1000 paper cranes hanging at the pier in memory of Nathaniel Phillips. Rest in paradise buddy.
My hard work payed off. It looks good in the light of day. I love you Nathan.
Operation Crane: I folded 1000 paper cranes in celebration of what would be Nathan's 18th birthday. He and I were supposed to go to college together, to travel the world side by side and go to japan after school was all over. I couldn't just let his 18th birthday go uncelebrated. There's an old Japanese tradition that if you fold 1000 cranes you get a wish, so I folded 1000 cranes so I could wish him a happy birthday :) Thank god my friend Shae came along to help set them up. She really saved my butt. Thanks to her and my mom's support I was able to accomplish this feet and make Nate the best birthday surprise he's ever gotten. Love you buddy! R.I.P. Nathaniel (May 1996 - December 2013).
Went on another geocaching adventure today (or several adventures, rather) and I've determined geocaching is a pretty good way to spend time with family. My brother had a blast.
And adventure is what life is all about
Forest adventures.
I am so sorry about Nate. I hope my photos from my travels are inspiring to you. Thank you.
Thank you for the message and kind words. Absolutely, your adventures will inspire me to seek out my own, and I'm sure they inspire many others as well. I look forward to seeing all the cool stuff you'll post on your blog, and seeing all the amazing adventures to be had by you. Cheers, pal.
Nate loved turtles, and I don’t mean he really liked turtles, I mean he LOVED them! They weren’t just his favorite animal, they were one of his favorite things in general. His bedroom always freaked me out a little because he had like a thousand stuffed turtles plushies all over the place…
For Christmas last year I got him another turtle plushy to add to his collection, but I never got a chance to give it to him due to his passing. I still gave it to his father, but it felt wrong. The fact that I never got to give him that dumb stuffed animal still haunts me a little.
I never used to love turtles as much as I do now. They were adorable in my eyes, yes, but they never used to hold this kind of significance. They’re valuable now. They’re a piece of Nate that is still here on earth for me to love and hold close. Whenever I see turtles I think of him, and for a moment, everything is alright…
I feel like I want to draw a bunch of these and just tape them on stuff whenever I go on adventures.
^This one is in the library at the college I go to. Nate passed away in high school and never got to go to Cabrillo, the college both him and I planned to attend. So I guess that means I adventured here for him. I’m hopefully going to adventure more than just the library in the future though…
Tell me something you don't normally tell people
I used to watch the show Glee religiously. Seasons 1 and 2 were sort of my secret shame haha. I don’t think I’ve ever really told anyone that but my dad, (and he made fun of me for it for like a whole 3 months). I’m also really into musicals and broadway plays. My favorite being Anything Goes.
There's beauty in everything. You just have to look for it.
My adventure mobile! (because I'm too broke to buy a car).
Beach days :)
"Sometimes, the best way to have an adventure is to leave your house and just go somewhere without a plan." - Nate Phillips
I followed Nate’s advice today and went to the beach. I found a random trail that went through I forest and eventually lead to abandoned railroad tracks. Found and saw a lot of cool stuff today. I’ll have to follow Nate’s advice more often.
Went geocaching again today. This one was hanging in a tree...
Today I had my first geocache adventure. A geocache is where people hide a container (ranging from big to small) and you have to find it using gps navigation, and when you find it you sign your name on the paper provided. The name that I chose is "The Bear". I found this geocache stuck to the bottom of a bench via magnet. Took me forever to find. Geocaching is quite fun actually. I think it is quickly going to become one of my new favorite pastimes :)
