Getting to San Andres inn to have lunch,you can stay here or just come to the restaurant to try some traditional food,a place surrounded by nature, when i arrived they gave me a courtesy non alcoholic cocktail made with natural products,it was pretty good.

Once you arrive in Ibarra city,there is a neighborhood called Caranqui where you can have the traditional pan de leche (milky bread) and try some ice cream made by the people here along with the bread,it can go alone or with a sweet blackberry sauce which is almost like jam to have a sandwich as in the picture or just the bread alone if you prefer.

Bizcochos con queso de hoja: These are biscuits with leaf cheese,that’s how it is called this kind of cheese made in Ecuador,the place where this is made is called Cayambe, some traditional food that can be a snack or have it in breakfast,it can go accompanied with dulce de leche (milky caramel).

Ibarra is located 2 hours away from Quito (capital of Ecuador) by car; a city where you can find some natural places to visit like yahuarcocha, la loma de guayabillas and inns to stay the night there and also try some traditional dishes from the region.

Higos con Queso (Figs and cheese): This is a traditional Ecuadorian dessert, typically served after eating Fanesca,before eastern; although it’s easy to find this dessert in places where they sell traditional food; a mix of salty and sweet is one of the characteristics of some Ecuadorian food.

Fanesca: Traditional typical dish served the week before Eastern.It’s cooked in base of milk and cod, it has 12 ingredients in honor of the 12 apostles of the Bible; such as corn,beans,lentils and ecuadorian grains like chochos;this dish goes with small empanadas as you can see in the picture or with fried dumplings,eggs,cheese and fried plantains.

New Year in Ecuador:
We have many traditions,probably more than most countries,among them and the most popular one is to make a scarecrow made out of old newspapers or fill it with some other material that burns fast, the scarecrow represents the old year (2015) and when you burn it we take it as a new start (2016) you can write down the things that you did or went bad the past year and burn it with the scarecrow as well.
Another one of the traditions we have is to make a testament, ‘’el viejo’’ (the old year) leaves something to everyone in the house,this testament is intended to be funny so we start the new year with a good laugh as well.
