“Not fighting what we hate; saving what we love.”
Okay, I have had time. Time to cry, and time to meditate on this quote since I saw TROS a few weeks ago, and here are some of my thoughts:
In ROTS, Anakin believes that the only way to save the one he loves is to yield to the dark side. He is desperate to save Padmé and seeks out the council of Palpatine in the process. Palpatine then manipulates Anakin with the tale of Darth PIagueis the Wise, telling Anakin that this power cannot be learned from a Jedi.
When Anakin is pledging himself to Darth Sidious, he says that he will do whatever he asks so long as Sidious helps him save Padmé’s life, stating that he can’t live without her. However, cheating death is a power that only one has achieved (up until TROS). Hold on to that for later.
Here comes the Greek tragedy:
Padmé says that all she wants is Anakin’s love. Anakin tells her that “love can’t save you Padmé. Only my new powers can do that.” To that she replies “At what cost?”
At what cost indeed.
Anakin’s anger, Ankin’s hatred, Anakin’s lust for power ended in tragedy. It ended in death.
He could not save what he loved, and I think this contrasts poetically with the ending of TROS.
Enter Ben and Rey.

I completely forgot that I wrote this.
