of typical school things.
"ollie says the city needs our help sometimes, so like, do we volunteer or what?"
"...aren't we going to starve if they don't pay us? i can't just eat free soup all the time..."
✦ Luluka was used to people considering her mature for her age. After all, when she had become a Meitantei Precure two years ago, she'd only been fourteen yet she'd been allowed to do plenty of things no ordinary girls her age would be allowed to. "Through trials... I suppose? I'm not exactly sure how it works, just that we'll know when it's time." No one had really given her a clear answer on how the return of their abilities worked. Sometimes it was after completing certain tasks, while others just sounded like they were random.
"I haven't been in the city for very long myself, so unfortunately I'm not able to tell you much more than that." She didn't waste any more time and bit into her ice cream.
Ollie? That must have been someone that Gigi already knew. A friend she had made in the city or someone from the world she came from, perhaps? "Allowance. Minors seem to get one, at least. It isn't enough to live a lavished lifestyle, but it should be enough to get by. Finding a job can help with the rest." But if she was asking about money, did that mean she was worried about it?
"...Do you need me to pay you back for the ice cream after all?"
Neither was she.
And she'd rather have bad blood with anyone; she already had a notable rival back in Mitakihara, or so she recalls. After all, Mami didn't like to resort to aggression if unwarranted, and this girl had done nothing to earn her hostility.
Unaware of the nature of different magical girls in the multiverse (it didn't occur her at all, no, no), Mami now wonders if she, too, is merely after Grief Seeds, but the girl seemed willing to dialogue, which was a blessing given how nasty her fellow girls could be. Her posture, though still upright, it's nowhere as tense as it'd normally be, at least at a glance.
‘ Don't worry; I'm not interested in bickering with others. I just arrived this week myself actually, ’ she states. Whoever were those who ran this place, they certainly pulled people indiscriminately. If she thinks too deeply about it, then it's not that different to them, are they? Mami smiles still, but it feels different now. Kind, but scrutinizing at the same time - if such a thing was even possible. ‘ I don't know we've been chosen to be brought here, it's all too strange and suspicious, don't you think? ’
✦ If asked about her reason for fighting, there wouldn't have been an easy answer for Arcana Shadow. She likely would have just lied, claiming that she fought against lies like the other Meitantei Precure did, but she was more willing to spread those lies these days if it meant accomplishing her goals. Even if she had mixed feelings about it and there was still a part of her that wanted to be a detective and a Precure, she had steeled herself for this outcome years ago.
Fortunately, she could sidestep those issues in Spirale so long as Mystery, Mystique, and especially Eclair didn't show up.
"It has all of the makings of a good mystery though, doesn't it? A mysterious group of captors, burdensomely confusing rules and stipulations, and greater questions about our reasons for being here..." Luluka caught herself getting a little too enthusiastic and pulled herself back a bit. She couldn't let that side of herself slip too much when she was trying to repress it.
"...If I was to guess, it has something to do with whatever exists beyond this island. I've found next to no information about it, which is extremely suspicious." She glanced over at the girl again. They'd spoken long enough to warrant an introduction. "I'm a Precure, by the way. Cure Arcana Shadow is what I go by. Do magical girls have names like that where you come from?"
"Wow! I didn't even know fish could glow that brightly. Was this out at the beach all the time during summer camp?"
In an odd change of pace from someone forcing the horse girl out and about to enjoy herself Digital went out to check what the festivities were all about. The winter ones managed to be a enjoyable time which surely meant the ones in summer could match it. Especially when this time of the year was usually when she was busy. Either with actual training or something else entirely...
"H-Have you ever seen fish like this before? Seeing them up here feels like it isn't doing it that much justice. Maybe we should actually give that sea turtle ferry a try? I'd be willing to pay for the both of us if you wanted to see too."
As if the person who also was staring into the waves was someone the uma had known for awhile. And not a complete stranger she shot up a conversation with randomly.
@thiefcure | s.c (LUMINESCENT NIGHTS)
✦ Luluka didn't really like to socialize, but she was still a teenager that did enjoy the novelty of events like this one. She'd be lying if she said that there wasn't a part of her that didn't think the fish and algae were pretty, and that she wouldn't mind taking a closer look. She had just been staring at the water, totally oblivious to the fact that this strange girl with horse ears and a tail was talking to her.
But with the girl now staring at her, she had to assume that she was the one being addressed. "Are you just inviting me because we appear to be similarly aged?"
Riding a sea turtle might have been a novel experience, come to think of it. "I suppose... I don't have anything else to do. If you're paying."
@thiefcure liked for a starter !
A magical girl's duty is a thankless job.
And in Spirale, it appears to no longer be needed. It isn't like she remembers the past before Homura Akemi rewrote her and her friends' world (she isn't even aware at this point), but there's lingering feeling, something that is gone, that should be there but isn't, but she cannot recall as well anymore.
She does not expect to find a fellow magical girl, although her attire is a little different to the usual. Mami stands still, back set straight, before smiling at the other. Inviting? It definitely lacks of hostility. She never jumps straight into hostility towards another magical girl unless they give her a reason to.
‘ It seems we're on the same boat ’, she states matter-of-factly. Her smiles does not fade. This isn't a familiar city, but she would be lying if she said she didn't feel some comradery, no matter how different they appeared. ‘ To be honest, it does feel comforting to know I am not the only one here. ’
✦ This chance encounter made Cure Arcana Shadow nervous, even if her expression was just as blank as it usually was. She hadn't bumped into any other Precures in the city, much less another magical girl. All Precures were magical girls, but not all magical girls were Precures. That was her understanding of things, and other magical girls were little more than stories back in the world she knew.
The Precure just glanced at Mami as she spoke. Comfort? For someone who was constantly anxious about being away from her home, Luluka wasn't sure if she could relate. But maybe this wasn't a bad encounter. It wasn't like she had a reason to be hostile towards her, even if she wasn't technically a "hero".
"You're the first person like me that I've come across in the five weeks I've been here." The part of her deep down that still considered herself to be a detective was curious about a number of things, like what did other magical girls fight against? It likely wasn't the same thing. "...Well, if you find my presence comforting, I'm not about to deny you that comfort. I am not your enemy."
She wasn't anyone's enemy in the city really, and she wouldn't be unless a certain girl from her world arrived.
her phone has a lot less money in it than she's used to, but that's something to worry about later. giselle turns towards the girl and flashes a grin, not wanting her to fret again.
"that's so cute! i'm Giselle, but Gigi's fine too."
"does everyone call you Lulu?"
it makes sense, right? anything longer than three syllables was easier to say in shortened form.
"and oh my gosh, don't worry about it! my baba* gives me a huuuuge allowance every month. though, um, i guess i haven't figured out how wire transfers work here yet..."
*爸爸 dad
✦ "Literally no one calls me "Lulu", actually." The girl's retort was prompt and short. Not even Mashutan called her that. I'd she wasn't on the opposing side of the other Precures though, she could imagine one of those two younger ones trying to slip that in. Either way, Luluka wasn't all that hung up on it. "If you want to, I don't mind. Gigi." It was more like she didn't care, but she was tiptoeing around sounding too rude.
She didn't really allow herself to get close to anyone anymore, not since she'd started walking among the shadows, so it was better to just tow the line.
Ah, so she was well off. That made sense. "If you mean a wire transfer from your home world, it doesn't really work like that. Through my investigation of the city, I learned that a percentage of our income back home is given to us in the city, and the more effort we put in, the more we get back." It wouldn't have taken a detective or a thief to figure that out. All she did was ask around.
"Enveloping All in Mystery and Secrets, Cure Arcana Shadow!"
"Any mystery that casts a shadow over someone's smile is a mystery that we will absolutely solve!"
giselle's spoon stops at her lips, shocked. it doesn't help that the other girl looks so calm about it all—isn't this like, a super big mistake?
"what?"
"wait—you're kidding, right? that'd be so unprofessional, ahhhh—"
she jumps to her feet the next second, eyes blazing despite the growing flush on her cheeks.
"hold on and don't do anything. i'll go fix this."
this part of the cafe is located in a covered area outdoors, the better to see the sea. giselle straightens herself up before marching straight inside, the clip-clop of her heels echoing against the floors.
"excuse me. excuse me? yes, could i have a moment of your time—"
✦ "Uh..." Luluka had raised a hand to stop the girl from doing anything needless, but her arm was left hanging there because she'd already moved to the counter to handle it. It wasn't really a big deal. She loved ice cream, sure, but it wasn't that expensive and she was making ends meat the best that she could for a sixteen-year-old in a place like Spirale.
She seemed to negotiate it just fine though, and before long the same server that had given her order to someone else flagged her down to receive what had been accidentally taken from her. "Om." She didn't hesitate to take a bite.
The girl used a free hand to tug on the other girl's sleeve, who seemed to still be paying. "I said you didn't need to, but thank you." She wasn't as extroverted as this stranger, but she'd still done her a favour worthy of thanks. "My name is Luluka. What's yours?" She was a curious one. Luluka couldn't really get a read on her.
miss ice cream
@thiefcure
she's really just at the seaside archimedes café for sightseeing reasons, but soon enough a waiter comes by her table with a surprise.
"miss, please enjoy the ice cream."
"huh? oh, thanks?"
"of course. please let us know if you need anything else."
as the waiter walks off, giselle stares at the impressive bowl of different-colored scoops before marveling to herself. i guess pretty privilege is actually a thing!
"the people here are so nice," (nom, nom.) i guess things really are different in a world without monsters.
a few minutes later, another girl appears and sits down at a different table. idly, giselle notices they're wearing the same color dress. then she catches the other's eye and waves hello.
"hiiiii~"
"have you tried the ice cream here? apparently they're giving out free samples, hehe!"
✦ Luluka held an aversion towards unnecessary conflict. That felt like a contradictory attitude for a turncoat Precure to have, but she'd only switched sides out of necessity and not because she had necessarily wanted to. She also wasn't very expressive, so the most reaction she gave towards the sight of a stranger eating her order was an increased amount of blinking.
The cause of the mix-up was obvious. The one handing out the order was not the staff member that had taken it, so he'd probably just looked for a "teenaged girl", and they were the only two that fit the bill in the store at the time.
"You're actually "trying" my order right now... but it's fine. Someone just made an honest mistake." Kurea wouldn't have made that mistake with her order. But she didn't want to complain to the staff and make anyone feel better. "I'll just reorder it..." As always, it was difficult to tell how Luluka felt and that was by design.
@fairhelios ✦ infinity garden
✦ The garden apparently responded to what your "ideal" garden might look like, so Luluka wasn't surprised to see her surroundings fill themselves with white lilies. There was a time once when this was her ideal, back before her most important thing had been taken from her. But now they only served as a sour reminder of what she had lost... and what she was trying to conceal.
Focusing on these feelings, those lilies were suddenly dyed black. She just hadn't realize there had been someone in the garden with her.
"Don't you think the dark ones suit me better as I am now?" She asked him cryptically, before shaking her head. "Never mind. Feel free to paint over these flowers with whatever inspires you."
