This is what I hate about anime. I have so many anime movies from the 80s-90s I just adore, but at some point they started drawing all the women like… this. Not to mention the stupid porn voices. I can’t watch it. They do this to boys sometimes too - I remember being 11 watching Black Butler and not seeing anything wrong with it, but now I look at it and I can’t understand how it was allowed to even be published. really love this tweet in response to people saying lorde is on a "gender expression journey" because she posted photos of herself not wearing makeup. it's basically succinctly framed this issue in a way I feel like we've all thought of but I personally haven't seen articulated quite this way. the way people label some female celebs as potential future trans men isn't just because they think woman = femininity and man = masculinity and gender non-conformity = trans, or because of the homophobia and lesbophobia inherent to gender ideology — though obviously these things are all part of it. it's because women's natural faces and bodies existing in public literally reminds everyone that they're people. and women don't get to be people.
