Hello welcome this is another this is gimmick kind of blog.

This bkog focuses on experiences of those with IDDs aka intellectual disabilities / intellectual development disorders.

Anti-IDD is a form of ableism & bigotry against those with IDDs.

This blog is primarily handled by Mod Kirby, a plural with borderline intellectual disability. Whenever referring to Kirby, please use it/its and masculine terms.

In our inbox, you can send in experiences of experiencing or encountering Anti-IDD Ableism or maybe, on more positive notes, solidarity with IDDs.

You can as well tag/@ us whenever there are posts actively being Anti-IDD or discusses Anti-IDD things.

This blog is inspired by @this-is-ableism, @this-is-pluralphobia, & @this-is-transandrophobia! thank you for inspiring Mod Kirby to leading to the creation of this blog.

We know! But they were either multiple people or/and multiple accounts, as we did blocked. They luckily haven't came back once we reopened!

Something I actually really hate is when people use “room temperature IQ” as an insult. Especially in the case of someone being reactionary and conservative (how it’s used by leftists). The conservative use of it is not much better because on that side of the aisle the phrase is used to imply that you have a low IQ for supporting the rights of your fellow man, but I digress.

The phrase is always used in a way to say that arguing with someone whose intelligence you perceive as low is a waste of time, or to imply that only “stupid” people are reactionary. And that’s just plain ableist and nasty.

I’ve had so many more productive and civil conversations about serious world issues with people who quite literally have the room temperature IQ implied by that insult than people who have average or self-proclaimed high IQs (which in most cases, no your IQ is not actually high. You Dunning-Kruger’d yourself). In conversations about serious world issues with people who have average IQs (like myself) they have actually been far quicker to be dismissive and reactionary than when I’m taking about those same issues with my lower IQ friends.

And I’m not saying that either side of things is better or worse. I’m simply saying that using “room temperature IQ” as an insult is incredibly fucking ableist. I’m also saying that in my personal experience with people who actually have low IQs that it doesn’t take a average/high IQ to have a civil conversation or to understand that people in this world are suffering. My most left leaning friends are intellectually disabled. Pretty significantly so at that. Equating high IQs to good morals is just as harmful as equating high empathy to good morals. You don’t need either of those things to be a good person and using “room temperature IQ” as an insult to those you don’t agree with implies just that.

Tagging @monarch-my-love and @sesamecrackers as they are both intellectually disabled, but any other ID folks that see this and are able to give their input to this please do! I really want to hear thoughts on this, and I hope I worded everything well on this issue.

What you discuss and speak about is Anti-IDD!

A lot of insults often do lead back to intellectual disability, such as the r slur, 'stupid', and what you mention. Especially whenever they imply those with IDDs such as myself aren't worth others time.

Your point about morals is also good. Having an intellectual disability is morally neutral like many things, having it doesn't make you either good or bad. It's morally neutral and adds more to a person. Same thing with those who are intellectually abled, they are morally neutral! Neither good or bad. Neither of those should face ideas that one is morally worse or better than the other.

I do not like when activism for intellectual disability is , “ they are smart too . “ yes , it is important that people see that we are capable of learning , but being smart is not the most important thing . people deserve respect no matter their iq level or their capacity to learn . I always feel sad / mad when I see activism that implies people with id need to understand to be respected .

People who imply we need to be 'smart' in order to be respected as people with IDs is simply Anti-IDD. Activism needs to include all of us. Not just some.

So this is only idd-adjacent but I'm not sure who else to ask. I've heard that someone can't be middle support needs sometimes and low support needs other times. However on good days without chronic pain or overstimulation or brain fog, I fit all the low support needs criteria, but on the days where I do get migraines and verbal shutdowns and have trouble with tasks, I fit the middle support needs criteria. The bad days are less than the good days but still come frequently. I'm just not sure what that would qualify as, and I wanted to see if you knew anything about it.

Support needs can vary and change over time. Not everything is always static and the same.

Plus, there are in between ranges! Where someone inbetween low and middle support needs, and may frequently change between the two. I myself is middle to high support needs.

I say use what helps you communicate your experiences. If using both labels help you, use them!

I’m not intellectually disabled, but I was in special ed, so I witnessed a lot of anti-IDD ableism, and experienced some of it myself - though, again, not intellectually disabled.

It was disgusting. so much abuse went ignored. The special ed “classroom” was just a small, unused classroom they shoved us in when we weren’t being “palatable” - which for a lot of children was all the time. There was so much hitting and talking down to. And none of us were given a chance to learn. Our “education” was the teacher putting on YouTube videos while she sat in the corner reading. We weren’t given a chance.

We all tried to advocate for ourselves. We tried to tell everyone what was happening. But who would listen to a bunch of special ed students?

This is Anti-IDD!

Ableism against IDD can as well affect those even without IDDs. Especially if it's a case that presents similarly to IDD, but isn't one.

Special Education in schools are often just made in mind of its students, but rather their more abled peers. I know the experience a lot myself, and I'm sorry that you and your classmates had to experience that. Y'all deserve a chance for education as well.

This blog allows inboxing and tagging on posts of the intellectual disability experiences! Where you can share positive, negative, solidarity, and more!

Not everything has to be related to IDDs, for example it can just be art pieces and creative works made by those within the IDD community! Showing that, we are people of variety.

Since @/this-is-anti-idd focuses on the ableism our folk experience, I thought why not have more positivity? Such as how we do with the @/your-fave-has-idd blog!

Hi isent an ask about bid and I wanted to say I'm not self dx I'm just venting because I feel like I can't even talk to a doctor or my mom about it without them taking more control of my life 😕

I just got this after answering, but i believe my 1st post still works.

Waiting whenever you're in a safer environment may be good, though do be careful!
